balbes150 got a reaction from willmore in Armbian for Amlogic S912
Wrapped in a warm hat is one of my TV boxes (Tronsmart Vega S96) .
Run test for a couple of hours. Here is the result at the end of the second hour. Such a conclusion in the console, no change for end hours, so stopped the test.

I have a RP1 2 with HifiBerry Dac+ Pro Running Volumio, so yes, I understand. I also put together an MPD player on a NanoPi AIR with the FriendlyARM DAC, I believe that blog entry is linked on the FriendlyARM site. (Very simple, and used Armbian before I started contributing) My only thought was, looking at the pile of SBC's I have, the RPi is the most expensive one I would ever use that way. Now, others may wholly disagree, which I can completely understand. Also, having better multimedia support on Armbian? A definite win.
I picked up a Khadas VIM, by far the best vendor Android distro I've used so far. No heat sink though out of the box is a concern, no matter how cool the S905X seems to run. (I'm too cheap to buy a Pro)

Maybe someone interested in the direction of Volumio platform Amlogic S9xxx (S905 S905X S912). At the same time, savvy users can tell the direction, to fix the problem with sound through HDMI in this way.

Yes, I have installed the cooling system (heatsink + fan) which at maximum load when compiling to maintain the temperature above 60 Degrees.
I didn't do any special settings. Copied code into the script and ran. For reference, the system itself Armbian installed in eMMC.

Scripts s905_autoscript only work with u-boot. To ensure that work team hdmi.sh - the system must be properly configured and running, it is a system service. Without a full system startup it doesn't work.
Next week I'll try to check the work of BT on Telos.

It is compatible with previous versions of the scripts and has additional functionality (additional scripts can be placed in a special section of "multiboot" in eMMC). New u-boot can be build from latest GIT for Armbian. It can collect yourself from the GIT sources from here.

balbes150 got a reaction from Nofan Tasi in NEW SD cards - only 1 partition
I recently got some new SD cards. When try using them, I found a strange behavior of these SD cards. They allow you to create ONLY one partition on it. When you try to burn the image, the image is written correctly, no error messages. With this SD card, you can activate the multi-boot. But when I try to start the system or to verify the data in the second partition on the SD card, I discover that the partition is created but data is not available (section is blank, no file system). If a single partition (the whole size of the SD card), the data be read and written to the entire size of the SD card. So for all who have problems running from an SD card or Armbian Librelec, I recommend to check the data on the second partition, the Second partition should be mounted well and the data should be easy to read and enroll.

The Arm Trusted Firmware memory issue will not be fixed in the 4.14 LTS kernel, which is a bit curious, it's a pretty significant flaw and renders the Meson-GXL family of boards to be little more than paperweights. I glazed over the bit where it's queued for 4.15. Glad I didn't hold off patching Dev. @balbes150 might be interested in this as well. It's a small patch, so not a terrible tragedy, unless you don't know it exists...

For the server to upgrade the kernel is not required. In the new images the main changes relate to working with desktop.

I have been using my $40 US Amlogic box running Ubuntu 16.04 for quite awhile as my Emby and Tvheadend servers, and it works very well. Here are a couple of my videos showing my X9 (same as the Mini M8S II). These boxes are Soooooo versatile, they run Linux, ArchLinux + kodi, LibreELEC, and of course Android (and a port of the Android TV OS).

Version update TEST kernel 4.13.0_next_20170907. Added support for sound for all models S905X and S912. Pay attention to one feature of the work of sound - on the desktop has to be set 1920x1080 resolution. Not clear to me yet why the sound only works in this screen resolution.
For some recent images to use these additions, you can only download the kernel and dtb files (deb packages are in the directory TEST\deb) to install in the existing system (don't forget to update the file "dtb.img" to a new version).

Thank you for your attention. Yes, I mean 4.13.0.
In images enabled sound via HDMI to s912 (and s905x). Work sound tested on a Tronsmart Vega S96 (s912). Sound works through HDMI on test files from the image. Once again - you need to have 1920x1080 resolution (you can go into desktop settings in the tools menu and select directly in the working system needs a permit).

