  1. As I have already mentioned in this Tread the BCM53125 comes with: Two additional Gigabit ports for glueless connection to CPU, WLAN, Cable, or DSL chipsets Picture from EBV Possible data flows (via VLAN, minimal IPtables/NAT like in my manual ?): R1 HDD /SDcard to local local to R1 HDD /SDcard R1 HDD /SDcard to internet port internet port to R1 HDD /SDcard local PC to internet port (doesn't need to be internet, can be another PC) internet port to local PC local PC to local PC 8 possible ways to go or did I misunderstand? This way we would basically understand what with the current driver is capable, WiFi has anyway a lower through put.

Don't get me wrong I am not complaining, I just thought about sharing the load. It is your baby, it's just that I like the automatic checksums check in Torrent. So I will always favor this than HTTP, if available
  3. Well, even if this board is just a prototype. The place where the HDD should be is crowded with parts ! Beside, I was thinking how to easy attach the HDD about 1,5mm above the PCB, but with a SATA connector. This way the HDD would far less heat up the components on the PCB. I cannot imagne that the chinese by itself will come up with smarter boards and cheap in price. My guess is, we would have to design mockups how it should look like and make this available to them, then they would copy it. Maybe with even some basic Chip suggestion.

Wow, have you considered to make a BitTorrent download available? I was currently looking for this on the internet, my little notes: The torrent file contains metadata about all the files it makes downloadable, including their names and sizes and checksums of all pieces in the torrent. It also contains the address of a tracker that coordinates communication between the peers in the swarm. Glossary of BitTorrent terms How to setup a torrent-server? https://help.ubuntu.com/community/TransmissionHowTo http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/304997-how-to-setup-a-torrent-server-with-deluge/
  5. This is tricky, as people sometimes mean it different. Megabyte /Megabit is 8 times different. I think currently on Ethernet the best we get is around 370Mbit/s / 8 = 46Mb/s This is an interesting point you raise, when did you find /come to this conclusion ?

It's nice to get a picture what you are delivering to the community. A lot of traffic for just a couple days in January. Is this the forum or the images?
  7. this implies that the file is not flushed. To autostart the temperature collecting daemon (sunxi-temp-daemon.sh) at boot, you can add "/usr/share/rpimonitor/scripts/sunxi-temp-daemon.sh &" prior to "exit 0" in the file /etc/rc.local RPi-Monitor Status page This can automatically update every 10sec this works for me. RPi-Monitor Statistics page Tested it in Firefox and Vivaldi, this page does never update, is this intention ?
  8. Thank you Wildcat_paris - but I chat with TK already a couple of months - I know he is not perfect. This is not RTFM this would have been: I have written many notes inside the sunxi-temp-daemon.sh So the information is spread somewhere between this thread and the .sh - and you do not mention this in the first posting here. This is the reason that I wrote a user manual - because the information in the forum is scattered and it is not useful. For SATA HDD In case you receive no HDD temperature, make sure you have necessary software installed: apt-get install hddtemp smartmontools do a reboot not to waste time, just in case Then perform: sudo update-smart-drivedb if you receive an error message, update this line: nano /usr/sbin/update-smart-drivedb SRCEXPR='http://sourceforge.net/p/smartmontools/code/HEAD/tree/$location/smartmontools/drivedb.h?format=raw' Then try again: sudo update-smart-drivedb Restart the the RPi-Monitor and test it: service rpimonitor stop pkill -f '/bin/bash /usr/share/rpimonitor/scripts/sunxi-temp-daemon.sh' nohup /usr/share/rpimonitor/scripts/sunxi-temp-daemon.sh & service rpimonitor start Does it work - finished, if not: smartctl -a /dev/sda (look for temperature value) hddtemp --debug /dev/sda hddtemp -n /dev/sda fix it for yourself, read here this worked for me I hope this is of any help for you
  9. I have some questions regarding the setup, I have Kernel 3.4.108 For my HDD it says: undefined root@lamobo:~# hddtemp /dev/sda --debug ================= hddtemp 0.3-beta15 ================== Model: HGST HTS541075A9E680 field(1) = 0 field(2) = 0 field(183) = 0 field(184) = 0 field(187) = 0 field(188) = 0 field(190) = 34 If one of the field value seems to match the temperature, be sure to read the hddtemp man page before sending a report (section REPORT). Thanks. Currently I power my R1 via USB, does it measure the mA correctly too or does this only work via Battery-Connector? Did you take prevention that this file is not getting too big? If I choose not to add this command, at reboot there is no information about the temperature? I had to: service rpimonitor stop nohup /usr/share/rpimonitor/scripts/sunxi-temp-daemon.sh & service rpimonitor start and then it reported me 100° C which frightened me a bit, but then came down 'fast'.
