The output of "fdisk -l /dev/sda" doesn't show any partition ...

But strangely, the previous log mentioned you have /dev/sda1.

Are you sure you provided the complete output of fdisk ?

what do you mean output of fdisk?

  2. I tried to create a file using ext4 and ext3, now it says "The file system creation has completed successfully." but then it disappears.  With the other microSD card, it would fail with communication errors, so at least it is completing, but disappears.

/dev/sda seems to be present !

Did you check its partitions with "fdisk -l /dev/sda"  ?

    root@pine64:~# fdisk -l /dev/sda

    Disk /dev/sda: 28.9 GiB, 31043616768 bytes, 60632064 sectors
    Units: sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

  4. just installed it on another microsd card using Etcher.  Booted up, but now when I try to access it using Chrome on my windows computer, it is not taking my password.  I am using root  and openmediavault as the password.  Did not have this problem on my other trys.

never mind, it is admin............ old age is taking hold.

  5. Thank you Tkaiser,  her is the link for the log you requested.  I have written to the same microSD card several times using Rufus, but same results.  I will try a different microSD card and use Etcher.

Thanks for your help..  Very frustrating, but the more I bang my head against the wall, the more I learn......

  6. Been working on it all day, I give up.  Perhaps I don't have the correct understanding of how it works.  The OS is running on my 32 gig microSD card, and I tried to mount a 32 gig pen drive for the storage container.  I tried ext4, ext3 and XFS, but they would time out with communication error.

I originally tried my 4 TB WD MyPassport, but that had the same problem of timing out with communication error, so that is why I tried with 4 different Pen drives.......

I know this is the wrong forum for this problem, but thought some may be able to set me straight on what I am doing wrong.  Also, I am only doing this as a learning project.  I will be 70 years young in a couple of months, but may want to go into the IT industry for a second career, so need to learn all I can........ :)

  7. Thank you Tkaiser and Tido, I just downloaded it and now will burn it to a microSD card and see how it works.

I am in, using the web interface now.  I have to figure out how to use it, now...... haha.  I have an older Synology NAS but their interface is much simpler.  All I want to do, is use it to access data files from the internet, such as a spread sheet or word processor docs.

  8. Pardon my noob question, I am still learning.  I have been running Armbian on my Pine board for quite some time,  now I would like to use it as a NAS.  I really have no idea how or where start.

    thanks

  9. I have been using my $40 US Amlogic box running Ubuntu 16.04 for quite awhile as my Emby and Tvheadend servers, and it works very well.  Here are a couple of my videos showing my X9 (same as the Mini M8S II).  These boxes are Soooooo versatile, they run Linux, ArchLinux + kodi, LibreELEC, and of course Android (and a port of the Android TV OS).

Request to all, who have the opportunity. Check run this test video in KODI on the last image 20170702. I am interested in the behavior of the system when playing on different TV boxes (with different dtb data).

According to the test results to write the model and result (reproduce or not).

That file is an audio file, not a video file.  I have my Amlogic S905x connected directly to my Samsung 4K TV, but my box only connects as 1080P.  I am running your latest update.  Is there a setting to change the setting to 4K??

When I change the video setting in Kodi to a 4k resolution, all I get is a black screen.  I have to reboot the box.

My 1 st Micro computer as it was called then, took up the backseat of a 1966 Olds 442, it was a Altair 8800 kit a picked up at a yard sale in northwest Texas in 1977, I think.  I taught myself tiny basic on this. "writing" (really just copy code from magazines) text games.

Ah, that 1966 Olds 442 was the car I dreamed of.  Was going to purchase one after I got out of Army, but choose alcohol instead. My first computer was a TI 99/4A, then a used IBM desktop, sometime in the early 70's

The expansion of the section need to be run from another system (not from the running system). You can use Linux on a PC (not install,  run in LiveCD mode). You can run Armbian with a USB stick and run the extension on the TV console. By the way, many do not know, but if you have Armbian on the USB\SD card , you can perform all operations on unpacking and recording new images on the media box from Linux.

Thank you, I will give that a try.

Edit:  Using your instructions on how to expand the partition, I used my $40 Amlogic S905x running your Ubuntu port, I was able to expand the partition.

Thanks for all that you are doing......  Here is a video I made showing how I used Gparted to expand the partition.

  13. I got it running on a 16G microSD card, but struggling to expand the partition.   It is only using less than 2 gig and I can't figure out how to expand it to use the full capacity of the microSD card.  I tried the command line for gparted, no luck, tried fdisk, still no luck.  I am just learning Linux, so this is only a tutorial for me, to learn.  Kodi is running, but since this is a beta, there are a lot of things it won't do.

  14. Most if not all of this conversation is way over my head, but all I want/need to know, as a practical user, can it TRANSCODE on the fly.  In the last 4 or 5 years, I have had several of these Rockchip based devices, and have always been disappointed, because Rockchip does not seem to support the OEM's.  I have one of the Pine 64, 2 gig version  boards, and it is running your Armbain Ubuntu on it's $5 Alwinner SoC.  I use it for Emby, Plex and tvheadend servers, but it does not have enough CPU power to transcode on the fly.

I am also running Ubuntu on a Rockchip Rk3288 SoC device, and using it as a Emby, Plex and tvheadend servers, again, not enough CPU power to transcode on the fly.

I am also running Ubuntu on a couple of Amlogic devices and again, not enough CPU power to transcode on the fly.

I would love to see a test on this board running either Emby or Plex servers and being able to transcode several live TV streams on the fly.

I haven't been able to get it to boot. What device are you running it on and how did you install it?

Looking at a picture of your device, I see a reset hole, so installing the Ubuntu image that I have linked to will be easy to do.  Just follow the instructions that I have posted.

I do apologize that I am using a Ugoos Ubuntu image, I could not get an Armbian image to install on my Rockchip device.

Also, I see a micro USB port, so that should be your OTG port for flashing the firmware.

  16. I am using an old Beelink Rbox, Rk3288 2/8 gig, non-gigabit Ethernet.  Go to this link (http://ugoos.net/downloads) and download this Dualboot firmware v.0.3.1: Xubuntu 15.04/android 4.4 for UT3 firmware.  Extract that Rar file using 7 zip or something similar, inside you will find the "Android Tool".  Install the "Android Tool", if using Windows right click inside the "Android Tool" window and select "Load config", then select "config_Linux".  Then just run the tool.

You have to be in loader mode to run this tool.  Not sure how your device gets into loader mode, but my box has small opening to use a paperclip to depress the reset button.  Hold this reset button while connecting the power and OTG USB cable.

Edit:  here is some information on how to get into the "loader", using my particular device.
