I'm been trying to install Armbian on this TV.BOX console. I already test bookworm xfce image of Armbian as like the last XFCE image → Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.357_Aml-s9xx-box_noble_current_6.18.7_xfce_desktop I als test minimal images ad they don't work. The spces of console are : Processor (CPU)Amlogic S905X3 Quad-core ARM Cortex-A55, up to 1.91GHz Graphics (GPU)Mali-G31 MP2 RAM4GB DDR3 Storage (ROM)32GB eMMC Video OutputHDMI, supports up to 8K@24fps (Android system) and 1080p (EmuELEC system) Connectivity2.4G/5G Dual-band Wi-Fi, 10/1000M Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth 4.0 Ports1x USB 3.0, 4x USB 2.0, HDMI, Ethernet, DCIN (Power), TF card slot, AV output I test to boot the stock images just after download them and the boot shows the HK1Series and then goes to internal android system (tvbox) so failed. When I do the steps to put dtb file, edit extlinux.conf and rename properly u-bott to u-boot.ext (I search and test test many dtb files as like meson-sm1-hk1box-vontar-x3.dtb, meson-sm1-h96max-x3.dtb, sm1_s905x3_4g_1gbit.dtb, sm1_s905x3_4g.dtb as like others that I download on web when I search info about install armbian on s905x tv boxes). I also try to see if I can edit a .dts file and then convert to .dtb qhen I did It doesn't work. So none of steps above works. But I find one image system that works called devmfc that has only a minimal image similar to a server image only with tty text. https://github.com/devmfc/debian-on-amlogic/releases I inspect the .image of this system, and I find that if I copy the boot.scr, boot.script and cfgload to the /boot partiton of the armbian systems and boot the Sper Console it goes to a pink screen and then after a minute just reboot or goes to hkseries system. So I think if I can edit boot.scr, bootscript and cfgload maybe I can put the right data to force boot the real kernel of armbian. Maybe then armbian works. I use Linux and try to open those files with text editor but doesn't work. Anyone knows How I can edit this files ? Any user can boot armbian on this console TvBox ? Thanks.

Hi everybody, I just bought an X96 X6 TV box (8G/64G) to run Home Assistant. However it is not popular so there is no Armina for it. Home Assistant requires Debian 11/12 (linux kernel, no desktop version) to operate. Hope everyone can help me. Thank you very much. I only need 1 file *.img file to install Home Assistant, no need: USB, wifi, Bluetooth... because it can be difficult. Thank you very much!

Concerns before trying to boot Armbian from SD card on GS King-X
marfalk replied to marfalk's topic in Amlogic CPU Boxes
Thank you. I have managed to successfully boot Armbian from SD card. Android is preserved. Now I am trying to install (move) Armbian (the "/root" partition) to an external USB drive. I run "armbian-config", then I pick "System" --> "Storage", but no "Install" (Copy the running Armbian system to another device) option is listied (according to the documentation here). I get only the following items: Download a fresh, official Armbian OS image and write it to a device Enable read only filesystem Enable Network filesystem (NFS) support etc... I have tried also in Terminal: "armbian-config --cmd STO001" but I get an error. In the instructions for TV boxes here it says: "running the shell script in the /root directory: install-aml.sh" But it refers to installing (moving) Armbian to the internal eMMC, if I am not mistaken. Is it possible to install it either to an external USB HDD or internal SATA HDD? -
Please read the FAQ and installation instructions linked on the download page. https://www.armbian.com/amlogic-s9xx-tv-box/

Armbian now has a community supported build target for amlogic TV Boxes (aml-s9xx-box). You can now build your own builds directly with the Armbian build system. This is now an opportunity for members of the community to move the support for amlogic TV boxes forward within the Armbian framework. If you are not familiar with the Armbian build system check out the Armbian developer documentation. If you have idea on how you would like to see things evolve/change please use this forum to share your thoughts and ideas and submit PRs for any code changes you would like to see. I am currently testing this code against the four different amlogic based boxes I own, but would appreciate others testing as well. Once I have completed my testing, I will be updating the FAQ amlogic install instructions with this information.

