I was able to set screen resolution on OrangePi4 by appending this line:
extraargs=video=1920x1080@60 To /boot/armbianEnv.txt .
 
On my board the screen is turned on only after a little while after the powering up, so I have figured out that the screen resolution is set by the kernel, not by u-boot. Thus you need to add a parameter to kernel command line.
The line has to be added verbatim without quotes (as suggested elsewhere) and then everything after first = is inserted into the middle of Kernel command line (check dmesg output).

Already earlier today I received shipping confirmation of my first order!  With an updated ETA which was some days earlier than originally projected.
 
I guess what I am saying is, if you are on the fence and not sure the stuff will arrive in time, give it a shot, as I think they seem a bit conservative in their initial estimates (when trying to upsell you on faster shipping ).

without any major changes, the two kernel build scripts (builddeb  mkdebian) build different versions in the same way, starting from 5.4 and higher.
Changes were required in the part that concerns the 'armbian' build system itself.
 
To be honest, I spent longer looking for places where temporary folders are created, and those places where they should be deleted after completing their function.

I never know what to get anyone.  If I'm being honest I have more than a little disdain for how commercialized the holidays have become nowadays.  We were not raised in a materialistic way growing up.  A lot of gifts were socks and other actually useful things like that (which I only appreciate now as I get older ).  Anyway...

So this morning, I went nuts and spent > 400 USD sending everyone in my family some Armbian swag.    I figure, it's a good way to get the word out there to friends and family about a project I care a lot about, while supporting the project a bit financially at the same time.

I also don't like to rush people (because I don't like to be rushed, myself), however if you are going for delivery before the holidays I would place your order ASAP, maybe even today.
 
One final gotcha, their credit card processor apparently only allow 2 orders per day.  Luckily I had sent orders to other family first, because my third order was denied.  I called their customer support and they confirmed this issue and told me to try again after 24 hours.  So the stuff that is coming here for us I will place that order (again) tomorrow.  I just wanted to give everyone a heads up about that though.

Full disclosure: I was one of the winner of a free Station P1 and they ask to provide a few postings about it.
So this will be my first one where I unbox it.
 
Funnily  I did expect some kind a cardboard box but instead I received a plastic bag. Well, I take it.

Within the Fedex bag was another bag from DHL. No idea what happened there...
Anyway inside the bubble wrap I found a HDMI cable, a remote control a flyer presenting various products and (finally) a car
 

 
Apparently I received one of the first products since mine has the serial number 000049

 
After opening the box I was greeted with the Station P1 itself wrapped in a small bag which I already removed in the picture:

 
I have the say the housing is really nice. Seems well made. I won't bore you with more details because I am pretty confident that others like @NicoD will provide some close-up footage of his product
 
Anyway after digging deeper I found another box containing the antenna, a 100-240V to 12V DC power supply with US plug, a USB to USB-C cable, some buffers and a hex wrench:

 
Unfortunately I cannot power it since I life in Europe and the sent plug does not fit my sockets. Fortunately the power supply is providing far range input voltage so a simple plug adapter will do. Though I have to order one first.
Next I most likely will play with Armbian on Linux 5.10.x and at the end try some desktop playing using TwisterOS.

We don't record general Linux kernel bugs and we don't record user space bugs. Why not? Because covered R&D budget is zero, nothing. Your contribution to this project is about 1000x too small that we (<10 people) could afford to cover problems that are discovered in the Linux kernel or in any out of several thousands of community made and maintained code. I am talking about this round the clock, things are improving but sadly remains on the same level. We are losing opportunity to get a better code, I know, but since this project is heavily attached to our scarce time and private pocket, you really not in a position to complain or ask for more.
 
Because most of the people have no perception on the scale of this project or their (your) questions and the fact that we can't pay millions for working hours needed to solve bugs you find and code your wishes. We established a wishes section here: https://forum.armbian.com/forum/38-feature-requests/ but TBH, even reading them is not possible. Its always a trade - helping you or dealing with our families.
 
Now think again and remember that public level of co-funding only mitigates the problem of download / infrastructure costs. Luckily we don't need to put disgusting ads to this website to cover those expenses. You cover them. But there your contribution ends. We can't pay for to hire 1, 10 or 50 full timers that would start dealing with what "you" want for free. We rely only on a few volunteers.

Since linux v5.4 armbian_build enables the CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED config option.
 
Some armbian users use the soft real-time features for either real-time audio (jackd), or control (eg. klipper_host_mcu),
However, real-time group scheduling, enabled by this options complicates the user space configuration required to acquire real-time scheduling in applications and daemons.
 
