Toast got a reaction from chwe in tnx for the time that the cubieboard 2 was supported
was onboard here from the start that was a couple of years ago was around pre apt repository even  been happy with the support only had one hickup and that was the last couple of pushes the latest kernel works just fine but thats just it staying on the same kernel isnt good in the long run.

i care less about write speed aslong as im getting sata support and about the same speeds as i get from the cubieboard 2 im good

again my hat goes off to @Igor and the rest of the crew for the years of support.

and ill certainly check out any board that has the qualities that im looking for.

Toast got a reaction from gnasch in (suggestion) Webmin - easy Armbian manager
why move into the distro its easily installed outside of the repo as is..

here is the reason i use armbian cause its lightweight non BS fluff, just pure console, stable and fast. If we start adding webui that requires a lot of dependencies its not gonna be lightweight its just gonna be another bloated distro.

rather do my management in console then thru a webui.

+1 on leaving this outside the distro all together.
+1 let the users that really want this to install it on their own.

hell im not forcing users have LMS into the distro so please dont force me to use software i dont want, let em install it on their own via adding repos.

plus the dev team is small enough so just keeping up with releases etc for webmin is bad enough rather let em focus on providing a solid kernel for the devices then looking at what software has been released this week.

i really dont want any of that as default upon a new install.. less is more its better to have as optional rather then mandatory.

Toast reacted to tkaiser in Security Alert for Allwinner sun8i (H3/A83T/H8)
This security flaw has been proudly produced by Allwinner itself: https://github.com/allwinner-zh/linux-3.4-sunxi/blob/master/arch/arm/mach-sunxi/sunxi-debug.c

As Zador explained there might be good reasons to enable/use something like this while developing, the real problem ist that none of these devs does really care about Linux and 'productive use' (and security at all). That's one of the reasons no one wants to use these BSP kernels since you never know how many surprises like this are hidden in there.

Fortunately mainlining efforts for H3 are still progressing nicely so we can throw this Allwinner 3.4 crap in the bin rather sooner than later

You buy it, just because it is soooo cheap.
Than you find out that it is worthless and it sits on a shelf and collects dust.

Are you kidding? I wrote, try 'one of the many apt-cache variants' and you enter 'sudo apt-cache variants'? If I would've written 'one of the many apt-cache alternatives' then you would've done an 'sudo apt-cache alternatives' instead?

This is a link above showing a few different variants how to use 'apt-cache' to get the information you're interested in.

Basic things (what I have tested) are working but we need to do more tests. I think fiber is not done yet since there some patches left behind and need to be fixed. Will do that in next update. Stability in 4.4.x needs to be tested ...
