  1. Hello On my Banana PI infrared receiver is not detected at bootup. I'm running armbian 4.7 jessie. The only /dev/input device is that of axp20x-pekj, which I undestand to be a power controller. My issue is similar as found in this thread: http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/475-bananapi-r1-no-infrared-device/ Except ofcourse the board is different From the other thread I gather I need to change something in regards to dtb-s, but I guess as the boards are different using the same one as mentioned is not a good idea.
  2. Hi, First time user here. I'm using the legacy Jessie build with kernel 3.4.109 Kernel. OTG is enabled and generally working. However, with some USB devices we are getting the following message with dmesg: WRN:L2705(drivers/usb/sunxi_usb/hcd/core/sw_hcd_host.c):ERR: sw_hcd_schedule, best_end [ 663.633167] WRN:L2951(drivers/usb/sunxi_usb/hcd/core/sw_hcd_host.c):ERR: sw_hcd_schedule failed [ 663.641968] cannot submit datapipe for urb 0, error -28: not enough bandwidth This only happens with some USB devices. My USB headphones work fine but a USB DAC for music does not. I remember reading somewhere the OTG on the BananaPi seemed limited in terms of actual connection speeds. Are there any specific restrictions on the OTG? Any ideas how to solve the issue? Thanks, Nuno

Before installing this Armbian legacy kernel (3.4.109), I was using a Bananian-based image with OpenMediaVault (the so called BanaNAS image) and was getting regular 30MB/s transfer rates to my Samba shared hard drives (USB and SATA). My PC and Banana are connected through a gigabit switch, and working at 1Gbps. After installing and configuring the new Armbian image, I notice my transfer rates were now around ~23MB/s which was odd. After trying to change some smb.conf parameters and getting nowhere, I decided to test just the network performance by setting up a simple web server on my PC and doing a wget -O /dev/null http://<my PC-IP>/test.zip of 3Gb. The values were the same. Testing on another PC and Chrome, I got 40MB/s. So clearly my PC was fine but the Banana wasn't. Today I burned and installed 4 OS images and repeated the test above. I did it right after the initial boot ended without any further updates: - OpenMediaVault-Bananian 3.4.104: 36.6MB/s - Bananian 15.08: 36.7MB/s - Armbian legacy: 25.9MB/s - Armbian vanilla: 35MB/s Clearly there is something wrong with this image. However, I have no idea on what to do to find out how to fix it. Are there any configuration I can look up on the Bananian image and compare to yours? Thanks!
  4. I just installed 4.2.3-sunxi on my Banana Pi (original model.) Everything seems to work nicely except the console mouse (gpm.) I run keyboard and mouse on a "GreenAsia Inc. USB to PS/2 Adapter" and have never had a problem with that setup, including Raspberry Pi and Bananian on the BPi. Both keyboard and mouse work under X but on the console only the keyboard works. However I can start gpm by hand with /usr/sbin/gpm -m /dev/input/by-id/usb-GASIA_PS2toUSB_Adapter-if01-event-mouse -t evdev That works. Linking that device file to /dev/input/mice allows the gpm service to start but it doesn't work (mouse movement has no effect.) That is fixed if I set type=evdev in /etc/gpm.conf and everything works. I never had to jump through so many hoops - something is missing but I don't know what.
  5. I recently created some new images using the most recent armbian scripts. For some reason my Jessie image is not coming up (see my other thread regarding network not coming up), but I did managed to get a wheezy image up and running on my BananaPi using latest / next. The problem I am having is the partition size is extremely small (about 500-600MB) and does not appear to be resize to fully utilize the SD card. It's been a long while since I created an image, but I vaguely remember the image resizing to maximize the SD card space. I basically had to manually resize the image by deleting and recreating the partition. Is there some way to specify the image size to create or to force resizing on first boot? Thanks.