balbes150 reacted to tkaiser in ODROID HC1 / HC2
At least not for HC1 use cases. Usually those older 'vendor' kernels are the only ones with support for advanced graphics stuff (HW accelerated video being the best example) but this shouldn't matter on a headless device. If I remember correctly with the Exynos 5422 we're dealing here it's also possible to make use of this stuff with mainline or the 4.9LTS kernel we use (I read about HW accelerated transcoding on XU4 with emby some weeks ago). Anyway: the most important feature of HC1 is fast storage access which means that 'USB Attached SCSI' (UAS) is a must (twice the performance with SSDs, not that huge gains with HDDs) so forget about the old kernel for this use case anyway since UAS started to work on Exynos 5422 IIRC with kernel 4.8.
Sure. Ambient temperature is 22°C. Below 'armbianmonitor -m' output using the SoC's internal thermal sensor:
it starts with the HC1 being idle 5 minutes after booting. The heatsink is still cold and therefore SoC temperature in idle is just ~15"C above ambient. After some time +20"C above ambient are more realistic then I fired up a 'NAS test' LanTest with connected SSD, that's already 'worst case' wrt NAS workloads. Temperature gets up to 58"C but after benchmark finished decreases rather quick then I fired up 'minerd --benchmark' (cpuminer 2.4.5 making heavy use of NEON instructions), the Exynos immediately throttles down to 1.8 GHz, after some time it's then 1.5GHz/1.3GHz with SoC temp close to 90°C and when the benchmark stopped it takes some time for temperatures to lower since now the giant heatsink dissipates heat back into the SoC. 13:04:17: 600/ 600MHz 0.27 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 35.0°C 13:04:22: 600/ 600MHz 0.25 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 38.0°C Time big.LITTLE load %cpu %sys %usr %nice %io %irq CPU 13:04:27: 2000/ 600MHz 0.23 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 40.0°C 13:04:32: 2000/ 600MHz 0.45 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 44.0°C 13:04:37: 2000/ 600MHz 0.49 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 47.0°C 13:04:42: 2000/ 600MHz 0.45 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 50.0°C 13:04:47: 2000/ 600MHz 0.50 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 51.0°C 13:04:52: 2000/ 600MHz 0.54 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 53.0°C 13:04:58: 2000/ 600MHz 0.58 6% 1% 4% 0% 0% 0% 53.0°C ... 13:08:47: 2000/ 600MHz 0.80 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 55.0°C 13:08:52: 2000/ 600MHz 0.90 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 57.0°C 13:08:57: 2000/ 600MHz 0.91 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 58.0°C 13:09:02: 2000/ 600MHz 0.83 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 49.0°C 13:09:08: 2000/ 600MHz 0.77 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 48.0°C 13:09:13: 2000/ 600MHz 0.70 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 48.0°C 13:09:18: 600/ 600MHz 0.65 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 44.0°C 13:09:23: 600/ 600MHz 0.68 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 41.0°C 13:09:28: 600/ 600MHz 0.62 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 40.0°C ... 13:12:02: 600/ 600MHz 0.60 6% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 42.0°C 13:12:07: 1800/1400MHz 1.20 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 77.0°C 13:12:12: 1700/1400MHz 1.74 7% 2% 3% 0% 0% 1% 79.0°C 13:12:18: 1700/1400MHz 2.24 8% 2% 4% 0% 0% 1% 80.0°C 13:12:23: 1700/1400MHz 2.70 8% 2% 4% 0% 0% 1% 81.0°C 13:12:29: 1600/1400MHz 3.21 9% 2% 5% 0% 0% 1% 81.0°C ... 13:22:40: 1500/1300MHz 9.24 42% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 87.0°C 13:22:45: 1500/1300MHz 9.38 42% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 84.0°C 13:22:51: 1500/1300MHz 9.35 42% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 76.0°C 13:22:56: 2000/ 600MHz 8.68 42% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 70.0°C 13:23:01: 2000/1400MHz 8.06 42% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 69.0°C 13:23:06: 2000/ 600MHz 7.50 42% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 66.0°C 13:23:11: 600/ 600MHz 7.06 42% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 58.0°C 13:23:16: 600/ 600MHz 6.49 41% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 53.0°C 13:23:21: 600/ 600MHz 5.97 41% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 52.0°C 13:23:26: 600/ 600MHz 5.49 41% 1% 39% 0% 0% 0% 53.0°C 13:23:32: 600/ 600MHz 5.05 41% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 50.0°C Time big.LITTLE load %cpu %sys %usr %nice %io %irq CPU 13:23:37: 600/ 600MHz 4.65 41% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 51.0°C 13:23:42: 600/ 600MHz 4.28 41% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 49.0°C 13:23:47: 600/ 600MHz 3.93 41% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 49.0°C 13:23:52: 600/ 600MHz 3.62 41% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 49.0°C 13:23:57: 600/ 600MHz 3.49 40% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 50.0°C 13:24:02: 600/ 600MHz 2.95 40% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 51.0°C 13:24:08: 600/ 600MHz 2.87 40% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 50.0°C 13:24:13: 600/ 600MHz 2.64 40% 1% 38% 0% 0% 0% 49.0°C 13:24:18: 600/ 600MHz 2.43 40% 1% 37% 0% 0% 0% 48.0°C 13:24:23: 600/ 600MHz 2.40 40% 1% 37% 0% 0% 0% 48.0°C 13:24:28: 600/ 600MHz 2.21 40% 1% 37% 0% 0% 0% 48.0°C 13:24:33: 600/ 600MHz 2.03 40% 1% 37% 0% 0% 0% 47.0°C 13:24:38: 600/ 600MHz 1.87 40% 1% 37% 0% 0% 0% 47.0°C 13:24:44: 600/ 600MHz 1.72 39% 1% 37% 0% 0% 0% 49.0°C 13:24:49: 600/ 600MHz 1.74 39% 1% 37% 0% 0% 0% 47.0°C Armbianmonitor -u output: http://sprunge.us/HjEg

You can try the standard version activation multi-download.
1. Download and burn image on SD card (mes. #6)
2. add dtb
3. to activate the multi-boot and try to start the system.
