p.s. Now I am testing a new image with a 5.16.rc2 kernel, in which HDMI and USB work. After all checks are completed, new versions of images with a new kernel will be available.

For everyone, in order to avoid problems and have a guaranteed working device with a desktop (DE XFCE \ Mate\Lxde\KDE\IceWM etc), I recommend using proven models. Now full-fledged devices are available that can completely replace the PC. Entry-level device Firefly Station M1 (rk3328). For those who need maximum performance Firefly Station P1 (rk3399). For these models, there are versions of ArmbianTV Armbian LibreELEC (there are versions with HW acceleration).

P.S. I have both models available, you can draw conclusions yourself ....

balbes150 reacted to Igor in Do you like to see your favorite board supported?
Recently we announced that we are going to drop support for bulk of boards to secure better quality for those that will remain. But which will remain? Those who will have at least one dedicated maintainer - anyone can become one.

Check new "Armbian standard" support policy:

Armbian team took over what was possible while the remaining boards, which won't get a maintainer by December 1st, will loose support status and will be removed from the download pages.

New version 20211017 kernel 5.10.73 and 5.14.12. A significant change is the transition to a new version of u-boot with support for running any system from USB to M1 (rk3328). Now you can run any test system from USB media. So far, only USB 2.0 is working.

This is a tricky shit that hides behind openness, but in fact tightly controls the main part-the loader. I.e., at any time, it can block or completely control any unwanted person's actions.

It's funny, you described a whole theory about freedom, and as a result it all came down to advertising and pushing aml shit.
For your information, aml imposes its BSP shit on everyone, which is stuffed with Trojans and bookmarks to gain full control over those who use their shit. They lie to all users about their hardware and actively cooperate with those you are trying to protect yourself from.

In general, everything is as usual, if you remove the beautiful words about freedom, it all came down to the fact that "someone" would spend their time and money and provide the rest with free use of aml shit.

We are in doubts to make this release at all due to overall project strengthening and focus on securing maintainers and cut HW which doesn't have it. Alternative idea is to produce a release as is with minimal changes and focus on bug fixing straight from today.

Meeting is this Saturday, to get on common grounds.

the driver is responsible for this, it has nothing to do with the support of specific hardware.
I didn't check, but I saw that to add the desired screen resolution, you can add it at the user settings level.
try adding a parameter to extlinux.conf with your screen resolution

    @JMCC
I checked the operation of your KODI-18 packages on this kernel, KODI starts, but there is still an error and the video does not play, maybe I forgot some kernel options or a patch. I plan to check it again in the near future.

balbes150 reacted to JMCC in RK3399 Legacy Multimedia Framework
Yes, that makes sense. As a matter of fact, the legacy Kodi packages don't have any kernel dependency, it is only the meta-package for the whole multimedia framework that depended on the legacy kernel. The reason for that was that, if installed on a different kernel, it would break the system. But Kodi won't break anything by itself, so no kernel dependencies this time, I promise

@balbes150 well, I decided to put the Station M1 with a small monitor in the kitchen. That gives me a reason to make new Kodi packages. Only problem is that it is still packed in some box lying around the house. Let's see if I can get hold of it anytime soon

If you do not need maximum performance, I recommend paying attention to the new Station P2 and M2 models (these are full-fledged mini PCs). At the moment, there are systems with the Legacy core for them, but the development of support for the main core for the rk35x is very fast. And soon there should be a "monster" with very strong characteristics - RK3588. But if you need the most ready-made solution with the main core right now, I recommend P1\M1 . Just yesterday I tested the work of new versions of KODI with full HW support for playing full-screen video on P1\M1 on the main core (I pay attention not to the Legacy core, but the latest stable 5.10), everything works fine even with 4K. By the way, P1 (RK3399) copes with 720p full-screen video in the Chrome browser without problems , there are not big artifacts in 1080p mode, but with the release (I hope it will be in the coming months) of the new version of FFMPEG and adding its support to browsers, rk33xx (P1\M1) will easily cope with 4k in full-screen browsers.

@JMCC  I checked your KODI-18 package on M1 (rk3328). Everything works fine, plays 4k video without any problems. The heating of the system is less than 50 degrees and KODI shows a load of less than 50%. Great job. It remains to add these packages to the Armbian network reps, so that users can easily install and use them.

New version of images 20210915-edge with 5.15.0-rc1 kernel.
Please note, this version does not have an HDMI output, control is performed via SSH or UART. The wired network works, both LAN1 and LAN2 interfaces work on P2, M2 - LAN1.
Please note that this is the primary test version and unpredictable behaviors are possible.

On the TX6, I removed the bottom cover of the case and use this model upside down (so that the radiator looks up and has a good run for air movement). I do not know what kind of idiot designs TV boxes in China, they put the board in the case with the radiator down, this is complete idiocy. Apparently, these "engineers" did not go to school and do not know the laws of physics at all - hot air always moves up (if there is no fan). Therefore, with passive cooling (without forced air supply from the fan), it is necessary to place the radiator so that the air passes to it as best as possible and the heated air freely goes up.

Armbian is an established Linux for single board computers that is used in enterprise, IOT micro services and various hobby deployments. Recent desktop improvements bring the platform on-par with key players in the Linux desktop arena while keeping the key advantage – you can easily build your own Linux distribution.

Armbian provides stable releases every three months. They are driven by CURRENT LTS kernel. Adventurers which likes rolling releases, can check EDGE releases which are using latest daily kernel builds with fresh packages from sid, hirsute or impish userland.

Armbian has powerful build system which can build a whole Linux distribution, an OS image or a kernel. Key advantages are simplicity, speed and excellent hardware support. Provides native or cross compilation.
