  1. Looks like the 17.04 ubuntu image works on this using p212 dtb just fine. Only thing i noticed is that cpu clocks only to 1.2Ghz (seems like a s905w specific thing). Anyway to up this to 1.5ghz like its with s905x ?
  2. Any chance for Tanix TX3 mini support ? It uses S905W and has 2GB of ram. I tried the latest ubuntu-mate build with gxl_p212_2g_tx3mini.dtb dtb image. It boots fine, but doesn't want to start the desktop manager (it just flickers screens and tries to restart desktop manager a few times). Am i using the right image or is something else at play here ?
  3. Avoid sequential performance, because thats meaningless in the context of single board computers. What you should be focusing is random performance (4k-1 and 4k-32) which normally sux with cheap cards (think 0,01MB/s). Exception to this are samsung evo/evo+ cards, which have very good random 4k performance for SD card. At least that used to be the case, please someone correct me if i'm wrong.
  4. It's a little bit of both. A53 cores are not exactly speed demons and nowadays websites can be very taxing for CPU. Combine that with poor multithreading and some throttling and you get the result. Also, there is no gpu or media acceleration, so all the work goes to cpu. It also doesn't help the fact, that these devices come only with 1-2GB of ram
  5. ive managed to get retroarch running via libreelec. Works like a charm and no compiling needed
  6. Sadly, a working MALI won't help with kodi/xbmc performance, as it's purely a OpenGL ES device and nothing else. For media playback, you need a working CedarX driver, which is a completely separate thing. Luckily it's being worked on in the form of Cedrus project.
  7. Yes, i'm using this image. I'm using Samsung 32GB EVO+ card as a boot drive and has 27GB left on it. Temps are around 50-60C when compiling according to armbianmonitor. I've tried 3rd time now and looking at the armbianmonitor logs, it seem to be freezing at a 30 minute mark but shows values after that with few minutes of delay. So i'm guessing system is not totally frozen, just very very busy doing something. This is what i'm trying to compile https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup I'm using odroid-c2 as a target platform, as it's the closest to S905X. If anyone knows for a ready made retro distro, i'd like to know about it
  8. @balbes150 Any reason why my box is freezing ? I have T95X 1GB and i'm using the latest version (4.11.2017) armbian mate image. I tried compiling retroarch-setup script overnight but the thing froze like two times after an hour or so. I'm using "gxl_p212_1g.dtb" as my dtb image.
  9. Yeah, i figured as much. Well, maybe old entries could be used from previous builds, these seem to work on most boards back then.
  10. im trying to add 1.3GHz operating point to the newest PC2 image using these commands but im getting this error root@orangepipc2:/boot/dtb/allwinner# fdtget /boot/dtb/allwinner/sun50i-h5-orangepi-pc2.dtb /cpus/cpu@0 operating-points Error at 'operating-points': FDT_ERR_NOTFOUND
  11. "Issue" is that there is a lot of ram dedicated to the GPU and there is only ~820MB left for the system. On such a small amount of ram every MB counts. Allwinner devices usually have over 1000MB available to the system and i'm guessing additional ram gets allocated to GPU via CMA. So my question is; does S905X have any sort of CMA or is gpu ram allocation just fixed to a certain amount and thats it ?
  12. is video acceleration working on these builds ? also, any chance for more ram to be available to the system ?
  13. Is there any other way to flash bootloader variables to boot from external media ? On my t95x with custom rom, i don't have the update&backup app to flash aml_autoscript.zip edit: nevermind, fixed it. Just extracted the apk from the original rom.
  14. Any chance frequency tables get bumped to 1.3Ghz, as it was before ? Mine only goes to 1.15G
  15. Can anyone tell me whats the state of Linux on S905X ? I ordered one of those cheap tv boxes and i wonder how linux performs on them. Does media decoding work ? What about opengl es ? Thank you.
  16. An m.2 port would be a better pick for IO. Also, hopefully they make a budget oriented PC3 around this chipset
  17. Does anyone else have cheap little arm laptops in the pipeline ?

Maybe 35MB/s write is just burst for the first few 100MBs (with simulated SLC cache) and when it runs out it drops back to "normal".

Pretty good price for the base model; too bad shipping costs are absurd.
  21. Anything new on this ? If not, anyone still has an image with older kernel, that has this working ? Thank you.
