Balbes150, Process completed successfully, i have created Ubuntu xenial with kernel 4.19 rc3 for my Vim pro. I did try to create Ubuntu bionic, but it didn't finish, i assume it is because i need to use 18.04 pc? I did burn the image, i did use it for a few minutes, it doesn't have sound, tested with chromium and mpv, also i don't have any usb flash drive to see if the usb works, usb keyboard and mouse works, last time i used Usb sd card adapter, device wasn't recognized, but keyboard and mouse were recognized. Yt in Chromium works nice in 720p, but only in window mode, fullscreen doesn't work well. Well, i have few questions, so let's start. How do you update for example Armbian switching from 5.59 to 5.60, or newer kernel, is this automatically updated, or do you need to edit your github? How can i choose additional packages to preinstall, maybe i want to add another browser, music player or any other software i want to use? How to add files to image, you always add test videos, how can i do that? I chose not to see kernel configuration, because i'm inexperienced with Linux, especially with kernel, i understand what it does in theory, but it looks extremely complicated to me. Is there a way to add that V4L2 m2m (Amlogic vpu) driver to the kernel manually, i assume this driver is not here because the sound would work then? I know i am annoying,but i really want to learn about all of this, and i don't want to rely on just one person, you are updating this images for more than 2 years, thank you for that, if it weren't for you, C2 would probably be the only Amlogic board with decent support. If anyone wants to try this image, i will upload it somewhere on the internet. One more thing i forgot to mention, i didn't create nothing, this is all yours, i just copied your work to my pc.

I am trying to build from Balbes Amlogic github source, it starts the process, but i got 2 errors, error in function compile kernel (compilation.sh:404), failed moving kernel DEBs. There's a line of code mv: missing destination file operand after 'home/khadas/build/output/debs/'. I am doing this on Lubuntu xenial, trying to build 16.04. xfce with mainline kernel, by the output in terminal it looks like it 4.19 rc3 kernel, am i missing some packages or do i need to edit some config file?

This maybe looks like a stupid question, but i would like to try it out. I have Khadas Vim 1 board, which is not officially supported by Armbian, but there are other Amlogic s905/x boards like Le potato or Odroid C2. When i run compile.sh script, it only shows supported boards to build, there is no s905x board even in expert mode. I would like to build an image for Vim, but i don't know what i have to change or add, to be able to build Ubuntu image for Vim. I know there are Armbian images for S9xxx tv boxes, and they do work very well, but i would like to try to build it by myself. Ignore this post, found it, i'm inexperienced with all of this, so sometimes you literally need to draw me the steps, i am a win user:)

Today i've tried to build an image for Vim1, i've made Ubuntu xenial, 4.17 with lxde using fenix scripts available from Khadas. I also tried to run Armbian script, but it looks like Vim isn't officially supported on Armbian, there are other s905/x devices, and there are also various meson64 files created, but there is no sign from Vim. So, i probably need to clone your repo to be able to use this script, but it's funny that Vim has no support, it's not a tv box, it's a sbc? Balbes150 can you tell me what are the steps needed to make Armbian Vim images, is it possible by editing some config file, or is it only possible by cloning your repo? I forgot to mention that i've tried to build yocto image, but it showed me some errors during the build process, i followed instructions, but unfortunately it didn't complete succesfully.

If it is possible, could you provide links to the stuff needed to watch hw accelerated videos? I do believe it's not an easy task, but if it isn't too complicated, why not, i would try. I know you are doing this in your free time for free, and that is why we all wish to thank you. I would help you if i've had the knowledge, but i don't know much about Linux and programming.

I believe he has to install package located in balbes150 armbian 5.59 folder, subfolder deb, it solved my wifi issue.

I downloaded latest image, bionic desktop with 4.18 kernel , copied dtb, pasted it to root folder, renamed it to dtb.img, and i still don’t have wifi network. I did even try to load modules, modprobe wifi_dummy and modprobe dhd, as root of course, nothing worked. Balbes wrote that Vim wifi was fixed in this version, my Vim doesn't show anything, i've tried dtb from both folders, nothing worked. Device is Vim1 pro.

Anyone with the answer?

Will this be fixed in future armbian images, or we will have to fix it every time new image is out?

I've tried Ubuntu using 4.18 kernel, does anyone know when the sound will be supported, maybe kernel 4.19? I've tried to play 1080p yt video using firefox, it runs smoother than before, but it's pointless to play it without sound. It's good to see Amlogic soc making progress in Linux kernel, hope they will fix everyting that needs to be fixed soon.

When log in screen boots, enter user "root" and pass 1234, immediately after that type your new pass, it will ask to retype your new pass, and it will accept your new pass.

Installed bionic with kernel 4.18, start screen doesn't take me to cli where i can choose user name and password. It starts with gui, and i don't know user name and password, tried with user name "user" and "root", password 1234, it didn't accept any of them, what is the default user name and password? Edit: Figured it out, i managed to login, no need for help.

There is no gpu hardware acceleration on these boxes, only software that doesn't require hardware acceleration will run smoothly, you can't watch videos unfortunately. Sent from Tapatalk

I do understand that it's not an easy job, you don't even have proper support from hardware manufacturers. I would like to be able to play 1080p videos in browser, edit documents, listen to music, editing photos and maybe even a little video editing. I rarely play games, so this system makes it great for me, i believe all of this should be possible on Vim. I do not like to use Le, i do not want to use Kodi only Os, i want more from the Os. The reason why i want Ubuntu or Debian or some third distribution is because Android isn't a desktop Os, it's harder to use and achieve many things in the system designed for touch screen devices. Maybe i am asking too much, this is my first sbc, but i think it needs to be possible. Tapatalk

Balbes, what do you think about Khadas Vim, i preordered this board in november 2016, i do like it, they have updated android to nougat, but i did bought it because of the Linux support. They have released only 1 Ubuntu Mate image so far, and i expected a little more from them, i want to use this board as desktop pc, not as replacement, but to use it for less demanding stuff, where x86 raw power isn't needed. Their Ubuntu Mate rom released in february isn't better than Armbian images provided by you, it's bad when you realize that this is an official release. Do you believe that they will solve all those issues that most sbc suffer from, 2d/3d acceleration, hardware video decoding and stuff like that? I know you have this board, and i don't want to spam Vim forum, but this is getting a little disappointing, Ubuntu 18.04 will be released before they release another image? Tapatalk
