I am using the following script to transfer a system to another volume (in this case the running system to emmc) (UUIDs to be adapted to your case (sed -e 's/UUID=<from device>/UUID=<to device>/g' -i /mnt/emmc/etc/fstab)

    #!/bin/bash # Check if user is root if [ $(id -u) != "0" ]; then echo "Error: You must be root to run this script." exit 1 fi cat > install-exclude <<EOF /dev/* /proc/* /sys/* /run/* # /tmp/* # /root/* EOF exec 2>/dev/null umount /mnt/emmc exec 2>&1 mount --uuid 7268e76f-3e1b-4e01-a6be-987654321098 /mnt/emmc rsync -avxSE --delete --exclude-from="install-exclude" / /mnt/emmc # change fstab sed -e 's/UUID=b790c4d7-5709-4000-91ac-123456789012/UUID=7268e76f-3e1b-4e01-a6be-987654321098/g' -i /mnt/emmc/etc/fstab sed -e 's/UUID=b790c4d7-5709-4000-91ac-123456789012/UUID=7268e76f-3e1b-4e01-a6be-987654321098/g' -i /mnt/emmc/boot/armbianEnv.txt umount /mnt/emmc rm install-exclude echo "All done."
On top of that you may wish to manually rsync /var/log and /var/log.hdd to the other device.
The segmentation fault is probably caused by the wrong bootloader on emmc. Armbian tools might overwrite it. So install again the recommended bootloader to emmc.
    Good luck.

TDCroPower reacted to prahal in Helios64 - Armbian 23.08 Bookworm issues (solved)
@TDCroPower I use "apt-mark hold <package>" and then on "apt upgrade" I get the package marked as hold told:
The following packages have been kept back: linux-dtb-edge-rockchip64 linux-headers-edge-rockchip64 linux-image-edge-rockchip64 The following packages will be upgraded: openmediavault-compose still "apt list --upgradable" tells the on-hold packages as upgradable.
I mean "apt-mark showhold" is the way to tell which packages will be kept on upgrade.

For the second question, why on your second box you do not have linux-dtb-* and linux-image-* on hold, I can only guess from the armbian-config code (ie /usr/lib/armbian-config/jobs.sh and search for "Freeze") that armbian-config only Freeze the installed packages with the name including the BRANCH value from "grep BRANCH /etc/armbian-release".
I believe if you have linux-dtb-edge-rockchip64 installed with BRANCH=current in /etc/armboan-release then armbian-config will fail to mark the package with "edge" instead of "current" in its name as on hold.

If I understood correctly, booting from the system disk leads to periodic failure and reboot.
But loading from the SD card does not lead to such an effect? It is important. Please confirm or refute.

When loading occurs from the SD card, your raid array is not connected.
The disks were just determined and they are mounted as /dev/*.
The system does not access them (does not read or write). Energy consumption is at a minimum level.
    When booting occurs from:
there may be short-term drawdowns of the supply voltage that lead to short-term inactivity of some chips
(resetting the clock, failure of the hard disk controller ....). Your operating system at the time of reading or
writing to the disk at the same time may be in the past or cannot read from the disk and as a result,
the failure stack is printed, each time different.

    Fault repair:
    1) Replace the watch battery on the board.
    2) Open the power supply and look at the date of manufacture of the electrolytic capacitors of the output stage (they are the largest barrels in size).
If the age is more than 5 years, replace them with new ones.

I always have advice for such a case.
Download an image with an early kernel or\and later.
Write it to the SD card and boot from it.
If the operation of the device is stable, you will be able to mount your root partition from which the device is usually loaded
and in the chroot environment you will be able to reinstall a stable kernel that you have tested.

If you setup the serial console to another machine and connect using a terminal emulator (picocom, putty, etc.), you can capture more of the crash log (and in a place where you can copy/paste). Instructions here: https://wiki.kobol.io/helios64/install/first-start/

Likewise, if you can get in long enough to edit the file, changing verbosity to 7 in /boot/armbianEnv.txt can provide more information.

What I see on your photo looks similar to a crash log I captured the other day, but I'm not getting very far yet on figuring out what is actually happening.

TDCroPower reacted to prahal in Upgrading to Bullseye (troubleshooting Armbian 21.08.1)
@TDCroPower OMV release are tied to a specific Debian release OMV 5 is buster only, OMV6 bullseye. OMV 6 should be pretty stable, a rc is close to release. As for the upgrade from google I get
    https://forum.openmediavault.org/index.php?thread/40927-omv-5-omv-6-upgrade/&postID=288759#post288759 and https://www.openmediavault.org/?p=3010
    votdev:
OMV5 systems with version 5.6.18 or later can be upgraded via the command line tool omv-release-upgrade. Please note that this migration path has not yet been tested with many systems.

I cannot tell for certain but I believe  omv-release-upgrade also upgrades Debian from buster to bullseye.

