  1. I see, was this Android 8? I'll do some more digging then. I will test with android 6 and 7 and see what I can find out.
  2. Interesting, I'll have a look into the initrd issue and see what I can find. Edit: Did you try this method https://www.thegeekstuff.com/2009/07/how-to-view-modify-and-recreate-initrd-img/ or https://sites.google.com/site/sridharlreddylinux/linux-t/initrd-img or https://access.redhat.com/solutions/24029
  3. There is a BIG difference between Android and GNU/Linux, I can not run my NewCS carsderver under Android, among countless other applications....
  4. I was thinking: My Android (7.1.2) for MXQ Pro+ 4k runs on a Linux 3.14.29 kernel, that's the Linux part (and why the correct name for Ubuntu, Debian etc. is GNU/Linux). The Android image is pre-rooted so I have access to all parts of the system in theory. What if I just copy the missing GNU components from another 3.14.29 GNU/Linux into the proper directories and purge the Android specific stuff, will I get a running system? The kernel has support for all HW in the box, yes some modules I will have to keep, but if I just copy and not overwrite anything I should get a working GNU/Linux? What do you guys think, am I missing something essential here?
  5. Tested the Armbian_5.76_Aml-s905_Ubuntu_bionic_next_5.0.0-rc7-next-20190219-g43dc36c94-dirty on MXQ Pro + 4k >(S905x), boots fine but USB does not work so unable to log in.
  6. But it is fairly simple to connect a RJ45->USB network card to any box without ethernet, I use it on my Guleek I8S running Linux Mint 19......
  7. Woah. Thanks, do you know anything about the 905x2/y2 performance wise? Is it even worth thinking about?
  8. @balbes150I was looking at this box https://www.aliexpress.com/item/A95X-Plus-Smart-TV-Box-4GB-Amlogic-S905-Y2-Android-8-1-4GB-DDR4-32GB-ROM/32953087994.html?spm=2114.10010108.1000014.2.44b24a952D1axa&gps-id=pcDetailBottomMoreOtherSeller&scm=1007.13338.115306.0&scm_id=1007.13338.115306.0&scm-url=1007.13338.115306.0&pvid=06e2fa39-0ebf-4815-8644-b60da8d29e59 Will Armbian on it be plain sailing or is there some quirk with the S905Y2 cpu that ruins the fun? And what about the ARM Dvalin MP2 GPU ?
  9. I have Norwegian ketboard(s), but the one I use for testing is a small simplified wireless keyboard with tackball...
  10. No I did not copy it from the website I wrote it by hand. I have only one type of ' on my keyboard, except for "
  11. As I wrote I did exactly that and it worked ;).
  12. Tested the image on my MiniM8S (s905), ran the script, rebooted no sound, ran update-initramfs -v -c -k 'uname -r' ('uname -r' does not work, had to type the version) still no sound unless I connect an external soundcard via usb. Testvideo plays smooth and nice.
  13. What's the status for kernel 5? I don't think I'll bother anymore testing kernel 4.x since none of them has sound and some not even booting on my 905's...
  14. Mmmmm, maybe download the source and compile it yourself?
  15. That might be due to poor programming in chromium, how does the test video run for you?
  16. Ok, so I did som testing with the 5.75 S905 images on my MiniM8S (S905). The Ubuntu variant boots from SD-card but complains that it has no support for the cards voltage. Changed to USB boot and is able to start Linux. WiFi works, no BT, no ethernet and no sound. If I connect external soundcard (usb) sound works. With external BT-dongle BT works. Video plays smooth and beautifully also in fullscreen just by doubleclicking the test video. The Debian variant won't boot from SD-card, from USB it seems to start booting but dies after a minute or so.
  17. Well that would be great We can only hope...
  18. I see. Bilinear certainly is faster but not so good quality... Would it not be possible to have the Mali prescale every frame to display resolution in fullscreen mode?
  19. Well I suspected it to be a scaling problem also, but should not the GPU take care of scaling? Or is it still not used?
  20. I see. Pity the manufactureres are not more forthcoming, but so is life, I guess...
  21. @balbes150 Will this TV Box work well with your image(s) and will the HD be supported? https://www.banggood.com/THL-Super-Box-Amlogic-S912-2GB-RAM-16GB-ROM-TV-Box-Hard-Disk-Case-Smart-APP-Control-p-1323245.html?rmmds=search&ID=47184&cur_warehouse=CN
