  1. Browsing the web with chromium on ubuntu mate is really slow, opening a few tabs will put the CPU at 100%, I can't even watch youtube videos without lags at full screen 720p, is it just me ? I'm using Tanix TX3 Mini with S905W processor. Is it the problem with the CPU power being too little or is it because the CPU is just too hot that it can't make use of its full CPU performance ?

The images with the kernel 4.9.40 is only for those TV boxes, where set a new u-boot (Nougat-Ubuntu). Today, this model Khadas VIM and VIM2.

Hi balbes, can you tell me what packages are required to run kodi on the ubuntu server image ? and is there any additional configurations I have to do to make it run flawlessly ? I know you already uploaded arch with kodi but I want to learn how to install kodi on the server image myself.  No desktop environment, just a minimal setup for kodi. I know there's LibreELEC already but it's too limited, I can't install additional packages on it. Thank you.

Balbes150 once again apologizing - the image works and thank you so much for the work done. The remaining 2 flash drives are excellent.
And maybe that ill-fated flash drive was on 2Gb and just did not have enough space to save the changes?
The question is almost not interesting to me, but still we will ask it. I have WiFi RTL8189 on my board (I do not know the letters) Ubuntu does not see it in any way, I assume that it's all about dtb.img - in what file can it be defined? the only one with which I have so far launched the system is gxl_p212_1g.dtb. tried so far only gxl_p212_2g.dtb - with it the system does not load :(

You may have used a dtb.img file for your hardware, try changing

on the main page there is a description for what boxes the images work.
For your (in my opinion) should approach the images that makes Balbes150

In my models of TV boxes wired network works on DHCP. Perhaps you are not correct dtb file (there are options for the network card 100Mb, or 1Gb).

The module loaded for the Wifi ?

Okay I'll try using the dtb.img from the armbian ubuntu mate image on archlinux and see how it'll go, I'll give you a report later. Is there a noticeable performance increase when upgrading from S905W to S912 when using the armbian desktop ? There's 11.11 discount promo on aliexpress and I'm interested in X92 tv box

Spent the time. I took from website the latest image of Ubuntu server. Recorded on the medium and started on VIM (s905x). I looked on the DHCP server which address is assigned to the TV box. With the PC running the SSH session connecting to the TV box. When connecting the system asked for the initial password immediately after the opening session was required to enter the current password. We need to introduce new (especially write the password option, which usually enter tests, if You yourself can not come up with a working version password for root). Here is a variant of password "1q2w3e4r" , to the system request enter it again. be prompted to enter a name for the new user (enter the "user") , after a couple of seconds, receive a request for a password for the created user, enter "1" and repeat the password. For other requests, the parameters are a new user, just pass Enter (5 times) and final confirmation to go on the restart. So, if you do it right, no Ctll+C is not required. I don't believe You are so cunning equipment that it does not allow to correctly perform such a trivial sequence of actions. As long as You follow the basic instructions for initial configuration of Armbian, I see no reason to respond to Your questions.

Unlike other images, the ethernet on S9xxx_ArchLinux_20170914_3_14_29_KODI.img.xz is disabled, I can't ssh into it when I plug in my ethernet cable from my router to my tv box. Which file do I have to edit to enable it ?

Anyway can someone recommend me a good tv box to use armbian on ? I want a box that is at least good for browsing the internet with chromium and watching movies at 720p. The one I have right now (tanix tx3 mini) is slow doing both of those tasks.

In Desktop images KODI is already built and done necessary settings for the HW. When you manually install KODI in other versions of the images, additional configuration is required system for HW. I see no difference in speed between the LE and KODI+Armbian, when using the same media (SD\USB\eMMC). For the upgrade version of KODI have the free time I have now it is not. Anyone can build a new version KODI and share with all.

What kind of image it is, with the kernel 3.14.29 or 4.x ?

Judging by the described steps and symptoms, you have violated the procedure. You should start with activation universal multi-boot (this is not the same that is used by many collectors in the LE).