  7. Hello, I am setting up a filserver, using a BPi and a WD Red 3TB connected to the sata port of the BPi. The BPi runs armbian v4.5 with vanilla kernel. For the first tuning I used the recommandations from tkaiser (thanks a lot for that). Which parameter in the linux configuration is responsible for that? After the first run I increased the TCP window size in iperf manually which results in much better bandwidth.   8. Hi all, I run a BPi with Armbian 4.2 - kernel 4.2.2. A WD Red 3TB is connected via sata. I have tested hdd performance which seems to be very slow (for my opinion). Auto Mode Using Minimum Record Size 512 KB Using Maximum Record Size 8192 KB File size set to 2048000 KB Using maximum file size of 2048000 kilobytes. Command line used: iozone -a -y 512k -q 1024K -s 2000m -g 2000m -i 0 -i1 Output is in Kbytes/sec Time Resolution = 0.000001 seconds. Processor cache size set to 1024 Kbytes. Processor cache line size set to 32 bytes. File stride size set to 17 * record size. KB reclen write rewrite read reread 2048000 512 10097 10482 20809 21397 2048000 1024 10570 9597 20533 20977 What could be the problem? Best regards, Michael
  9. I created a Jessie image for BananaPi with the latest / next kernel, and when booting the image, it get's stuck on "A start job is running for LSB: Raise network interfaces". It never seems to complete raising the interface, and since there is no time limit, this goes on forever. Creating a Wheezy image seems to work fine (also using latest / next kernel). Any suggestions on how I can get the Jessie image up and running? Thanks.
  10. Dear Igor, I made a custom 4.1 kernel with your script, where a staging driver (mn88472) is included. I'am trying to use an Astrometa DVB stick with mn88472 demodulator, but it's not working. Everything seems fine, no errors, every module loaded, firmware is in it's place. If I run wscan, it goes through every frequency, but it doesn't find any channel. The most weird thing is that two or three times it worked, but I don't know why, and I am not able to reproduce it. (I am using DVB-C so it's sure that the signal is fine) I investigated the source code of the mn88472 module, and as I see, I should get a notice about the firmware load status. An error message or something about the successfully loading, and this message is completely missing. So I followed the steps about debugging firmware related things described here, but after applying "udevadm monitor --property", I don't get any udev event which contains "ACTION=add" and "SUBSYSTEM=firmware". Is there any way to force loading firmware onto an usb device? If yes, how can I do that? Thank you for your help, and your cool kernels! Gyuri ps: I already tried changing rc poll time as described here, but it not helps. I've got similar i2c reg read/write failures, but compering to ubuntu PC configuration, it's almost the same. The only difference between the PC or Banana system is the lack of the firmware message on the banana. I tried feeding the device from external power too -just for sure- but I got the same i2c errors, and no firmware downloading.

Hi all, i was installing Igor's images with jessie, they are good, but i had issue that /tmp was not mounted on tmpfs , so if somebody interested... here is my solution: in file /etc/default/tmpfs lowering a little bit TMP_SIZE uncommented yes: RAMTMP=yes and then: systemctl enable tmp.mount and reboot Kind regards,

Hi all, i'm trying compile 3.4.*, i used normal way - i downloaded scripts to manage it, i'm successful with compilation but my issue is that i want to connect relay to banana pi J12 (DIP8) pin 5 which should be PH3 on A20 and that relay should be connected in parallel to switch button on PC ... so it means each switch (even fast) of the level can start turn off pc :-( so my issue is that uboot default configs for banana pi is having irrelevant configuration of pins that are prepared on connectors to be used as GPIO ... for example PH3 and PH5 at banana pi's J12 are not related to VBUS of USB as it's written in configs and fex, please somebody could take care of GPIO pins that are not connected with other chip on board but only on header connectors ? so i hope that somebody will fix my issue by fixing correctness of configs for banana pi ...   14. Hello, sorry for my very bad english. I have installd the desktopimage for the bananapi m1. It works. But same programms does work because the autmatic login user is root. So exaile, chromium-browser does start. Synatipc starts from the gui after starting the AT-bus programm (see menu starting programms) Tunar needs to install the gvfs-backend, then you can see the computers in the network. To change the language in the gui you need to install the language-pack-de (for german). I have also a cubitruck and thin this problems also in the image for the cubietruck. The first problems can solved when the automic user is not root. The other when the packeges are in the images. Also the is the near the best images for the bananpi.   15. Hi Igor, hi all, I use a BPi M1 and today I tested Igor's debian wheezy 4.1.2 image. It works really great. Thanks a lot. As mentioned in the FAQ I had a look at /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils. As written there it is possible to change the frequencies. The possible values are stored in "scaling_available_frequencies". The default value for "max_speed" in Igor's image is "max_speed=1010000". But this value ist not available inside "scaling_available_frequencies". "cpufreq-info -m" tells the current policy: frequency shoukd be within 480-960 MHz. 960 MHz is the maximum value in "scaling_available_frequencies". Normally BPi is able to run at 1008 MHz. How can I change the values inside "scaling_available_frequencies"? Is there a reason why the govenor "interactive" ist choosen? Thanks a lot. Best regards, Michael
  16. Hi, after some hours of not using the banana, it seems the system is dead. I cannot log in with a terminal. I cannot bring back the black screen to the console (i am using only the console) with a connected mouse and keyboard. All I can do is a reset. This is horrable, beccause the deamons in background should capture same data. Maybe is it an energie saver? How can I switch off them? Or how can I examine, what was happens? Thanx, Timbers