  10. I sent again an Email to SinoVoip /Foxconn asking for schematics. So the BCM53125 ist capable, but I guess the A20 does not come with 2 ports for GBit :-( I read on the link above, that documentation is available once you have registered for the Broadcom community. If we can decrease the time, where in case of reboot the device is unsecure - it would be better than now. The power issue got solved in March '15 - I will not talk about, you and I know more than enough about it. I disagree, simply for the fact that it has not this all-in-one approach of the R1. The idea is great and had I people around me who can design PCB and know how to choose the right hardware - it would be easy to build an R2. Solid-run nor Turris do solve that issue of the all-in-one. Router, NAS, Cloud, Mediaplyer and with your software not from QNAP, Netgear, Zyxel, Synology. You can get a HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 G1610T but it is power hungry, big and kind of noisy beside the far higher price. So all we tinkerer want, is to get the best out of the R1 and have fun that it works, right?
  11. To overcome this unfortunate situation you thought about to start the Switch later. When I read the comment from Kevin, I thought about if it is possible to prevent or delay power for the BCM53125 ?
  12. The BCM53125 delivers the most comprehensive technologies required by top tier service providers for gateway applications. Protocols such as IEEE 802.1Q-based VLAN with 4K entries, port-based VLAN, VLAN double tagging (Q-in-Q), and VLAN translation are fully supported. Two additional Gigabit ports for glueless connection to CPU, WLAN, Cable, or DSL chipsets In the key-features there is a block diagram. 13. US$ 99.- = WITHOUT: case, power supply, antennas, Wi-Fi cards and cooler. = totally useless
  14. He didn't ask for sarcasm, he already understood. Have a look at this one, but I guess it is not DEBIAN And in Switzerland TK knows a company they make boards with low power X86 processor - I cannot remember the name. In your profile I cannot read in which country you live, because of stupid german WEEE (Switzerland has a much simpler and better system) rule they do not deliver to Germany.
  15. @maxman190 because you already have device. Be persistent, do not give up and write every couple of days about your specific problems with your favorite image. Either you start a fresh topic with your favorite image-name or continue with that one. @lionwang @BPI_Justin (coder) @noralee (product mgr) remember you must be stubborn
  16. Hi, just recently I received a suggestion to do this. The bash script is written, but it needs some maintenance. Have a look and any idea is welcome Cheers Tido
  17. Hi, If I remember correctly wanted TK look at the boot up from R1 (couple months ago) - shortly after he returned, complaining there is no UART
  18. An alternative for isc-dhcp on Page 9, written from Ashok Aiyar, I put it here because it is not just a fix but an instruction how to replace the isc-dhcp server with dnsmasq. I find dnsmasq to be a better option to isc-dhcp-server, because it provides both DNS and DHCP servers in a single package and configuration file. Also, dnsmasq supports caching, so with a large cache, it provides really fast name resolution after using it for a little while. Here is a dnsmasq setup consistent with the rest of the Armbian BPi R1 configuration given in this very helpful guide. a) Install dnsmasq (apt-get install dnsmasq) b shutdown dnsmasq (service dnsmasq stop) c) Edit "/etc/dnsmasq.d/dnsmasq.conf" with the contents shown below: # interfaces interface=br0 no-dhcp-interface=eth0.101 # # DNS configuration min-port=4096 cache-size=10000 local-ttl=3600 neg-ttl=3600 bogus-priv domain-needed expand-hosts resolv-file=/etc/resolv.conf # # DHCP configuration dhcp-authoritative dhcp-leasefile=/var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases dhcp-option=br0,1,255.255.255.0 dhcp-option=br0,3,192.168.9.2 dhcp-option=br0,6,192.168.9.2 dhcp-option=br0,28,192.168.9.255 dhcp-range=br0,192.168.9.150,192.168.9.250,255.255.255.0,72h # explanation of options: # option 1 = net mask # option 3 = gateway # option 6 = DNS # option 28 = broadcast address # assign address range = 150-250 # lease time = 3 day (72h) d) shutdown isc-dhcp-server (service isc-dhcp-server stop) e) start dnsmasq (service dnsmasq start) f) confirm that IP assignment is working and that you are making use of the caching nameserver within dnsmasq g) If it works, then remove isc-dhcp-server (apt-get remove isc-dhcp-server) Thank you Ashok for your contribution
