  1. Maybe this is not strictly related to Orange Pi PC but a few weeks ago I had problems with booting my device - mainly OpenELEC and I had to debug it somehow using serial port and the terminal. Unfortunately my PC is rather far from the place where I keep OPiPC. So I was forced to prepare separate device - cheap STM32 MCU based terminal display with 2.2" LCD screen directly supplied from Orange Pi PC 3.3V. It can be used also with other devices which allow serial console debugging. Watch below videos for more details and the code: Maybe someone finds it useful.
  2. I will have to test my SD cards I currently use - mostly class 10 but probably nothing more. What 4k speed do you think is acceptable for such medium? Are schematics already available for this board (and other new)?
  3. I don't know it was mentioned before but Orange Pi PC Plus with WiFi and 8GB eMMC built-in is already available in Aliexpress store http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Orange-Pi-PC-Plus-ubuntu-linux-and-android-mini-PC-Beyond-Raspberry-Pi-2/1553371_32668618847.html price USB 19.99
  4. Why don't you consider using Intel machine for such task. Especially with Intel Quick Sync technology. I suppose such 2h video would be encoded in 15 minutes or maybe less depending on CPU/GPU. Even simple Baytrail Atoms support this technology,
  5. I can confirm that Miracast works perfectly. At least tested with cheap Android 4.4 phone. So instead of buying primitive Miracast dongle for $12-$20 it is much better to spend money for Orange Pi PC (probably should work also with cheaper Orange Pi One - I will test it later) and cheap WiFi dongle + Android on SD.
  6. I suppose RTL8188 is cheap and not so good. But I purchased it just for testing and fun.First try was horrible - WiFi was slow as hell. But after I disassembled the case it improved a lot. I cannot expect anything good for $1.60. Look at SMD quality, WiFi chip is dirty, etc. Good thing is the support in different OSes. Currently I tested Zidoo Android, OpenELEC and Orange Raspbian - drivers are there and work ok. I wonder if I will be able to obtain Miracast functionality in Androids as Realtek chip seems to be WiFi Direct compatible. I will test it more tomorrow.
  7. I have just received cheap WiFi dongle (paid $1.6 in Aliexpress). I don't know yet if I will solder it directly to Orange Pi One extra USB exposed solder points. Currently I want to share how to disassemble this dongle without damaging anything. Watch my short tutorial video: Using this module without the case significantly improves WiFi signal quality and range. Finally it would be possible to solder external antenna socket. Some photos:
  8. Or even cheaper - buy cheap 5V/2A power supply with 2.5/0.7mm connector (or 5.5 - they are also cheap). It costed me $1 shipped from China. I've just cut the connector and soldered so called "dupont" connectors to attached directly to pin 4 and 6. Works perfectly.
  9. In my humble opinion it is not worth to save $5 and it's better to buy full OPiPC for $18.69. However for some simple applications like armbian server/NAS/home automation/etc OPiOne could be good enough. But for multimedia there are serious limitations. Most significant is memory - only 512MB. You can consider using only OpenELEC but still with some limitations. For example forget about 4k in h265 because OpenELEC uses too much memory and doesn't want to open such videos. Some plugins have memory leak issues (like YT addon). Forget about Androids - those for OrangePi need 1GB for comfortable use. Of course for analog audio you need to solder 2 very tiny wires which is rather difficult because it is very close to SoC and points are very tiny. Same for USB. It's not worth to save $5. Also I don't like CPU power management in OPiOne which makes it hotter than PC. I personally purchased One just for fun. And I love gadgets Maybe I will use it for multimedia, as OpenELEC dongle for one of my TVs. But only when jerney solves problem with HDMI-CEC support - I just want to use same remote for TV and multimedia. I don't need 4K, but YouTube can be problematic because it crashes frequently on One due to lack of memory. I also don't want to wait for Lite which will have same limitations and additionally no ethernet port. WiFi is not huge benefit because I can buy WiFi dongle for $1.7 which is less than $2 price difference between One and Lite. OPiPC is for sure most profitable buy currenly. I will rather wait for 2GB version of PC.
  10. And of course Orange Pi One wasn't included because it could take 1st place in price/benchmark.
  11. I can read current cpu freq and temperature so I'd like to find out CPU voltage at current freq even if it is not properly measured. Just to check it during testing other Linux distros.
  12. Yes, sure. Regarding voltage - how to read it even like RPi tries to deduce it?
  13. On the back side of OPiOne PCB you can find also TVOut signal and MUTE which is used to disable audio amplifier but of course OPiOne has no such on board and even OPiPC had this unit removed.
  14. Same way like above it is easy to expand OPiOne adding missing analog audio, mic and IR receiver. 1 - IR receiver RX line 2,3,4 - MIC1P/MIC1N/MIC-MBIAS 5,6 - LINEOUTR/LINEOUTR Look at Orange Pi PC schematics to find out what extra components should be used to obtain full OPiPC functionality.
  15. How about SoC current voltage? I mean to obtain this value same way as RPi Monitor?