Setting ulimit -r or LimitRTPRIO= is no longer enough, it is also required to allocate CPU time for RT task. In a brutal way this can be done as 
 
echo 950000 > /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu,cpuacct/{system,user}.slice/cpu.rt_runtime_us JACK documentation recommends using cgroup-tools for configuration. This is redundant with systemd's own configuration of cgroups hierarchies.
 
However, it is currently not possible to setup with systemd configs files: the team responded "wontfix, accounting rules for RT_GROUP_SCHED are too convoluted for systemd to support"
The systemd's README was updated with the follwing warning:
 
I was hesitant to open an issue on armbuild_config. The changes in the config file are quite recent (Dec 2019) and probably unintentional (kernel default).
But, I could be missing something. Surely lots of folks use RT scheduling on their board. Maybe along with an older kernel ?
Does real-time group scheduling have any use on SBC ?
Do you have simpler solution for this problem (other than CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED=n) ?

Amlogic (S9xx) Android based TV Boxes

1. They are not supported.
2. A single developer (@balbes150) had worked years on getting things to the state they are.
3. As of October 14th, 2020 balbes150 removed support for Amlogic CPUs, so that is the last build that will maybe work on your box.
4. There is a very small number of people on this forum/club that are able to provide any guidance.
5. Most likely no one on this forum/club has ever seen your specific box.
6. Expectations should be set low (i.e. don't expect anything to work) but if you do get the box to boot, get HDMI and wired ethernet to work, you are doing good.
7. You really shouldn't expect things like Wi-Fi, bluetooth, remote control, etc. to work.
8. If you get this working on your box, it will likely only be useful for server type tasks, maybe a little light graphical desktop usage, but certainly not video/multimedia.
 
Other RockChip (rk3399, rk3328, rk3288) and Allwinner (H5, H6) based TV Boxes
 
9. These will continue to be supported within the limits that are possible for the equipment the devs possess.
10. They are (in fact, have always been) CSC which means Community Support only!  In other words, not officially supported by the Armbian project!
 
So, why even have these forums?
 
As a place for people to try and get together and help one another.  At least it is something.
 
Also, there used to be a lot more (better supported) activity here while balbes150 was still releasing his fork of Armbian.
 
What other options do I have?
 
I (@TRS-80) recommend cutting your losses and starting over, and this time around using the list of Armbian Supported Devices as a starting point for researching purchasing some other device.  Taking this approach will result in a much easier time, less hassle, better support, and usually for a much longer period of time (assuming things for your device get mainlined into Linux kernel).
 
Even using that list as a starting point, do your homework.  As any particular device can have some little quirks / gotcha(s).  There are a lot of resources available on the (wider Armbian) forums already, please use them!
 
@SteeMan however takes a different view.  He lay out his arguments in favor of trying anyway (see below) in spite of all the above.
 
If you choose to go that route, at least we can say we warned you now.

I did not immediately realize the importance of your "multiarch" comment (especially for us here at Armbian!), until I was reading something at r/docker about someone who was trying to use x86 container on ARM which of course is not going to work.  As containers are, after all, just some upper part of filesystem overlay + some isolation, but still relying on underlying hardware of course.
 
I went to linuxservers.io and was checking out their blog last night, some good and relevant articles there, IMO.  Seem like pretty cool bunch of dudes.    A much smaller (and less slickly marketed) group than I was expecting, to be honest, based on their very outsized awareness / reputation in container circles around the Internet already.  Good for them!

Probably the only permanent solution is constant maintenance which will not come just like that - you need dedication, lot of free time and cash. We can't cover nothing at the degree users would want - already most of the project costs goes from our private budgets and it is always dealing with our goals / problems / families or solving never ending problems that bug users.
 

Feels good!  A (rare) compliment usually helps to move things on, but we are too low on resources and swamped out with core things to move things around and fix after some random problem in upstream Linux kills support for certain device. It happens all the time ...
 
We are asking people / your for help all the time so we could build things up - both are coming slowly, but significantly slower and totally out of sync from what you/users would wants to have.

I ordered a replacement MOSFET (same model), including a drop-in replacement from vishay with better power ratings (just in case it should happen again). Unfortunately shipping is taking longer than it should. I temporarily bypassed the MOSFET to get all the hard drives to boot up so I could transfer the more important data. I was hoping fixing it would be faster than receiving a replacement board - and for me dealing with UPS is playing Russian roulette. Fixing it by replacing a 13-14 cent component is the better option for us both. Hopefully I won't ruin the board in the process!

