@TRS-80 Effectively all your messages ended up in SPAM, most probably because your first message contained a link :-/ FYI this is the result of Disqus SPAM engine not our actions... and it's not like I'm checking the SPAM box every 5 mins. I just approved all of them except the one where you start claiming we are censoring messages. Maybe next time before jumping to conclusion better to get in touch by other channel (like here) and ask what's happening. I mean honestly what would have been our interest in censoring your message on free software ? Our track record on Helios4 shows that we have always been super transparent. Plus your question is more towards Rockchip than us, since they are the one who so far are keeping their SoC pre-loader close source... there is clearly nothing hide. Anyone the pre-loader issue is something that will improve soon.

TRS-80 EDIT: I believe you if you say so. But I removed picture showing partial personal info (email address) in your spam management console as I am very privacy conscious person.

I love the XU4. I used it for a long time. Good GPU drivers, no VPU drivers but great CPU. It also was a hell to work with. The thing overheats very quickly, it isn't very stable. And many boards have passed it in every way. But not one all at once.
It was by far the top for a long time. But it's getting old.
The most versatile board in my eyes is the NanoPi M4. It can do everything. But it isn't the most powerful.
If you want good cpu perfomance the Odroid N2 is by far a better bet. But that's got its issues. And little I/O options. Only 1 USB3 controller for all 4 ports, and they perform bad. Things you don't have with the RK3399's.  But biggest advantage for N2 is you'll never need a fan to cool it.
Also the Khadas VIM3 is an awesome machine. It's got the most powerful CPU there is. The Odroid N2 + 4 x 400Mhz more on A73. Tho more expensive, and only the pro is advisable. I've got the 2GB/16GB version. SD card reader is mighty slow. eMCC too small to do something. Only 1 USB3 port for an ssd.  Works ok, but it's not perfect at all.
For that the N2 has a better option with eMMC modules up to 128GB.
The NanoPi M4V2 now is my main machine. Don't use any pc(except the atomic pi) anymore. I just need a second desk to put all my boards and more displays. Instead of one power hungry machine, I use many very power efficient ones for my different tasks. But the XU4 has been down for a long time. With the above reasons. (and I've got too many other boards as well)

Without getting into the file system wars - might consider BTRFS, which is much more GPL friendly...

One of the challenges with the low memory platforms is that ZFS is fairly RAM and compute intense for what it does - that being said, for the right purpose, it's a good file system to look at.

TRS-80 got a reaction from lanefu in [Moderation] Resources, Tips, Guidance
Well, off the top of my head, I think the only way would be to (by default) place all new posts in moderation queue for Development forum, perhaps with exception of known group of Developers. But I think this type of solution would end up to be more work and hassle than the problem. And potentially limit valuable contributions and feedback from new people / Developers joining the community (and might put them off so much they never return).

From what I understand that has already been tried with pretty much the exact same results as I just laid out above. But I am the new guy here, so... ?

Also, I am having some extra time right now, and able to give the forums a lot of attention, but that will not always be the case. So maybe not the best idea to vastly increase workload of (current and future) volunteer Mods. Just my $0.02. Igor, I know you like to create comfortable environment for Developers who are even more valuable than Mods I would say, but Mods are people, too.

EDIT: Therefore taking all the above into account, I propose that the simplest, least intrusive way for Devs and Mods to work together would be to start promoting the idea for Devs (or anyone, really) to simply flag ("Report this content" little flag) and then let us Mods do our job. Hopefully not too distracting for the Devs?

EDIT2: If that is not enough teeth for you, maybe give them a day or two (or more?) to think about it (short ban) in addition to the Warning? Personally I am not as bothered by this sort of bumping, but I am not a Dev and clearly it is a pet peeve for you (and perhaps others?).

EDIT3: Maybe by creating this sort of super Developer friendly environment, you attract more Developers. IS the trade-off worth it? I don't know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So far, this is the closest thing to what I have been looking for. If it only supported ECC (or that was perhaps made available as an option) it would be really interesting for ZFS. Pity.

If anyone has found a small SBC (not gigantic 1+U data center thing) that is ARM based with ECC memory, please let me know.

EDIT: Apologies, I just now saw this:

When and if that actually comes to market, and is well supported in Armbian, you will have a customer!

Please do not include anything stupid like non-free, proprietary firmware that would preclude the use of such nice hardware in freedom.

If you can manage all of the above, you will not only have a customer, but a very vocal proponent!

It would have been nice at least to keep the mention that the device Balbes was talking about was the X96 Max, that's not specific to any store and it's just a board with a supported SoC (S905X3), otherwise his post becomes confusing or misleading since it's a different hardware from the one posted above.

I was talking to @soerenderfor about getting on IRC (and some initial confusion he had) which reminded me of something I was already thinking about before:

Originally we discussed redirecting irclogs.armbian.com -> whitequark log display website, but somehow we ended up with irc.armbian.com -> whitequark website.

I have always thought that to be a bit confusing, perhaps at irc.armbian.com we should have a landing page or some instructions, wherein contains another link to the exterior logging page (and clarifying it is an external page perhaps). And/or also redirect irclogs.armbian.com to there.

Since DNS / site level stuff rises above my pay grade to @Igor and/or @lanefu, I am pinging them here.

I already went overboard in there once, causing a great kerfuffle. So I will wait and see what others say.

After that drama yesterday. I was told the TV Boxes forum are "lightly moderated."