  19. Hi Back in February '15 I have started to write an instruction about the setup of a BPi-R1 (Router). In the threads of the Forum, the information is scattered and it takes so much time for each to get along. So I thought such a document would help to become not only faster, but to achieve a better result as well, as you can faster spend time with the device and tweak it. My know how is getting better, but things are still missing. If you like to help the 'community' with your know how, please leave comments in the document if you find errors or you find something missing. Google Docs Thank you in advance - for your support Cheers Tido
  20. So Thomas, here is the confirmation! It is time do open your USB3-OTG cable carefully and rearrange the cables to their schematic - the USB3.0 cable I used is customized - Although I really wonder where he customized the cable - zoomed in on both pictures and I cannot see that the cable has been changed in any way ??? Hmm, this cable in the picture may be doesn't work and was just used to take the picture. Concerning soldering, in opposite to that movie, cables should be cut at different places each, so a short-circuit is less likely and the cable does not get this thick at one place Hmm, I don't know if cables in USB are twisted, than this would have to be done on the plug directly. PS: in the thread he added another HDD benchmark
  21. Hi Rui, In my Banana 15.04 manual these steps are documented for a couple months now :-) In Igor's armbian these steps were not necessary because he already delivers a driver and a fresh hostapd. The only new thing is this, that I found lately and is mentioned in this thread from me as well. neighbours to enable always 40MHz channels. I hope the first joy, will last long. Cheers Tido

  23. Why not writing a script for LAMP. Why not writing a script for VPN Why not writing a script for iptables Why not writing a script for whatever simple copy & paste, the UNIX way, one task, one program The LAMP script I modded a bit does work for the Kernel 3.4.108 - it runs smoothly on the R1. #!/bin/bash # author: Martin Clauß - mc@informatik.uni-leipzig.de # created: July 14 2013 # This script is based on this tutorial: http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/486 # cd into the directory where you saved it, make it executable by: # chmod +x LAMP_install.sh # start it with: sudo ./LAMP_install.sh echo "********************************" echo " LAMP installation script" echo "********************************" if [[ $UID -ne 0 ]]; then echo "You must be root to run this script. 24. Hi, Just out of curiosity, why do you open a new thread, if there is one pinned on top? Here is the link
  25. I don't like the idea at all to use GOOGLEs DNS 8.8.8.8 and I know that my setup worked. Usually, your Internet-Service-Provider (like comcast, swisscom, british telecom) will serve you with DNS (domain-name-servers) to get a quick lookup. So without a lot of knowledge I try&error, read and finally found the solution or what I did wrong. I started originally with dnsmasq and at some time I decided to replace it with isc-dhcp because part of it is already installed. In isc-dhcp it directs DNS traffic now to my NETGEAR router which has the Provider DNS in its config. So I have now activated the 'gateway' in the interfaces so that the /etc/resolv.conf also gets this information AND BOOOM it works. Please try and report back.
