Hi I really doubt that a stick can decode H264 in hardware because USB2 is too slow to carry the result. For H265 my orangePI PC was able to display 4K recordings on my HD TV . This was with the Android OS

Visually silent power on / shutdown for Armbian - Possible?
Ford Prefect replied to bozden's topic in Beginners
Hi Yes HDMI is tricky and the way OS's try to deal with it too. I have a Windows 10 device connected to my TV each time I switch off the TV the sound of W10 goes back to analog and never comes back. -
Both for more than $10 seems to be the way to go

The last number indicates the number of zeroes to add to get the value in picofarads so: 101 means 100 pF 104 means 0.1µF or 100000 pF

Random thoughts, opinions and well known facts about PCB and heatsinks
Ford Prefect replied to hojnikb's topic in Off-topic
Hi Nice Box for sure. Main problem with such a solution is that when you want access to the hardware on a bench you have to use a temporary heat sink. I killed a DVD writer this way. Only later I noticed there was a thermal pad on the cover I removed -

Beware of the USB3 hub Ethernet combo. I tried one with very poor Ethernet performance. Hub seems OK but doesn't allow for external power supply. -

In my opinion it is much better to have the CPU on the solder side of the board. It allows efficient passive cooling in a metal box that can be necessary for EMC in the real world. -
Research Wi-Fi performance and known issues on SBC
Ford Prefect replied to tkaiser's topic in Reviews, Tutorials, Hardware hacks
Hi The channel used in the 2.4 GHz band is important. High speed WIFI modes are normally impossible on channels close to the band borders like 1 or 13 because the spectrum of the signal would be out of band. Depending on the drivers used on both sides this can lead to errors of interpretation. -
Hi Does this means that it could be possible to change the use of the GPIO pins "on the fly" I mean without rebooting.
-
Adding or improving passive cooling on any SBC is ALWAYS a good idea. It doesn't requires any technical knowledge. It can save you a lot of time.

Orange Pi One - what WiFi dongle you recommend? Or by Pi Lite?
Ford Prefect replied to abramq's topic in Allwinner sunxi
I have no experience of recent cheap WIFI dongles . An important point IMHO is to choose one that allows Access point and Blue Tooth operation. Using a long USB cable can also improve greatly their performance by placing them in a place where interference is low. -
Orange Pi Zero Wireless - It is usable IRL
Ford Prefect replied to aliceander's topic in Orange Pi Zero
Hi Using gqrx to decode FM stereo i found that it sometimes took about 1 minute to get a decent audio. It is a very CPU intensive process. During that time the CPU frequency varied a lot before stabilizing to maximum. This problem disappeared by switching to performance mode. May be it would be a good idea to do that for testing WLAN performance too. There are cases of interference caused by USB3 may be the CPU clock can interfere too. Is there a command that can fix the CPU frequency on the fly ? -
OK no problem . In fact as the new MAC address was already in my DHCP it means that at least another distribution uses the same way to choose it.
-
I believe that the real impedance of the chip input is very high. Thus the .1 µF cap doesn't cause low frequency loss and seen from the microphone connexions it is the bias resistors that determine the impedance. Those electret mikes are of low impedance because of the incorporated amplifiers. Here is the schematic I have:
-
Hi it seems it was following an update. It doesn't bother me in fact the new one had already been used probably with another distribution. But I wonder where are they stored ? or how are they guessed before : E6:7C:8E:9F:AC:D0 now : 7E:C3:14:57:E7:B1

Hi Although I agree with all that was said here I have something to say against Etcher: It install itself easily under Wxp without even asking for a location. But it doesn't work Moving it's huge directory on a NAS and running it with W10 64 bits without any installation seems OK.
-
Hi My English is not good either because I missed that it worked on your first message. I wouldn't bother too much about the message. May be a clever driver when asked an impossible thing does the closest match it can do.

Hi Not sure it's the right topic what about: Having the /lib/modules/ *.ko files in compressed form *.gz ? Having an initial .bash_history file with useful newbies commands like armbianmonitor -m , etc ? In fact I found by accident that some other orangePI distributions had some forgotten instructive things there. This gave me the idea

First Login via SSH: Password "1234" does not work
Ford Prefect replied to chpi's topic in Beginners
Hi It also doesn't work on my OrangePI PC neither with ssh or in a text console It doesn't bother me too much as I use Midnight Commander mainly and sudo mc makes me "master of the world " First I thought it was inherited from ubuntu that always want to forbid me to break my machine. In fact I think it is a bad idea as it even prevent from changing the unknown root password witch seems to be the basis of system security. -
Thanks In fact the card will be in most of the time it is so easy to loose them when not in use
-
Hi Am I right in assuming that in that configuration after boot it would be possible to remove the boot SD card to use the interface for other purpose ? I am thinking of moving armbian to an usb2 hard drive.