Branch "desktop", which is going to be merged in 1-2 months, also supports native arm64 compilation. You can build things on your board. No excuses  (but its currently in WIP state so it might break)
 
 
What we don't have are resources to deal with "everything". Plans to implement this or that can easily be extended over few releases. A year can slip by and there are slim chances that features just show in mainstream.  Sometimes they do, but usually much later. 

Generally speaking, there are several boards meeting your requirements, as "server" use-cases (as opposed to "desktop") have been much better supported for a much longer time now.  I used Cubietruck for such tasks for very long time (and still do) however there are better boards available nowadays for actually even less money (read on).
 
Now to specifics, I used to think SATA was necessary, too, until I read this glowing review of particular USB to SATA adapter by tkaiser (from 2017!).  Surprisingly, this device is still available here.  I have several of them and they have worked well for me.
 
If you are willing to consider such adapter (instead of strictly sticking with SATA requirement, which as you noticed is more rare), this of course open up the possibilities a lot.  When I needed to buy another little "server" board a year or two ago, I chose ODROID-XU4 at that time which are (like Cubietruck) still 32-bit, however still quite powerful with a lot of CPU and USB3 and RAM, etc. and can be had for ~60 USD these days.  Other than the adapter caveat, this meet all your requirements and I think you might be happy with, I know I (and others) have been.  I think they went down in price because they are "only 32-bit" however this means (to me) just a good deal to be had (maybe?).    To make "apples to apples" comparison, you will need to add the price of PSU, eMMC, SATA adapter, etc. to that figure, though.
 
And that is where I personally am at, currently.
 
Now going forward, there are a lot more newer and more interesting boards, especially some of RK3399 (64-bit) based ones as Werner brought up.  One of these will probably be my next purchase at some point.  They will cost a little more (I think?) but as always, add costs of PSU, flash (eMMC or sdcard), etc. to get the full picture on any price comparison.  Some of RK3399 even support fancy stuff like NVMe, etc.
 
One final generality, I always recommend to stick to Armbian Supported Devices list as a starting point for any research.  But you probably know that already.    And remember, even some boards that look great "on paper" can have little gotchas, or be better for this use case or that, e.g., N2 have most raw power in CPU but is limited by I/O.
 
I learned that on some NicoD (YouTube) video, he has made some good ones, maybe you want to check them out.  He is focused more on "desktop" usage, but has a lot more experience with a lot more boards than I do, especially some of these newer ones and so I find his videos still very informative.
 
Let us know your thoughts more and how your research is coming along, if the right person see your post maybe they save you from one particular little problem or another.

Results of a quick test of the native build using the Desktop version. For tests, I tried to build several options - XFCE \ MATE \ KDE in the "minimum" and "maximum" configuration for Station P1\M1 with the current and legacy core. The "minimal" configuration is an option where no group is selected on the last package selection screen. "Maximum" configuration-all package groups are marked. The build (native) runs without errors and the output is working images. Offer. Add the "standard" options in the settings (the necessary packages are selected automatically without additional user steps), this option is equal in the set of installed packages to the current position (the set of packages is equal to those that are currently installed in DE XFCE master branch). The "maximum" is automatically marked for all the available this DE packages (options). Custom setting ("minimum") when entering it, as now, no packages are marked, the user can, not specify anything, then the output will be the "minimum" version of DE or the user chooses the necessary groups\packages.

So if you look at the device tree you'll see pin controllers like GPA0, GPA1, etc. I'm not sure how the kernel gpio device enumerates them, but basically a chip is a pin controller and lines are the pins. The main thing is soon you'll be able to look at a pin map and know exactly which physical pin it is.
 
Also gpioinfo seems to sort by chip string instead of int, thus 2, 21, 22, etc. are all 2s

Thank you for documenting the steps you made and thank you for actually reading the documentation (first). Most of the people try first, then complain on forums and only then they check documentation
 
It will help us to improve the system and also to check if upcoming structural changes / improvements, which are planned to be merged within 4-6 weeks,  will not break what you just achieved / the user customisations. Changes are mostly related to desktops, but some basic principles are also changing / improving on the way.

That is normal. Unlike other distros Armbian does not use crappy stone-age FAT32 filesystem on sd card. Simply put it into your SBC and it will work.

I have a NanoPC T4 (RK3399) with Friendly ARM ubuntu distro NOT Armbian as yet - I plan to migrate hence why I am reading these forums

on another system stop tvheadend, untar profile, start tvheadend.
