1. Settings->Display is set to 1920x1080 but when TV is turned off then back on, it drops to 1280x720
2. Something odd going on, with resolution set to 1920x1080, Thunar and a few other apps goes to 1280x720. Any ideas? Logging out & in clears it up. I suspect the display default is set or detected at 1280x720 but I haven't managed to locate where that setting is at yet. update: turns out its the custom dpi setting from Settings->Appearance->Fonts that is causing it. Turn it off and everything seems fine.
3. https://github.com/iridium-browser/iridium-browser/releases iridium-browser-2019.04.73 just dropped which if I'm reading it correctly, is up to chromium 73.0.3683.103 Signs of life?
4. I might be wrong, but as I understand it when throttling the cpu frequencies should be limited to a lower level. From the screenshot, that doesn't happen. Am I missing something? What I see is compositing on -> no desktop icons (there are still there but invisible. Clicking on where they should be still works) compositing off -> icons appear normally
5. Yes, running with no extra cooling. Unless htop is lying to me, I've only seen cpu temps in the 80's so far. Yes I get the icons back if I turn off compositing but I've grown attached to my drop-shadows and transparency effects
6. Here are some benchmarks I ran on the TV boxes, baselined against an Intel J3355. Pinch of salt not included. sysbench cpu --cpu-max-prime=20000 run Events per sec s912: 196.90 rk3328: 256.93 s905: 303.61 rk3399: 703.67 j3355: 475.65 sysbench cpu --num-threads=<max cores> --cpu-max-prime=20000 run s912: 1896.08 /8: 237.01 rk3328: 1013.01 /4: 253.25 rk3399: 2482.69 /6: 413.78 j3355: 784.07 /2: 392.04
7. After media script turns out that modesetting without accel is the best for my desktop use, which is what I started out with stock. Oh well... ps. that's weird, with compositing no desktop icons update: after trying and failing to get the desktop icons back, decided to start from scratch, reimage the sdcard. Think I'll stick with the non-hw assisted desktop for now.
8. Ok then. Now are there any improvements if I go with the media testing scripts? The current desktop performance is already satisfactory to me.
9. I see. Next login after setting desktop to 1920x1080, I'm getting a black screen. Desktop only shows up after ctl-alt F1 then back to ctrl-alt F7
10. I take all comments under advisement and go thru each dtb and report back which ones boot Update: No dtb boots. Now when I go back to the working card, lightdm starts in 720p. After logging in can change to 1920x1080. Maybe it is this TV, I'll check with the other TV later.
11. Just received the Magicsee N6. Fired it up and WOW, the smoothest android I've seen so far. Let's run Armbian and see. update: Installed Armbian_5.77_Rk3399-tv_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.154_desktop_20190331 with rk3399-magicsee-n6-max.dtb Everything works except bluetooth, desktop nice and fluid Full-screen video smooth, cpu temp in the 80's Looking good so far let's try NEXT...no magicsee-n6-max.dtb in the image?
12. BM8 s912 2Gb meson-gxm-q200.dtb root@aml-bm8:~# uname -a Linux aml-bm8 5.1.0-rc1-aml-s905 #5.77 SMP PREEMPT Sun Apr 7 12:55:48 MSK 2019 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux update: T95Z Plus - s912 octacore 3gb ram
13. There is no local update option to select. Managed to get into recovery mode by poking the av hole to get to the option to update via sdcard. Now would you believe it, the sdcard slot is faulty. The is Update via adb option. Have to figure out how to do that I guess. Downloaded and installed a few update&backup apk. None of them seem to work properly, maybe android 7 is not meant for update&backup
14. Yup, tried that. It went straight online looking for updates.
15. Installed update&backup apk Give permission to app for storage Select aml zip from armbian usb drive Fail - Update&backup stopped My guess is apk version incorrect for android 7.1.2 or no permission to update u-boot
16. MXQ Pro 4k s905x If there is no Update&Backup in android, how else do you update u-boot?
17. sorry wrong post (this post). Is there a way to delete a post?
18. I see your point, and there doesn't seem to be a user forum anywhere. Pity cos its quick without all the google stuff. Oh well, I'll just keep using it on my x86 boxes until I can't anymore.
19. https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Panfrost-Gallium-Kodi-STK Panfrost coming?
20. OK, I see, it's from the ubuntu repos. Thanks
21. https://iridiumbrowser.de/ From the site: "Iridium Browser is based on the Chromium code base. All modifications enhance the privacy of the user and make sure that the latest and best secure technologies are used.Automatic transmission of partial queries, keywords and metrics to central services is prevented and only occurs with the approval of the user. In addition, all our builds are reproducible and modifications are auditable, setting the project ahead of other secure browser providers." Any chance of getting it in Armbian?
22. Thanks. As I understand it, per-ordering is via the forum. Went back to the shop to try and figure out what the bundle would look like and boy, it's complicated to navigate the site. I'm still none the wiser
23. Can't seem to find this in the shop. A link would be nice
24. Thanks for the recommendation. I am in no way a developer, just an interested tester and tinkerer. It just blows my mind that you can make a full blown desktop suitable for everyday use out of these cheap commodity TV boxes. Based on your glowing reports on the RK3399 I have sprung for a Magicsee N6 Max (~$82 on sale Aliexpress). I'll report on my adventures with it once it arrives
