Armbian team have no plan/resources/budget to do this, but if someone sacrifices his time and polish this feature as expected, we will pay with respect and review the work. Every code that is sent our way is liability and that is not something we are accepting open handed. If adding this feature won't represent much burden for maintainers, we will merge it. Making PR from your side is just one part and is small if you are not going to keep it in good shape for another several months / years.

The same goes for half of elderly single board computers that we are keeping alive. Its only in users interest, a little in ours. We only have costs with maintaining, while HW vendors wants from you to buy new stuff ...  We already have severe problems with cost management as you expect we do everything for free, and where we receive absolutely no help from vendors or anyone. This is for us nothing but a waste of time. I hope you do understand this - maintaining is hard work and doesn't pay off in any way. And its a lot more code to maintain then people who will do it. You have to step up.

    Hi

I had bought a NanoPi R4S with the goal of installing IPfire.
Unfortunately that was too complicated for me https://wiki.ipfire.org/hardware/arm/friendlyelec/nanopi-r4s

I had now installed Armbian and NextCloud and I am very satisfied. In about 10 hours I had "my own cloud". Therefore a very warm and big thank you to the Armbian developers.
Only thanks to the Armbian, I can look over the Raspberry horizon.

I wish you a very pleasant week
    Best regards

No Linux is having full control over its component made by thousands of people. This particular problem was caused by this https://github.com/cli/cli/issues/6175 where you can find instructions how to fix a problem you have. I already fixed the key, so future releases will have this fixed https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/4163

That would not be an armbian image then if it didn't come from official Armbian sources.  So this isn't really the place to discuss non-armbian builds.

@ssamuelm @Fab85100 @yo8aiv : since you all faced this issue, to find out more about it before resorting to more specific operations, please can you make the above test, then try to boot this image to see if USB is working with it ? :  https://fi.mirror.armbian.de/archive/orangepiplus/archive/Armbian_22.08.1_Orangepiplus_jammy_current_5.15.63.img.xz or other flavor of the same exact 22.08.1 version. It is an older release for the Plus/Plus2 models with the right bootloader (because it looks like later versions  either won't start or have USB not working as well..), reported to have USB working, so you could eventually overwrite its bootloader to a more recent image, or just upgrade it like @Choryu Park explained here : https://forum.armbian.com/topic/24431-why-recent-images-for-orange-pi-plus-plus-2-does-not-boot/?do=findComment&comment=159236

I personally don't have any of those boards at hand, but I studied their schematics and the different available images bootloaders/device trees for them. Now if you are ready to make more tests and report the results here (clearly specifying the exact image files used) it could also help to narrow down this USB bug in order to fix it in future releases.

We have two major changes at PR stage that needs to be merged and fully tested. Alongside with fixes on HW side. Then whole system stabilisation has to begun ... How you can help?

Providing status of any board labelled as supported, that is not covered with our automated testings, helps:
    https://github.com/armbian/os#latest-smoke-tests-results
This testing is primitive, so manual checking also helps.

If there is a bug, open a ticket:
    https://www.armbian.com/participate/
If you can, fix it, sent a PR. Few people that contribute to Armbian anyway can't fix all bugs found in open source software.

Maturity of user-land packages. At one point in time Ubuntu LTS is better then Debian stable and vice versa. I think this principle is now not working as intended (randomly could be O.K.) as we recently changed how download lists are generated. Here you can observe how this is assembled. There is some additional info in wiki.

Keep in mind that packages lists are more or less the same and (hopefully) all Canonical suspicious code is cleaned out.

Can't tell from my head. That would require analysis / diff.

Only diff is userspace packages versions. HW interface is identical.

I am afraid that you can't do that just like that and IIRC you the first person coming up with such idea. Upgrades within Debian or Ubuntu are already complicated enough and prone on breaking. Also this problem exceeds Armbian as user-land packages are stock Debian / Ubuntu.

This is an attempt to send you a message. It tells that "Debian" or "Ubuntu" fairly tales and stereotypes, that are attached to those keywords, means nothing in this close-to embedded Linux world. Check FAQ for more https://docs.armbian.com/#what-is-armbian

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

I have many years of macos / darwin & macports experience - but recently have migrated servers to openbsd and armbian / ubuntu. I haven't actually installed linux since MKLinux and Yellow Dog Linux on PowerPC… so it has been a while now. Since I wasn't using it, I wasn't really following linux development and evolution.

Sounds like since I'm headless and only using the CLI, it doesn't matter if I have Armbian 23.8 Bookworm Minimal CLI or Armbian 23.8 Jammy Minimal CLI. I guess in this case - since Jammy is smaller, so much the better. And since I already have Jammy installed, there is no reason to migrate to Bookworm.

Thanks again to you and team Armbian. I am very glad to have found you and your great software.

    - **Title:**Penguin Planets in Armbian Universe
    - **Description:**I wrote a little program to create this image. The background, the penguins and the icons can be customized by making small changes to this program. A wall paper generator web page could be made available for this purpose as well.  To encourage vendor support for this project, the penguins (icon, penguin size and location) can be customized per vendor needs. Linux penguins as planets is my original idea (I did not find or copy anything from google). Since the image can be easily recomputed, they are not important any more only the idea remains. The background image is found by searching google images for royalty free universe images. Another background image can be substituted easily if need be.

There was a time, 45 years ago when I was carving code for an rca 1802 with nothing but the rca programmers manual and a hex editor in a cosmac super elf, when I would have been in hog heaven at the prospect of such an offer But now I'm 88 and have mechanical things in my heart to keep my diabetic ticker running & keeping me going.  So the info traded would likely be from you to me, which doesn't pay your net bills However, there one law no one can break, TANSTAAFL. And I don't do business with paypal since their delays in approving an ebay purchase 20 years ago cost the owner of the tv station I was at, playing consulting engineer ar the time, about $50,000  in lost revenue, Rig your donation page to take my mastercard and you will see a donation as soon as I discover I can use one of my cards to pay w/o having to move it thru paypal.

In the meantime Igor, take care and stay well.

We set maintainership conditions pretty low - he/she doesn't need to fix any low level troubles, keeping a list of them is already a great value or taking such burden away. As I am not paying attention to this hardware (to remain sane) I didn't notice there were no images at all, while we usually provide images for community/no supported targets too.

Images would be up, but one bug prevent them from building correctly - you can build then on your own, but they fail to build in automation.
