  2. Thanks a lot for your ample answers. I must tell you what it the "secret" of my project. The task is seemingly simple - streaming video from the camera, but with "real time" control of "sureness" of that video. I mean to deliver a preview from the camera to the end point, shifted in the time as low as possible (<1 sec), with showing that time shift value on-line, and showing other parameters of streamed video, like dropped frames count etc. So, I don't want to use streaming applications like gstreamer, v4l2, motion, etc. because of: 1. (With all due respect to OpenSource) not supported, rarely updated, different behaviour on different devices (sometimes it is a hard way to force application to work at all) 2. Difficult to achieve control of stream (as I need) - they use to use just web browser to see the movie at the endpoint So, then, the idea is to make as many pictures as possible and send it immediately to the endpoint, together with some metadata which will give the option to that endpoint to check how the "stream" goes. I'm a little surprised because I did not know that dedicated camera module (I will use GC2035 because they sell it with OrangePi Lite) does not compress photos. I must say that 25-30 pictures per second would be great for me (the minimum is 10-15), but if I add compressing time (YUV to jpeg) there will be a little more delay added. I am also not sure if cheap usb webcams, like webcam will give a jpeg pictures, maybe I would need something like Logitech C270 what multiplies costs : -( I know, that proper video streaming gives a possibility to make better compressing of moving pictures, but because of that two points I described, I am looking for other solution. The OrangePi Lite + GC2035 (or webcam) seems to be the cheapest set (NanoPi has more expensive CAM module). Other sets are much more expensive (RPi), or too weak (Omega2), or difficult to buy here (C.H.I.P.) Please, let me ask one more time - it is possible to take pictures directly to RAM, not to flash memory - to save time, because pictures will be transmitted immediately (no need to store them).
  3. Hello, I am going to make a project using OrangePi (most likely OrangePi Lite, but could be other model) with a camera. So, there is my supplication, for someone to make a test and check HOW MANY pictures (let's say 640x480) can the camera take PER ONE SECOND (working continuously, in a loop)? I am interested in both types of cameras: a USB webcam and OrangePi CAM module. And it's about taking pictures, not a movie. By the way - it is possible to take pictures into RAM? I mean not writing it to SD card. It would improve performance :-) Thanks to everyone in advance!

  6. Hello, My project for Orange Pi Lite will be used in a car. To make the installation easy for everyone I would like to supply it from car lighter socket. Of course, this solution is not perfect (frequent insert/pull the plug by the user, current decays etc.). I mean problems with switching off without shutdown. I also mean how uSD will stand it. For now, I thing to attach an 18650 cell with booster/charger which will work as a "buffer" to keep current when the lighter socket is off. But I am afraid that it can keep power only for 1-2 hour. Is there a possibility to check the power level of the connected cell and shut down the system when the power is low? Probably a connection will be needed for that booster to send signal to OPiLite? Or maybe there is any other solution? My second question is about to put OPiLite to use less power when it has nothing to do? I mean automatically or forced by a script (first to go low when there is nothing to do and then to go high, when job should be done).

  9. Yes, please enrich this SBC :-) I can see two advantages. First, that dedicated camera for this Orange is about half price than camera dedicated for Nano Pi Neo, so making project with this SBC and camera will be more advantageous. Second - EMMC, what is - if I correctly understand all I have red - more durable than uSD. For example in my project there is relatively frequent switching on and off (a car installation - works only when car goes) and I'm afraid how long it will work before uSD die or Linux break up... a battery connection would be useful (a wish only). And more of it - it is cheaper than NanoPi Neo Air (don't know how does it translate into performance).
  10. Hello, Sorry if my question is inopportune - would be possible to change all that appropriate parameters on-line, when system is working? I mean my Orange Pi is working on very low gears, waiting for a signal (from smartphone via WiFi or BT). When the signal comes, Orange Pi switch gear up and performs important tasks (that need more power). Then a signal again and lower gear :-) Could be very good way to make boards smarter :-)
  11. By the way - talking about dongles and built-in's - in the case of Bluetooth function - it does not have such a number of obstacles to use dongles instead of built-in? I mean buying Orange Pi Lite + BT dongle instead of NanoPI Neo Air?

  14. Hello, I have red, that WiFi card built-in Orange Pi Lite (RTL8189FTV) could make troubles (drivers), so I wonder - maybe will be better to buy Orange Pi One and WiFi dongle (a well tested one, with non-problem chipset) Which WiFi dongle would you recommend for Orange Pi One?
