Igor got a reaction from willmore in orange pi zero, upgraded kernel permanently broken wifi
Just about any board has better wireless chip than Orange Pi Zero but don't expect router class experiences on any other since you won't find them. Get something with RT5572, RT3572, RT3070, AR9271, ... first two will go up to 300mbps at 5Ghz, while last two up to 150mbps at 2.4. Access point mode of course.

With something like this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/ALFA-Networks-AWUS052NH-2-4-5-GHz-USB-WLAN-Adapter-300-MBit-Ralink-RT3572- you could have (very good) router class experience. Long range and presumably a lot more clients than on those on board el cheapo wifi chips.

I think all Armbian supported boards that have wifi chip can operate in access point mode. The question is a quality/speed/distance and max. client count. All this is fairly limited.

Stretch is possible, but kernel for this board is not quite ready. We are working round the clock to finish this in planned due in 1-2 months.

    Current status:
HDMI DRM driver, CEC, HDMI audio, I2S (requires overlays)
Missing features: DVFS, THS U-boot is most likely broken

I updated u-boot and now even mPCI works, but not the most interesting one Atheros AC WiFi. I tried few others and updated compatibility list on the download page: https://www.armbian.com/espressobin/ There are also quick instructions with links to u-boot download that one can update his Espresso. It's a progress.

Do we have/know where are temperature readings?

You can safely use one of the flash images to update your board to the very latest version now (u-boot 17.10.1, atf1.3-17.10 for the 512MB and 1GB version released a week ago, atf1.3-17.08 for the 2GB version) (flash-instructions are included) (nobody bricked a device with them)

The sources are available on Github and the build process is not complicated - you have explained it earlier in this forum. Official support for the 2GB EspressoBin is also expected soon.

May be I do not understand you correctly - but any further tests using a bootloader on SATA drives to confirm that the images are working do not seem to be necessary.

Once you have updated your board any new u-boot can be chainloaded using tftp to test its functionality - the process works (but not with the preinstalled u-boot / atf 17.02).

Nevertheless, I will see what needs to be done to boot directly from SATA leaving SPI alone.

It's not "just" kernel. We need to go deeper and also provide simple u-boot and ATF update. Currently, it's non-existing and we rely on a stock which is somewhere between alfa and beta. AFAIK certain problems are already solved upstream, but you need to update the board. I haven't got that far yet ... idea was to conduct those tests on SD card, but it's not possible to boot from while it's possible from SATA. Recompiling ATF, U-BOOT, leaving SPI alone and trying to boot from SATA with most recent ATF/U-boot might be a good next step.

Use armbian-config, switch to beta builds and conduct update. Then try to connect within armbian-config. It must work and forget about 3rd party manuals. They might be misleading.

For some strange reason, I can't see logs. I am getting "Over Quota This application is temporarily over its serving quota. Please try again later."

Wifi 100% works on this board, but you must download a correct image. Image for PC is not the same as for PC+ (wifi version).

Alright, for those who build it themselves, the hdmi hotplug script has been added to the build script, nothing for you to do but enjoy being able to unplug your monitor without rebooting your board.

If you ran the latest beta: armbian-config -> software -> install headers

With armbian-config on 5.2 version with desktop, switched to 5.33 nightly and after that also with armbian-config switched to next kernel. Now I got what I wanted - DT overlays and desktop environment + mcp2515 board.

    Cheers!

Afaik it should work. Perhaps unloading is not working as it should. This kernel is from some other times ... removal from /etc/modules and reboot might be needed.

Nobody is working on H3 legacy kernels anymore  Modern kernel will be here soon.

8812au ... and also anything that has Ralink RT5572 or RT3572. Those are not AC but are at least dual band up to 2T2R with good Linux support. I am working on to setup proper testing environment. The current problem is the other side. My router is just 10cm away and I will need to set up another AP. 2.4 band performance is pretty irrelevant in an urban area but our apartment condo has a lot of steel inside walls and it actually works quite well. Except Xradio

I have 13 wireless adaptors in a dedicated USB3.0 hub and two more are on the way. The plan is to make some scripts and update the database compatibility/kernel properties. All this setup is early WIP.

Igor got a reaction from gounthar in Seed our torrents
To secure top download speed around the globe, we need to have as many torrent seeders as possible. Currently we have dedicated seeders in: Estonia, Germany, Pakistan, Slovenia, Argentina, Singapore, USA, ... but we might be slower in China or Japan.

    Prerequisite:

    - Armbian or any Debian or Ubuntu based distribution (check instructions how to run armbian-config on a generic Debian/Ubuntu),
    - 1TB of free space.

    a) Installation with installing Transmission server

login and obtain superuser rights, execute armbian-config, select Software -> Softy, install Transmission server. (use space to confirm and enter to proceed with install)

Leave armbian-config and after a few minutes check your torrent server status with the following command:
transmission-remote -n 'transmission:transmission' -l and you should see some progress:

    Note:
Torrent server installed this way is auto updating - it checks daily for new images, adds new and purge old ones.

b.) Installation to the existing Transmission server

You only need to install a cron job script that your client serve only most recent files.

    Create file:
sudo nano /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent with this content:

Change username(transmission) and password(transmission) if have something else than stock, save and exit, then run:
    sudo chmod +x /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent sudo /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent Optional:

If you use GUI, you can install desktop front end for simple torrent server monitoring.

    apt install transmission-remote-gtk Host: localhost
    Username: transmission
    Password: transmission

    Confirm and click connect.

    How to stop seeding torrents?
Remove cron job: sudo rm /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent
Remove torrents:  transmission-remote -n transmission:transmission -t all --remove-and-delete This command will remove all files on your torrent server! If you seed other stuff do a cherry pick.

You can actually squeeze a NanoPi Duo, RJ45 MagJack (LED,GND pins off), a USB port, and tiny buck converter on a half-size breadboard.

Seems to be working fine with a user built stretch image for the Orange Pi Zero target, at least initially.
Max current @12vDC I saw was under 400mA with sysbench and WiFi running but more tests are needed.

I found out that I can upgrade to 300/50 for no extra money or hardware upgrade and I did it a week ago. Upload is now 5x faster and can be further upgraded but I think there is no need. Daily kernel recompilation is present on the download/repository server until morning - recompilation starts at 00.01. Hopefully, there should be less different kernels to build, so this setup should last. Only server memory is getting low at the moment since we get new sources - I tend to cache them to gain some speed and save SSD. Building utilisation is low at .deb packing and EXTRA packages building as Zador already explained ...

All of them. With Armbian - some 3rd party Linux might not have those screen resolutions. Original Allwinner kernel has only a few of them.

    Good pick.

Exactly. With H3 you have the best chances for success.