Thank you for the support. I made a short break tinkering with the tv box, but recently I did try installing to emmc, using the install-aml.sh script. Everything working as expected. I should have been more careful in the first place. It was a good lesson anyway. Tnx

Hello. I have easily managed to get armbian up and running of a usb stick, in fact everything worked perfect (hdmi, wifi, gbit ethernet, etc.). The tv box is h96-air-gbit (as the dtb is named), amlogic s905x3 soc, 32gb mmc, 4gb RAM, gigabit ethernet, 2xusb 2.0, 1xusb 3.0, sd card, hdmi, av port (reset button inside), spdif. The thing is, I wanted to benefit from the 32gb internal mmc storage, since I was running armbian from a 8gb usb stick (had a lot of those hanging around, and didn't want to buy a bigger one). I did notice the image I used had not armbian-install script, nor nand-sata-install. I did a manual install (snapshot copy) of my current system with the help of Claude.ai 1. step - create an setup another partition on the emmc (currently there were 2x 4M partitions - the bootloader I presume) sudo fdisk /dev/mmcblk1 sudo mkfs.ext4 -L ARMBIAN_ROOT /dev/mmcblk1p1 Note: Doing this seems enough reasonable to me (well, to my limited knowledge), no overwriting should have happened 2. step - snapshot copy the OS sudo mkdir -p /mnt/emmc sudo mount /dev/mmcblk1p1 /mnt/emmc sudo rsync -aAXv --exclude={"/dev/*","/proc/*","/sys/*","/tmp/*","/run/*","/mnt/*","/media/*","/lost+found"} / /mnt/emmc/ Note: This also seems alright, and the commands exited with no errors 3. step - update the extlinux.conf, the cmdline to point to the right UUID - the one from the emmc sudo blkid /dev/mmcblk1p1 sudo nano /mnt/emmc/boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf 4. step - just confirm everything is set, and shutdown, disconnect power and reconnect cat /mnt/emmc/boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf sync sudo umount /mnt/emmc Note: Everything seemed fine and correct. So after the whole process, I shut it down, removed the usb and booted. It didn't come online after a while, so I rebooted with hdmi connected (I did face some issues before, like unusally slow boot times in headless mode). It just never turned on. The logo was gone, so I figured something went quite wrong. Currently, the situation is the following: I reopened the board to connect uart for diagnostics. So The board without external storage (usb, sd card) doesn't boot, it does a certain sequence, but fails and just hangs (no reboot loop). If I have an external usb, the one which worked before (correct setup), it reboots in loop - it does try to boot from the usb, but fails. Chatgpt suggests that I probably overwrote some portions of the bootloader or firmware files on which armbian relied (some or most of the env vars are probably gone). Claude has a similar suggestion (FDT_BAD_MAGIC, get partition table from dts faild - the bootloader is messed up). I did try booting from usb and from sd - forcing multi boot (reset button), but that's definitely not the issue. The bootloader seems to be working up to a certain point - but booting from usb or sd produce the same error - last few lines of the log, right before the reboot (and it reboots indefinitely in loop): Device: SDIO Port B Manufacturer ID: fe OEM: 3456 Name: ASTCTran Speed: 50000000 Rd Block Len: 512 SD version 3.0 High Capacity: Yes Capacity: 7.3 GiB mmc clock: 40000000 Bus Width: 4-bit Device: SDIO Port B Manufacturer ID: fe OEM: 3456 Name: ASTCTran Speed: 50000000 Rd Block Len: 512 