Igor got a reaction from araczkowski in Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 H3 & H5
    Yes, exactly this way.

H5 is operational but still in development.  Get it if you plan to play with it deeply and join R&D, while go for H3 if you plan just to use it ... and perhaps do minor adjustments. We still wait for those boards to come here, than we need to make few minor adjustment, few tests, create an entry in conf+download page ... it's "just" a question of time.

Igor reacted to TonyMac32 in Asus Tinker won't boot
The power supply that works for the Pi may not be good enough for the Tinker Board, I haven't made any measurement of the power requirements, however I know of a USB cable in my possession that will boot a Pi 3 and not the Tinker Board.  I'm downloading the nightly to double-check, I see some patches , but I don't think those are "live" yet.

[edit]  Ah, I forgot one other small thing:  It resizes the filesystem on first boot.  That can take it a bit, and you won't see HDMI output in the meantime, at least I don't.  I just booted the image gotten from the "nightlies" link on the Tinker Board download page.

Yes. You open a port on your router and forward it to the local IP address of your VPN server. A20 is a bit slow for this job, so rather get some cheapest / smallest H3 board. If you are not an expert, check Softether VPN server, also accessible from our simple install tool.

Igor got a reaction from Alex Kholodkov in Odroid XU4 - Ubuntu Xenial doesn't run on eMMC
This problem is solvable on legacy u-boot + kernel by adding those two lines to boot.ini:
    # To update boot loader on your eMMC, uncomment, reboot into SD card mode with your eMMC attached and comment back when done # run copy_uboot_sd2emmc While on modern u-boot / kernel, this remain broken.

    Hey, thanks for sharing it

Didn't thought people will actually watch it, so when I'm back of my vacations I'll make another videos about the board (got a tripod and I'll try to make something without talking understandable by anyone)

    Have a good day,

OK. I can confirm now that the image with the kernel tkaiser helped to build also works on a Orange Pi Zero 256MB. So yes .... for $6.99 you have your own macipgw running on a Orange Pi Zero to surf the Internet with your Macintosh Plus, Powerbook 100 and other retro Apple computers without network card.

    Hi to All,

I am proud to announce that our effort to embed Olimex' Lime2-eMMC board in Application Controller for Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) systems meets with success to the final phase.
Our product EGPR (Easy Ground Penetrating Radar) is ready for demo and field tests.

Everybody can take a look on our just finished web site.
There is link to the real application from Demo page.

We would like to express our gratitude to Armbian project, its whole team and everybody here in for the great effort and help.

    Best regards

Igor got a reaction from manuti in Winw for Orange Pi (PC+)
I actually tested on Opi PC+ with 4.10.x but it was crashing all the time. I didn't investigate why, while on XU4 it was working. Linux i386 applications were working good while apps under Wine also, but they had some strange refresh. Usable, but still need some work.

I started to talk with Eltech folks to see if something can be done to ensure better support on Allwinner boards.

Putting setenv with working configuration followed with saveenv in the beginning of the boot script really works. It just need two reboots after update.
So, from my point of view... problem solved.
Thanks all for help, especially to Igor.

    Here is my housing!

An here is a special cable to solve the HD power issue:

With this configuration it is possible to supply the HD directly with energy.

Although I do understand the criticism of tkaiser I think it would be a pity for me and perhaps others to drop support. I use it as a simple desktop switch and home server. With Armbian 5.24 it runs stable here. With 5.25 I was unfortunately not able to get the switch switchting till now.

Yeees, finally did it. Sucessfully set resolution to 1024x768-24.
Now I'm going to find more appropriate resolution.
Thank you Igor very much, I almost gave up.

I just (again) wasted two hours to remember that any of those kernels needs a lot of code cleaning and fixing than "just" USB3. When this is done, than it would be possible to start debugging without wasting hours / days.

About year ago I was approached by Allo, when they were trying to design their own board around S500 (Sparky). They were talking about mainlining (wishes) or bringing things at least to kernel 4.4, but I guess they abandon the idea due to whatever reason. There was lots of discussion going on and after my second reminder, that they need to hire and pay for my time, if they want me involved into their activities, I tuned myself out. They didn't listen what I was trying to tell them anyway.

Short regression test with OPI ONE/LITE upgraded to Armbian 5.25 / Legacy 3.4.113 shows WIFI still working like a charm. Within the limits of el cheapo 2.4 GHz networking ( noisy environments ) OPI ONE/LITE have shown reliable stable operation for months.
    Well done, Armbian team !

Mainline works, I'm using it for a project myself (driving a large P2314T touchscreen), just don't expect to play GPU intensive video games on it. Its a $35 board that has eMMC, much better I/O and a decently designed SoC, short of the BeagleBoneBlack there really isn't a much better board to buy in this space with these features when it comes to full, libre support, especially if you are on a budget.

If you want a minimal Debian build with kernel 4.10, I have one kicking around. HDMI is fully working! Alternatively, just wait a few days for the driver updates to land. These volunteers are working as fast as they can, can't blame 'em.

By the way, a friend of mine is working on building Armbian as a service, whereby you can build Armbian images with the packages/scripts you want included from the getgo (for easy mass deployment/initial setup), it may be of use soon.

Yes. Mainline kernel is still in development and come without end user support. Currently there are problems with screen detection / video driver. It used to work fine, but currently it's just broken ... dunno why exactly, but AFAIK @jernej is working on this.  "tomorrow" this will be fixed and some other problem might jump out but we are getting close. For certain scenarios is o.k. for some time.

Even with fixed video, there are other limitations on new kernel - no video or 3D acceleration.

Not necessarily. Most of those bench marking methods are wrong / pointless in first place. This way is more realistic, and as you can see, there is something wrong with USB3 stack ...

All boards that fancy micro USB connector for powering are prone to power related issues. I would secure that part firs. Different cables, PSU, perhaps powering via GPIO.
