I expect this is the software.

Free software is software you may use, share, modify and redistribute. To my knowledge

orange pi one has an armv7 cpu. And the

gpu is the same as on a pinephone. On this forum I was told command

    apt purge iozone3 armbian-firmware

might turn armbian into a free software system. There is an

armv7 libre linux kernel, which to some extend supports mali

gpus. I want to test the libre linux kernel on an orange pi

one computer, to get to know how well a Mali 400 MP2 runs on

free software. Maybe it can give a streak of how well the pinephone's

gpu will run on free software? How do you test a libre linux kernel

on an orange pi one? Do you purge the linux kernel from

armbian and then install libre linux kernel?

    Thanks.

What is the significance of a battery connector?

Does it make it easier to make a battery notebook which you can connect and disconnect a power supply

unit to while notebook is running and charge while running?

Free software is software you can use, share, modify and redistribute. Does the wifi work

    on free software?

    This computer is not?

Does the rock64 have a battery port?

    Thanks.

Are you going to tell all the makers to stop making boards so just one can be sold?

I was talking about how to organize the software development more efficient such that

instead of having a number of partly supported computers, we have one or a few which

are fully supported. I would want it to be able to run on free software which is software you

can use, share, modify and redistribute. Thereby giving people a viable free software

    alternative to a raspberry pi.

And there is no best board.

It should be possible to agree on a computer. It should be powerful enough to act as a notebook. I do not think free software people are able to organize such an enterprise. But that is free software people failing.

most of the boards run very well with Armbian .

I got an orange pi one. I tested armbian stretch on it. Playing hd videos stutters. Browsing internet is close

to not working. On this forum I was told it is due to lack of software support.

Would the orange pi one not have stood stronger against the raspberry pi had the

software about the orange pi one been organized such that

it got full free software support, including if necessary a crowd funding of reverse

    engineering some pieces of software?

  4. Companies like orange pi

develope hardware. Put it on sale and then gamble on that people will

    provide the software?

It appears new hardware turns up every year. Do computers like those from orange pi

reach a level of full software support?

Would it not be more efficient if one computer got identified as the best on price

and performance and then software development would get focused on

that computer? Such that one computer would become the computer to buy. Isn't

    that what raspberry pi did?

To me it appears that all these armbian computers results in divided efforts. And

no armbian computer reaches great software support?

Of course even if it got agreed upon which computer to focus on regarding providing

software, after some time another computer should be agreed on.

I notice a couple of inefficient circumstances about soc computers looking like

the raspberry pi. Unlike atx their ports are not located at the same spots.

Unlike x86 one image is not working on all of them.

    https://libre.computer/

Isn't libre computer introducing standard arm images

    like standard isos for x86?

It it good to know who is trying to provide free software for this hardware.

But my question about bootlin was more the lines of, can you tell if enough

money was paid to bootlin, then bootlin has the skills to deliver

free software for every device on the soc computer?

    It says

Debian based distribution specialized for ARM developing boards. Compiled from scratch

Is it a free software cf free software foundation debian system armbian makes use of? Then parts of non free software gets added

    before compilation?

Maybe the only pieces of non free software which gets added are iozone3 armbian-firmware?

  7. In general I want to know, how many arm mainboards is it required to order and the manufacturer

starts negotiating about specifications you want to get modified?

I do not say at the same price. If I tell the manufacturer of the orange pi one, I want the arm mainboard

but it must have 4gb ram and usb mini b connectors at what volume number does the

    manufacturer start listening? 50000 mainboards?

    Thank you.

    elaborate more, please

I take interest in if a piece of software is free software cf free software foundation. You say:

    Quote

you can have a smooth experience with video up to 1080p@30 in Chromium, with RK3288 boards and Odroid XU4. Armbian kernels already support it

What I want to know is, the piece of armbian kernel software which enables rk3288 to display 1080p

    video, is it free software?

  9. I have tested the orange pi one xenial. When I say test it is not benchmark tests. I do not know what the numbers say anyway. I open several common

programs and watch what htop says. If I run an mp4 file on a media player, libre office and file manager it runs well and

    htop says about 300mb.

It is a 10usd computer and I do not expect it to equal a x86 desktop.

If I open firefox, firefox crashes before starting. Because of not enough ram?

If I open chromium or midori ram usage goes to 100%. Cpu does not. You cannot really browse sites very well.

Youtube videos is the same. Is it becuase 512mb ram is not enough?

On my gnulinux x86 notebook firefox commonly uses several hundred mb.

Is there a browser I can install which will make it possible to play a youtube video?

    Thank you.

  10. orange pi one

    armbian xenial

When I obtained the orange pi one I installed armbian xenial. I booted the orange pi one. During boot I

cannot recall if a red light flashed next to a steady green flash.

    The desktop worked.

The orange pi one was connected to a hdmi display. Resolution 1280 x 720. I wanted to use

a 1024 x 768 vga display by hdmi vga converter. The desktop would keep the

1280 x 720 resolution when displaying the desktop. I tried different things in order to get

a 1024 x768 resolution. Did not work. One configuration resulted in trashing the

power supply. I connected another power supply. The power supply got hot. Desktop

did not start. I do not know if the orange pi one got damaged.

I then reinstalled armbian xenial on the sd card. Started the orange pi one. Desktop worked.

Booting a red light flashed next to a steady green light. Starting the orange pi one

again and there is a green steady light.

At first booting a red light is supposed to flash? Thank you.

you don't tell your use case.

    On https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Free-shipping-7-Inch-Android-4-4-Fashion-notebook-HDMI-Laptop-inch-Dual-Core-VIA-HDMI/4362013_32893471150.html

you can buy a 7 inch display notebook.

There is also a 10 inch display version.

I am trying to determine which mainboard I would have the notebook to have. If main priorities are free software

cf free software foundation's requirements and performance adequate for common debian utilization. To me it

is at the same time having a running browser. 5 open tabs. One showing a youtube video. File manager

running. Email client running. Running libre office or a media player or photo editor.

It seems rk cpus are the ones to select among. If choosing between the rk3288 and rk3328 the

    rk3328 is the better choice?

Can you answer if the free vpu software will work on the rock64 rk3328?

the best choice for a notebook?
