lanefu got a reaction from devman in service restored
At August 6, 2021, 18:04 GMT -04:00 Our VPS provider had a massive data center outage impacting multiple carriers and power.  We were offline for approximately 4.5 hours...    our apt redirect service was moved to a temporary location around 3 hours into the outage.   It's since moved back.

FYI: https://status.armbian.com provides site status info.

Prior to this our awesome VPS provider had given us 100% uptime for 13 months

I would say same script, but changing the list to not include scheme, and then prepend scheme of client request to target mirror: https://github.com/armbian/dl-router/blob/master/app/mirrors.yaml
I also see that mirrors.netix.net entry is with HTTP, but it has forced redirect to HTTPS, at least after receiving the HSTS header once.

I'm learning Python by doing little contributions here and there, so I'll have a look if I can add this feature :).

Man we really need to write the definitive sermon on this and add it to faq / documentation.     I think there might be an issue open for it somewhere

Put few thousands on our account if you have such ideas or hire someone to get you that information. We have shared all we know - we always do that. To get a better information, to find a bug, additional time has to be lost. Perhaps a day is enough, perhaps a week wont. And we have other, much more important things to do. We would improve this service ...

Any more details so this is actionable by the community? Version/commit numbers of u-boot for working vs. non-working would be a great start on the way to a git bisect.

@Igor - I have just put a few thousands on your account. Can I therefore kindly a request a withdrawal of the "you don't care" part of the above? Thank you.

That is true and the sad part that most of the time the DEVs are not really honored for their work for which they sacrifice their own time for but one has to be honest enough to mention also that it's voluntary and by creating such work you attract people to use your stuff otherwise why would you publish it? One could develope it for own purpose but by making it public it's automaticaly something you give to other people and of course they will use it.

The nature of it will always have bugs or problems but this should be fixed otherwise there is no use of the software and people will dismiss this work and will get bad reputation over time.

It's important that users and DEVs respect each others time, effort and needs (no pun intended) and for the "normal" users remember:
This stuff is NOT free!!! yes not monetary but it costs valuable human life time which the DEVs sacrifice. Other projects have more developers so more man power.

I still think that Armbian is OS with good basis and possibilities but it's not for me in current state and everybody should just evaluate if they want to stick with it or just move on.

May be in few years I will try armbian again

I want to add to the list the topic userpatches organization #2915, which @TonyMac32 started.
This is a fundamental principle and it requires attention.

I guess I felt like that great discussion in rpardini's PR was sort of shut down prematurely.  Maybe the forum is a better place where we can take the long view over time and build more consensus about some of these bigger changes.

Here, everyone have a beer and relax, get into right frame of mind.

Doing this should probably trigger it.  https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/lib/distributions.sh#L157

    Also take a look at

    https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/lib/distributions.sh#L372-L379

    Might be related to https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/packages/bsp/common/lib/systemd/system/armbian-firstrun-config.service#L9

Probably best to keep conversation here for now.  Mostly we use issues in GitHub for major bugs / problems