I had a similar issue with random reboots. Did DM @axelroy directly and also "tweaked" the system.

I am running the helios now for almost 2 weeks without issues with the following settings:
Min CPU speed = 400 MHz
Max CPU speed = 1400 MHz
    CPU governor = on demand

So it seems that the helios was rebooting when having to deal with intensive tasks - in my case: performing a SnapRAID scrub. Anyhow: Now I am at maximum speed of 1400MHz whereas the helios could perform even on 1800MHz. The question is if this is a problem by design? Or is there a way to fix it in order to let the machine run full CPU speed and performance governor? I am happy with the machine, no doubt, at the end this is rather a question of how I can achieve the maximum speed if needed.

It worked, I have my eMMC system back!

Here are all the steps in case someone else has the problem and wants to repair his eMMC image...

    1. download a previous Helios64 image from here...
    https://wiki.kobol.io/download/
    2. install the image on a microSD e.g. for Windows and macOS there is Etcher...
    https://www.balena.io/etcher/
3a. boot your Helios64 with the microSD and Jumper 10, see here...
    https://wiki.kobol.io/helios64/troubleshoot/#how-to-force-boot-from-microsd
3b. Alternative: from the serial console press a key on the keyboard while u-boot start. You will get the u-boot prompt.
From this prompt write and press enter. Helios64 will boot from SD... (thx @prahal)
    run bootcmd_mmc1
    4. if you are logged in as root user (normal users must put a sudo in front of the commands) execute the following commands...
    root@helios64:~# mkdir -p /mnt/system root@helios64:~# mount /dev/mmcblk2p1 /mnt/system root@helios64:~# cd /mnt/system/
    5. The contents of the /mnt/system directory should now be filled with the contents of your eMMC....

commit 06653ebc0ad2e0b7d799cd71a5c2933ed2fb7a66 Author: Dmitry Baryshkov <dmitry.baryshkov@linaro.org> Date: Thu May 20 01:12:23 2021 +0300 regulator: core: resolve supply for boot-on/always-on regulators commit 98e48cd9283dbac0e1445ee780889f10b3d1db6a upstream. For the boot-on/always-on regulators the set_machine_constrainst() is called before resolving rdev->supply. Thus the code would try to enable rdev before enabling supplying regulator. TDCroPower reacted to ebin-dev in Upgrading to Bullseye (troubleshooting Armbian 21.08.1)
@piter75 commited the emmc fix into Armbian and built Armbian 21.08.2 which is already available through the Armbian mirrors (via 'apt update && apt upgrade').

It is save to upgrade your Buster or Bullseye installation to Armbian 21.08.2 - but emmc read speed will be about 50% what it used to be.

You can roll back to the previous linux 5.10.43 kernel if you don't like that - just install those files with 'dpkg -i *.deb'.

For step 3 there is a way out of tweaking Jumper 10 if you want to boot force boot on SD.
From the serial console press a key on the keyboard while u-boot start. You will get the u-boot prompt.
    from this prompt write:
run bootcmd_mmc1 and press enter. Helios64 will boot from SD.
To force boot from eMMC instead of SD, do the opposite:
    run bootcmd_mmc0
This saved me from opening the box.

TDCroPower reacted to Igor in Armbian 21.08 has been released
Armbian is an established Linux for single board computers that is used in enterprise, IOT micro services and various hobby deployments. Recent desktop improvements bring the platform on-par with key players in the Linux desktop arena while keeping the key advantage – you can easily build your own Linux distribution.

Armbian provides stable releases every three months. They are driven by CURRENT LTS kernel. Adventurers which likes rolling releases, can check EDGE releases which are using latest daily kernel builds with fresh packages from sid, hirsute or impish userland.

Armbian has powerful build system which can build a whole Linux distribution, an OS image or a kernel. Key advantages are simplicity, speed and excellent hardware support. Provides native or cross compilation.

This release is hard work of exceptional individuals who have contributed their time and expertise into this release. Many thanks to – in alphabetic order:

Special thanks to users and vendors @orangepi, @friendlyelec, @khadas and @olimex that understand the importance of our work and supports the project with donations of cash, hardware & expertise.

    Enjoy!

    Tough Decisions

Odroid C4/HC4 boot problem has to remain unresolved in CURRENT 5.10.y kernel since fixing it would break Khadas boards. Problem was properly solved in EDGE kernel. We had to disable 3D on latest Amlogic boards due to instability Leaving behind published Deepin, Enlightenment, Gnome, i3, KDE plasma, Mate, Xmonad desktop due to space constrains and lack of maintenance. These options are still available within the build tool.
    Known problems

XFCE desktop is missing package gvfs-backends and xarchiver bullseye doesn’t properly detect locales Helios64 eMMC IO errors with CURRENT kernel OrangepiZero2 EDGE kernel based image doesn’t boot. Will be fixed in bug fix release.