SD version 3.0 High Capacity: Yes Capacity: 7.3 GiB mmc clock: 40000000 Bus Width: 4-bit reading aml_autoscript 800 bytes read in 11 ms (70.3 KiB/s) ## Executing script at 01080000 ## Error: "bootfromsd" not defined get partition info failed !! reboot use default mode: normal bl31 reboot reason: 0xd bl31 reboot reason: 0x1 system cmd 1. Since, the aml_autoscript should definitely be working, the bootloader is the most probable issue. So, what Claude suggests is to flash s905x3 compatible u-boot. I managed to get the board in usb burn mode by mask rom (toothpick reset method didn't work). Currently I have the board plugged to pc (usb male to male) and uart connected (improvised RP2040 zero uart bridge). Please provide me with instructions and what to do. I soft bricked the board by following plausible instructions from ai, I don't want to hard brick it (I really liked it:) Also, I keep the board connected, since I don't know if I could reintroduce mask rom mode if turned off. Here is the complete log of one of the infinite reboots from the loop: SM1:BL:511f6b:81ca2f;FEAT:A0F83180:20282000;POC:F;RCY:0; EMMC:0; READ:0;0.0;CHK:0; bl2_stage_init 0x01 bl2_stage_init 0x81 hw id: 0x0001 - pwm id 0x00 bl2_stage_init 0xc0 bl2_stage_init 0x02 L0:00000000 L1:00000703 L2:00008067 L3:15000020 S1:00000000 B2:20282000 B1:a0f83180 TE: 146487 BL2 Built : 15:21:48, Aug 28 2019. g12a g1bf2b53 - luan.yuan@droid15-sz Board ID = 1 Set cpu clk to 24M Set clk81 to 24M Use GP1_pll as DSU clk. Hi everyone, I’m experiencing a recurring and very specific issue with my TX2 TV Box, with the following specifications: SoC: Rockchip RK3229 RAM: 2GB DDR3 Storage: NAND flash (not eMMC!) Board: Generic TX2 board 🛑 Main Issue The system shuts down abruptly at exactly 29 minutes and 47 seconds of uptime (i monitoring via htop). It always shuts down at this time. It’s not a clean shutdown or reboot — it behaves as if the power was cut off. No meaningful logs appear in journalctl or dmesg, and the shutdown is instantaneous and silent. 🧪 What I’ve Tried: Disabled idle and sleep functions: Masked systemd-logind Set IdleActionSec=0 and HandlePowerKey=ignore Tried different kernel versions: Legacy: Armbian 22.02.0-trunk Focal legacy 4.4.194 Mainline: Armbian Jammy kernel 5.15 Attempted to disable the watchdog: Boot parameter nowatchdog Kernel parameter rcu_cpu_stall_timeout=0 Created a systemd service to periodically write to /dev/watchdog Tried to remove dw_wdt module (modprobe -r), but it either auto-loads or refuses to unload (watchdog did not stop) Tried building a custom kernel with CONFIG_DW_WATCHDOG=n, but the process failed due to gcc-arm-linux-gnueabi toolchain issues. Used config-rk322x to properly set RAM, NAND, and Wi-Fi chip before first boot + update/upgrade. Tried adding sudo systemctl mask sleep.target suspend.target hibernate.target hybrid-sleep.target ⚠️ Additional Critical Note: The system does not work at all when flashed to eMMC/flash — only boots properly from NAND or SD card. Any image written to internal flash does not boot. Therefore, booting from NAND is required, which may be related to the watchdog being active by default on NAND-based boards. ❓ My Question: Has anyone with a TX2 or RK3229-based NAND board experienced this same issue? Is this a known watchdog timer issue on NAND models? Is there any stable image or device tree overlay known to work for this configuration? Any tips to fully disable the watchdog either via software or kernel patch? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

