I'm at the end of my rope trying to get this to work with 5.1

iwconfig shows the device just fine. After 2 days, I thought it was the cheap dongle, so I went and purchased the recommended one and still it doesn't work

I've tried blacklisting the driver, which causes nothing to work (as expected). I've tried everything in Post #22 and still nothing.

Some additional information:
started over with a fresh image, enabled 8192cu in modules.conf (disabled 8189es) and made no other changes to any files. lsmod shows 8192cu as the only driver loaded. Insert TRENDnet device and here is the dmesg output