I have installed the IMG Debian Wheezy With kernel 3.4.x, when income Rpi monitoring tells me I have 11 upgradeable packages, but if I run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade returns me that there is nothing to update. Moreover Igor saw yesterday published an update, it is possible to upgrade without reinstalling everything? The problem that I have and which I intend to upgrade is that once a day or once every two days or ethernet banana itself hangs and can not access until I restart the banana pi.   19. The page for the Banana Pi image says: "Known bugs or limitations Latest 3.4.107 image have some stability issues. Build from sources or wait for update." I have some questions about this: - What kind of stability issues should I expect? I am seeing some network problems currently, however a lot of hardware in my network was replaced recently so I'm not sure if the banana pi is the source of these problems. The banana pi never locks up/show kernel oops/etc. - How would building from source help? I would expect to get the same image with the same problems. - When can I expect a new image to be available? Is it enough to download an old kernel from the archive? Or is the some way to download old images as well? Thank you very much!

  21. Hello, I'm using a BananaPi and just tried the latest version (10.6.2015, Linux 4.0.5) of your great distribution. Unfortunately, support for ath9k_htc based USB Wifi adapters seems to be missing, which is crucial for me. (ath9k_htc works great using free and open source firmware.) Could you please add support for this kind of hardware for future releases or give me a hint how I could add support to your existing images? Thank you and kind regards, LINMOB
  22. Hey kids, it is me, again! So, this time I found out (well, you maybe knew it before and I am dumbing around again) that voltage control does not work on Banana Pi (at least) mainline kernel. Well, if I am supposed to change it in linux-mainline/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun7i-a20.dtsi. I tried to reach 1248000kHz, which is, of course, unstable. So I was adding and adding voltage, until I was too afraid to continue (1650000mV ). But BananaPi was unstable the same way (freez after few minutes of FTP transfer), no more (bad charger) or no less (would still need more voltage). So after few hours of re-compiling source and listening wonderful music I tried this: 1248000(kHz)@800000(mV), which is big overclock and 100000(mV) less than default voltage for lowest available frequency (144000kHz). But again, few minutes of FTP was possible. That should not be possible with 1248000(kHz)@800000(mV) [default max is 960000(kHz)@1400000(mV)]. I do not think that this would be able to boot to X. Maybe I need to enable changing voltage somewhere, maybe it is not possible, I do not know. I only know that I am compiling/installing this the right way, because changed frequency in source file appears in scaling_available_freq later in running kernel. I am sure that changing this voltage value does not have any effect. Maybe I need to change some other value to enable voltage customization?

  24. Hi, I've installed Debian Wheezy with 4.0.5 kernel on my BPI and connected an 1To hd with sata. When i try to mount it, i get : "mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda1, missing codepage or helper program" I can mount it on my other server ubuntu 14.04 LTS with no error. Do you have an idea why i can not mount it on BPI ? Maybe it's due to the Guid Partition Table ? Tks Nerek
  25. Your kernel does not appear to be compiled with support for unprivileged user namespaces (CONFIG_USER_NS=y), or something else is preventing creation of user namespaces. This feature is critical for sandboxing. Arch Linux is known to ship with a kernel that disables this feature; if you are using Arch, you will unfortunately need to compile your own kernel (see https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/36969).If you are not using Arch, and don't know why your system wouldn't have user namespaces, please file a bug against Sandstorm so we can figure out what happened. .....anyone? Thanks! (going to try compiling now, but figured I'd ask...)