Thank you for the info, I'm still suspecting that my SD card slows down the ubuntu distro. It happened when I had LibreELEC installed on the SD card as well, now that LibreELEC is installed in the internal memory the lag is gone. Anyway I'd like to copy the remote.conf from LibreELEC to Ubuntu so that I can use my remote on kodi running on ubuntu, do you know where I can find that file in LibreELEC ? I searched in /storage/ and it's not there. One more thing I'd like to ask (sorry for asking a lot) how do I auto start kodi on boot ?so that when I turn on my tv box it shows kodi automatically

What's the chip in the TV box ? If s905 or s905x you can use KODI (full screen video) built-in XFCE and Mate images. The installation of two or more systems in eMMC is only possible with the new version of u-boot. For example, this option is for Khadas VIM and VIM2. For them, there are versions of firmware with two OS (Android + Ubuntu) and with three OS (Android + LibreELEC + Linux).

Mine is S905W, I have installed the kodi.deb that you provided in the first post, but the performance isn't good, probably because it's installed on my SD card instead of the internal storage. Do you plan on compiling kodi 17.5 ? yours is still 17.3 right now.

Thanks it works, but on your first post you wrote 720h60hz instead of 720p60hz. I suppose that's a typo ? Anyway is it possible to dual boot the internal storage? I mean I wanna install LibreELEC to the first partition of the internal storage and Armbian to the second partition of the internal storage and then I can just choose which one I wanna use on boot, just like PC. Is it possible to do that ? Armbian running on my SD card is really slow and I don't wanna get rid of LibreELEC installed in the internal storage.

    Add line

    [SeatDefaults]

    autologin-user=username

    autologin-user-timeout=delay

    to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/11-armbian.conf

I do not understand why you desktop, if you're not using the keyboard ? As you want to use it without a keyboard ?

By the way, passing information to all. If you add the correct file "remote.conf" in /boot and make a password with numbers, you can enter a password and log in to the system using the remote control (if it has a numeric keypad). You can enable a mouse mode and move the cursor and control the system buttons on the remote control.

Thanks it works, I still want to test the desktop first before whether I should decide to buy a keyboard or not, my TV is only HD but ubuntu mate is in Full HD so it looks zoomed in too much, how do I set the resolution to HD 1366x768 so that it fits my tv perfectly ?

  9. I'm using the ubuntu mate image in this thread but I can't get past the login screen since I don't have a USB keyboard to be attached to my tv box. How do I auto login to the main screen ? I've tried adding this option to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf but still doesn't work:

    [Seat:*]
    autologin-user=tanix
    autologin-user-timeout=0
    user-session=ubuntu
    keyboard=onboard
    # Uncomment the following, if running Unity
    #greeter-session=unity-greeter

tanix is the username I created during the first boot

Burn the image Armbian to the media. Reactivate multiboot from media Armbian. You will then be able to run any OS with external drives in any quantity

I'm sorry I don't quite understand yet, Correct me if I'm wrong:
    1. First I have to burn the armbian image to an SD card
    2. Then boot to armbian from my sd card on my tv box

Then how do I reactivate multiboot from armbian ?

I nearly ordered that one too, but it seems it's not capable of displaying any UI higher than 720p. The frame buffer doesn't wanna go higher. The wifi might be unsupported. I might pick it up again though. It looks nice and the manufacturer has an actual website with updates.

Getting it to boot shouldn't be much of a problem. Then it would be a matter of compiling the right modules to get all the hardware to work. There's a thread over at freak tab about the "issues" and this cute little box.

Thanks for the link, on that forum someone already tested libreELEC everything works except the wifi, hopefully everything will work in the near future

  12. I'm running Openwrt CC on orange pi zero, I use it as a router with its built-in wifi. When I transfer files from my computer to the opiz, I get 1MBps of transfer speed, is this normal ? Is it possible to increase the transfer speed by using an external USB wifi ? On my android phone it gets even worse, even loading pictures from the opiz through ES File Manager lags a lot.

  13. I'm sorry for the lame question, I just don't wanna regret anything before buying this fan, so I'm talking about this fan (3cm x 3cm)

I want to mount this fan right below the board by just screwing it in. Do the holes fit perfectly with the holes of the opiz board ? I've asked this before on facebook but someone suggested me to just glue the fan directly onto the board but I'm afraid it'll damage the board instead.
