I think the best possible SoC that is also well supported is any device featuring RK3399. Yes there are successors now, the RK35xx series but it will take years go get to the same mature level as the RK3399 is now.

    UPDATE:
Even changing the cables, the disks keep failing over time. I wasn't able to have my NAS running more than a day or two without a failure on the disks. After buying an APC UPS with Boost and Trim Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR), my NAS is now running without any failure over more than a week!
So the problem was the unstable energy in my house. Maybe I'll try to put back the original ones to see if it works.

Listen. With all due respect, you totally misunderstand me. I never expected that you would work on this, as you are already outside of my budget and are no doubt super busy.

That is why I posted in the P2P room. To see if I could find someone (a peer) with more experience than me with U-Boot, who was willing to do it for $500.

So when I said I would donate, it was not to try to persuade you to help. I said it simply because I believe in your project and I want to support it. So if I ever have a success, it is only fair that I pass some of my profits to Armbian.

Also, I never asked to get a fully fledged working system (as Balbes asserted). I only asked for an updated version of my DTB file. It's right there in the title of the thread. The drivers and other stuff I can figure out by myself.

Thanks for the pointer to the Debian experts. I didn't know that was an option. Will check it out.

    Regards,
    Roy

This is kind of important information since this means somebody else already went through the pain of sorting things out once earlier.
So somebody who is up for a bounty might use this and get the necessary stuff from CoreELEC and port it over without need to dig very deep into stuff.

At the moment, so far only for Buster 4.4 there is a media package with KODI and mpv (HW)  in network repo armbian. As soon as @JMCC releases and places in our repo a new version of the media package for the 5.15 kernel (I have already checked its test build of the package for Bulsey and it works well with full HW acceleration), I want to remove the old version (4.4) from subsequent builds and I will leave the version with the 4.4 kernel only in the archive for those who urgently need it.

I understand your position but still think some "local" mirrors would be a big help. Maybe I should ask someone at AARNet...

Many.  I think the feature was suggested by someone in China.  Honestly the first time we've received negative feedback  on it.

I would still go on with the February release, we skipped last one, lets get this one done.

Am targeting 2022-01-29 (Saturday, 29 of January 2022) for release meeting, and then about 4 weeks later 2022-02-25 (Friday, 25 of February 2022) for actual release.
Release meeting earlier than 2022-01-25 is not possible from my calendar.

I would like to buy TWO (bundles of) HELIOS 64:
    - ONE to DONATE to the developers of ARMBIAN (my first priority).
    - the SECOND for me myself and I ;-) since I need a backup because my setting is a bit flaky.

Since I am an egoist - I would donate the device as soon as I am able to get hold of a second helios64
(I hope this increases the chances a little bit to get one.)
    - of course I would take over all costs to deliver it to the ARMBIAN devs.

    Thanks, Amix

    Ver 20211227-current kernel 5.16-rc6 for Station P2 (rk3568) and M2 (rk3566)

    Fixed LAN2. (Station P2 )
Fixed the reboot and shutdown of the Sd card.
Added support for the on/off button. Now, after switching off, you do not need to pull the power supply out of the mains, just press the button on the P2 case. Also, the operating system turns off when the button is pressed briefly.

Did you ever checked what Armbian do for you on their expense?

Consumers and HW vendor are always depending heavily on community, on our investment (which creates nothing but expenses). It is your problem that you believe in something that is complete fabrication, a fat lie if that term suits better. There are three sides in this game and two of them - consumers and HW vendor are abusing the 3rd. There is no magic in this. This is just how this business works.

Do you really think other players in this field are any better?

I can understand that you are disappointed.

But I think that Kobol had to pull the plug, in the context of the current chip shortage - with limited (sometimes even no) availability of components and SOCs and rising prices. That is not the right environment for a small start-up to grow. - it is a rather toxic environemnt that will lead to insolvency, as profitable growth is impossible to achieve. Without growth (no new/further products to offer) you are just faced with fixed costs and without income. Not sustainable at all.

All three of the founding members of Kobol deserve our full respect. They only drew a logical conclusion. Hopefully it can be reversed some time.

Hook up a serial console to get an idea what is happening inside after upgrade.
Userspace and kernel package are independent. All flavors (Focal, Buster, Bullseye, Hirsute...) of each board share the very same kernel package.

If you do not have a serial console and want to continue using this board you can do that or use armbian-config to freeze firmware packages. This will update userspace (so Buster) packages only.
