Banana Pi M1 and custom boot options

So far I was used to the Grub (and lilo) boot manager(s) but the Armbian 5.31 Bananapi Debian jessie next 4.11.5 image does some things differently. I have found the file /boot/armbianEnv.txt but none of the websites I found described what I should do with it. I tried to copy it to /etc but the changes did not take effect. I would like to remove the logo and have verbose boot messages. Could somebody help me to get there, please?

There is no GRUB on ARM boards.

AFAIK it may be possible to load UEFI GRUB bro u-boot, but it would probably need some work to make a working configuration for it.

You can check /boot/boot.cmd to check what it does exactly.