So.... I am the winner of a Inovato Quadra4K from a drawing at my amateur radio club meeting. Yeah! Cool! It runs a software called HamClock automagically.... BUT WAIT! There is MORE! You can exit that app and run other applications... Providing you have a mouse & keyboard (because I am a native WinWeenie) or keyboard if you are a Linux forever personage. It also has a wireless interface that I would like to configure so it doesn't have to have an Ethernet tail tied to a port on our ISP router. I would rather it was mounted to a HDMI TV or monitor. So, I need the keyboard (and because I am a longtime WinWeenie and rodent dependent) mouse to reconfigure it. I would like to have it use a USB Logitech Unifier Nano dongle with wireless keyboard/mouse. By the way, the brilliant man that came up with this computer is trudging the same path I am, fighting cancer. His fight has gotten so tough he has shut down his company. I hope he gets better. Is there already a compiled binary for this with directions,,. or do I have to master the dark arts of programming routines, subroutines, interrupts, memory fetches, writes, threads and all that then compile it into something the machine understands? Please understand I didn't even take typing in high school, so college was a real bear.... When I was in high school Jobs and Wozniak were still dumpster diving behind Xerox-Park Corporation and Radio Shack. Any takers on this one? Thanks in advance, Dave, The-Other-One

Dear All, First I would like to thanks all the contributors to armbian, What a great OS for our small SBC ! Context: I run succesfully latest Armbian on a X9T 4K TV Box (amlogic s912) from SD Card 2GB (following instructions here The Problem: I would like to run armbian from emmc (16GB on this box) for better reliability and performance. So, I run the install-aml.sh script, I had some error (no boot.ini ...), but the process seems to finish successfully Next Reboot: It's seems my boot partition is Not OK ... something missing ... Hello. I have this MX10 Box S android TV box, it works well with the latest Armbian community build (Armbian_community_25.8.0-trunk.309_Rk322x-box_bookworm_current_6.12.35_minimal.img). However, I have this specific binary that is 64bit that I would like to run on my box and this build of armbian is 32bit only. Is there a 64bit build of armbian for rk322x anywhere? Thanks!

I have installed Armbian community images several times on different tv boxes that have an Amlogic S905x3, and usually there was no sound ♫. I wanted to get sound out of the tv box. So, I purchased a generic USB sound card audio dongle from Aliexpress for about $2 to $3 USD. (see attached photo). The USB audio device is described in Linux as a Texas Instruments PCM2902 Audio Codec (USB PnP Sound Device device 0 USB Audio), and when you run the command lsusb you will see the id numbers 08bb:2902. However, the specific hardware chip in the device that you receive may be different. I updated the databases for repositories by running sudo apt update -y and installed necessary packages to support the USB audio device and to use a graphical desktop such as XFCE4, for example: sudo apt install -y smplayer alsa-base alsa-oss alsa-tools alsa-utils alsamixergui pulseaudio pavucontrol pavumeter You can use smplayer or vlc or another as long as it is modern media player or audio player. Now make a backup copy of these two text files /etc/modules and /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and save the backup copies in your home directory. Without quotes, edit the text file /etc/modules and write “snd-usb-audio” at the end of the file. Also, edit the text file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and change a few things. Put a hash # symbol in front of every “options snd-usb-audio index=-2” that you see in the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf . I found two of them. Add these two lines of text to the bottom of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf without quotes. "alias snd-card-0 snd-usb-audio" "options snd-usb-audio index=0" Make sure that your user is in the 'audio' group. Run the usermod command against a regular user (not root) that you want to use often. And reboot. sudo usermod -a G audio {username here} sudo reboot Login to the graphical desktop, open the volume control program by clicking on the panel Applications, Multimedia, PulseAudio Volume Control. Click the Configuration tab at the far right of the volume control program and change the profile to Analog Stereo. * Important – now connect a headset, earphone, or amplifier to the 3.5mm (⅛’’) 🎧 headphone receptacle on the USB audio dongle and play some sounds, music or youtube. You can use wav audio files in the directory /usr/share/sounds/alsa/ if you don't have an internet connection.

Android TV Stick (iK316-H16430)
Muhammad Hanis Irfan Mohd Zaid posted a topic in Allwinner CPU Boxes
I've got this Android TV stick: https://shopee.com.my/RUBY-Smart-TV-24-Inch-Android-TV-Murah-TV-32-Inch-WiFi-4K-HDR-LED-Television-WiFi-Youtube-Netfli-i.1246310125.27851733843 Tried to run a progressive web app (PWA) and just learned that PWA is not supported by Android TV OS. I've found that since it's just a SBC, I can install any other OS on it and stumbled upon Armbian. Since I'm new, I would like to know what images is supported with this board and any related guides to install it. This board has 1 full HDMI port, 1 USB type A port for data, and 1 USB type C port for power only (this is just my assumption). No SD card slot. I just need it to be able to run a modern and latest browser to run the PWA. Thanks for all the help 😀 -
Have you tried the install instructions and build from here: https://www.armbian.com/amlogic-s9xx-tv-box/
