You should pick exactly the one you have now. There is no speed increase but you ended up this way Good point is that this board is unbreakable. One way to recover is this: http://wiki.espressobin.net/tiki-index.php?page=Boot+ESPRESSObin+from+SATA+drive and second option is via UART which is more complicated.
When you are back, repeat flashing SPI, move jumpers back ...

interesting.. OK then I think I´ll try that on a different board as I have one lying around somewhere, and if it works on that maybe I´ll try reinstalling the "faulty" one. But apart from this I have zero issues with it, so I can live with it.
Thank you for testing!

@Igor feedback so far has been quite positive, let's wait until next week, I am in Mexico on business and so I don't have access to my pc/tinker. I would like to take another shot at sound and Bluetooth before we release new images. @zador.blood.stained's Bluetooth scripts/service for the 8723bs should work, but don't, so I am a little in the dark on what the rockchip wireless subsystem might be doing.

USB/SATA installer with boot from SPI also works.
It's plan to move the board under stable ... but we need some help. With maintaining. Since our board count is huge, it already took days before all boards are tested (at major release), sometimes we skip certain and then Murphy law strikes
Roles are not strictly specified and nothing special is planed. We seek someone, who is up2date with development status, has a spare board for testing and is willing to update "known issues" or add specific tips for this board on the (new when ready) download page. Also, do testing when major updates are planned.

We made this tool with the purpose to make kernel recompilation as easy as possible. In just about every other way you have many potential obstacles to overcome. All those Youtube guides are usually made for Intel world/perfect scenarios where things just work. ARM variety is big.
You need some x86 desktop computer where you recompile the kernel in a virtual machine, transfer two .deb packages to your Tinkerboard via a network or via SD, install them with (dpkg -i package.deb) and reboot Tinkerboot into a new kernel. If you use our tools you have small chances to fail for anything else you need some experiences. It is possible to recompile kernel on your board, but ... you are on your own. Sources are accessible this way:
apt install linux-source-4.14.14-next-rockchip Since you don't want that upgrades overwrite your own made kernel you need to freeze kernel updates (armbian-config) or send your changes upstream and they might be included in the kernel by default.

I don't have information how is the situation with CAN-bus with this kernel/Tinkerboard, so only some theoretical tips: in case you need to add a function, that exists but is not enabled, this would be a good and simple start: https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/
Sometimes enabling a feature is good to go, sometimes you need to add a function with a code/patch. In both cases, you need to recompile the kernel (sometimes module only also work) from sources.

A stock display settings are set to 720p and if you have some extraordinary display, you need to login via serial or network and then use h3disp utility to set correct one, but first ... strictly follow procedures written in Getting started. SD card and power problems are very common and their symptoms can also show this way. Make sure you use Etcher for writing or check what you write. DD doesn't check and SD media is can be crap.
Wait a minute and you should see a login prompt. You need to create a normal username if you want to run a desktop. When you do those things, desktop starts automatically.

Kernel for H3/H5 and A20/A10 has been updated and pushed to the repository. I made 24h severe burn-in testings with three boards: Cubietruck, Orangepi 2E and Orangepi Prime. I did nasty things to them and all are still running.
premo liked a post in a topic by Igor in Kernel update procedure has been changed
Is the trick from previous post not solving one CPU core problem? You only need to alter board name to cubietruck. The same applies to all Allwinner boards.
apt-get install linux-u-boot-cubietruck-next Reboot is mandatory.
jiapei100 liked a post in a topic by Igor in Successfully built .img but failed to boot...
Switching to the supposably better kernel opens a pandora box of problems. If you don't know that, you are probably not capable of fixing them. You can force variables in userspace/lib.config, by adding KERNELBRANCH="branch:v4.15.y". But it is pointless for this particular board family. There are 100+ patches which secures specifics board H3&H5 functions not found in 4.15.y or 4.16.y ... in between and a lot of them will stop working. This means you will certainly fail to build and boot the board. This is how it looks like:
It is enough.
This job is not exactly trivial and it is hard to standardize it. However, users usually add cloned boards with minor adjustments directly to the script - We accept their contributions if done correctly and if they don't break anything.
chwe liked a post in a topic by Igor in How in Armbian Ubuntu Desktop to add a script to startup?
Today, boards are usually selected upon use case. As I said, trying to run on an emulator. x86 apps also work on dual-core Banana Pi with A20 but definitely not video related features.
Stay away from Bananapi M3 ... it has a badly supported kernel and this won't change soon. You need stability first then (good) core(s) count. If Odroid XU4 won't do the job, you have to wait that more recent and more powerful boards get better software support (kernel).
denox liked a post in a topic by Igor in Lime2 mainline kernel with Debian 9 (stretch) becomes unresponsive (forced reboot required)
Since you and other people are reporting similar problems, this is becoming a known issue, but we don't know what is causing this, nor we have a solution, except rolling back with a kernel.
To check what is available:
apt-cache policy linux-image-next-sunxi Install specific version:
apt install linux-image-next-sunxi=VERSION linux-dtb-next-sunxi=VERSION Do the same with u-boot: (check versions first, they might be different than kernel)
apt install linux-u-boot-bananapipro-next=VERSION
In general, help out with this table: https://www.armbian.com/kernel/ and adjust board name appropriately.
Please do report back, how it went.

I'll keep monitoring my machine, without some services running, to see if it crashes again to try and isolate whether or not it is power (or peak) consumption related.
After the next crash I will also roll back the kernel and try again.
Igor liked a post in a topic by bananapinas in Lime2 mainline kernel with Debian 9 (stretch) becomes unresponsive (forced reboot required)
apt-cache policy shows version 5.35 and 5.31 for uboot and image. image 5.32 has no matching uboot. So I'll try 5.35 first and if it occurs again I'll try 5.31.
But so far your help is really appreciated.
I really like the armbian project and will use it on my raspberries and banana pi (without pro) soon also.