So if we are adding to that "light" list:
removing Android OS (not Armbian) discussions then that will be news fore me. But I will await consensus.

It seems that we are in the process of clarifying some long standing "unwritten" rules/guidelines and getting them written down now, for easier calibration of new current (and future) Mods.

In the TV boxes section, it is quite calm and there is enough of the standard option. If the user has the first message on the forum, all messages are put in the moderation queue. If there is at least one approved message, the user can write directly to existing topics. If I see that his messages are spam or violate the rules, I delete them. As far as I understand, for those who have few messages (3-5- ?)- creating a new theme is put in the moderation queue. So far, there have been no problems. I read all messages in the " my " section and can see where there are hidden ads and delete such messages. If you have any suggestions or comments about my work, I am ready to listen to them.

"Congratulations," you threw the money in the trash. Here for $ 20 is a full-fledged model with a wired network and tested for working with Armbian (without WiFi).

Here's a link to a model with a much better chip that your model doesn't even remotely compare to.
s905w with a full LAN port and SD card support, it's easy to buy for$20
and   If desired, you can even find the s905x3 (which is an order of magnitude better than the s905w) for the same $ 20-22. The S905x3 has a USB 3.0 SD LAN ......

    Hi, thanks for the reply!
I was using images from here, since tx5pro is not an officially supported device:

I managed to get it working in the end. The issue is that i was following outdated video tutorials for this, and the new instructions changed.  To be more concrete, i was copying the device tree to the root of the sd card and renaming it, instead of changing the env file to contain the path to the proper device tree file. So i was booting with the wrong dtb file each time

if anyone gets stuck on this, i followed this:
    https://www.ondroid.net/armbian-os-uenv-ini-and-extlinux-conf/
the folder structure is not 100% the same (dtb files are in dtb/amlogic, not in the 'dtb' folder) but similar enough.

Nobody want to seek information a place where you get the feeling of being arduous.

    I have 20 years self-taugght computing/hardware skills.
If i could help in some way just let me know.

    Hi Igor,

it would be an honour to help you on your project. I highly respect this forum and I'm really interested in ARM Technologies and Debian based distributions. My hat's off to the guys at Armbian to manage a huge project like this
Besides that I'm using SBCs for server solutions another attempt to get a deeper look into ARM technology was to deal with Banana Pi products on Amazon. This attempt cost me a lot of time and in the end I almost lost my company too. The product line of SinoVoip or Bipai Keji (HK) Limited got messier each month. After they fired my main supporter anything got worse. Since then I'm seeking for a new opportunity for my company to get a footstep into the ARM world. Especially the Armbian Forum.

I ceased the Amazon sales last week. Therefore I have a few hours left each week for a new project. So the time would be perfect to support an opensource project. If you're interested, I'd looking forward to get to know each other on the Armbian Forum.
What might interests you as well is that I worked as a first level supporter, almost for elder people, for 3 years. So I know my place if something gets out of control and people gets angry or confused.

The only problem I may see is if you need moderators with short reaction times or too much hours each day. I think I can handle work like once, maybe twice, a day for something around an hour or so - 12/5.

I'm looking forward to read you
    Best Regards, _r9

Just found this thread today. They are still asking $9 each, as of today (plus shipping, I am guessing).

Am I crazy for thinking to put 2 of these together and make an edge router? I already have a big 24 port Gigabit switch, and can add some Access Points later (Ubiquiti or whatever)?

And to think I came to this subforum just now to post a question to recommend a router hardware.

EDIT: Thinking further, I don't think you could use it as a router, as they are separate devices (separate CPUs, NICs, etc.)...

    @Alexey,

Please do not multi-post the same issue in different sub-forums.

I merged both your posts together here, and moved the new combined thread to Common Issues subforum as I suspect it is going to be general software related rather than board or Armbian specific. If that proves not to be the case after further diagnosis, we can always move it back, later.

Back to the issue at hand, are you sure the appropriate ports are open/forwarded on your firewall, etc.?

Rather than pollute the other thread, I figured I would create a new one here.

As a few of us just became moderators at the same time, perhaps we can help each other out learning.

So far I found the following resources helpful:

    House Rules:
Armbian Guidelines - An overview of subforum organization / "where to post."
Armbian Registration Terms - Very brief few rules.
Moderator Duties - Moderator duties described in role application
    Do not censor posts
Only Edit User posts for formatting
Only delete post if empty, by request of creator, or if post is 100% spam

    Forum Software
This forum software is called "Invision Community."
Documentation - Particularly the "Staff and Moderation" topics part way down on the left look helpful:
Saved Actions Moderating content Moderator and Admin logs The Moderator CP Warnings & Restrictions
    Questions
From comments in other thread, seems like most of us have moderated other places before. If you come up on a post or situation you are unsure of, ask in here, we can help each other out. Then we are building also a sort of base of institutional knowledge for others to follow later.

    IRC
I would also encourage everyone (not just Moderators, we are all just community members, too) to hang out in our IRC channel which is #armbian on Freenode. It is still unofficial, but we are actively working on (re?)taking control of it.

https://github.com/sgjava/userspaceio supports C, C++, Python and JVM (Java, Scala, Koltin, etc.). Do we really need another Python lib besides WiringPi and RPi.GPIO? Also, I have non-root access working for pretty much everything.

Another thing, from looking at the CircuitPython site it appears to only support micro controllers at this point, not a full blown SBC. For this type of stuff I'm using NodeMCU with Lua which is mature and is hard to beat from a price/performance/usability perspective.
