  1. Hello everyone, Looks like i have some issue after last upgrade. I'm using a Banana Pi Pro as a file server at home (with samba mainly). The system is some kind of freezing after a few hours : i'm watching a movie and cannot go to the end of it. The system disappears from the network : no more access via samba/windows network, no more ssh, no more ping... Fortunately i am logging remotly so i can see that the system is still working somehow because it goes on sending syslogs. Last syslog is (the system "froze" at 20:10) : Feb 7 20:02:01 localhost CRON[3118]: (root) CMD ( cd / && run-parts --report /etc/cron.hourly) Feb 7 20:05:01 localhost CRON[3149]: (root) CMD (command -v debian-sa1 > /dev/null && debian-sa1 1 1) Feb 7 20:15:01 localhost CRON[3203]: (root) CMD (command -v debian-sa1 > /dev/null && debian-sa1 1 1) Feb 7 20:16:09 localhost systemd[1]: systemd-logind.service: Watchdog timeout (limit 3min)! 4. Hello, I'm a bit confused about the documentation, to be precise the hardware notes > Allwinner Generic > reconfigure video output part. It lists various options regarding video output. Then it states Now I see, inside boot, a "armbianEnv.txt" and the mentioned "boot.cmd". However, the default boot.cmd doesn't contain a saveenv line. Also, the head of the boot.cmd clearly states Can someone lighten me up on the relationship between the files armbianEnv.txt and boot.cmd, and why I should/shouldn't edit boot.cmd? I'm running the mainline kernel on a Banani Pi Pro, if this is relevant. Thanks in advance
  5. I have read through the forum that Banana Pi Pro does not support directly powering drive over USB as it might be too much for this board. In my setup I use 2 A power adapter for my Banana Pi and an active HUB with power supply of 1 A, but with limit of 500 mA for HDD. Still, when connecting HUB to Banana Pi and HDD to HUB the same issue appears as when no HUB is used - the red diode turns off and Banana Pi looses power. I have already tried several HDDs (500 GB, 320 GB, 2 TB) - all with the same result. Anyone has some idea why this might be occuring despite powering drives from external source? Does Armbian have any software limitations that are creating this issue? Also, may it be more beneficial to plug HDD using SATA? Does the rule of external power supply also apply in this case?
  6. Sometimes i can't access to my banana thru ssh and etc. Link led is blinking. It happens everytime in HH:16:00 with random hour. In syslog i get this messages: i don't understand what is this... Everytime syslog messages are same

  8. Hi, I've not much experience on linux, so I want to ask some questions I don't find enough or helpful information getting an overview how things work. Not really an concrete question. My goal is to run an 10.1 LVDS Display with silent boot and CAN-Bus on an BananaPi Pro. The SoC Allwinner A20 seems to support this, the board has an connector for this kind of Display. After flashing an SD with the image for BananaPi Pro and successfully booting from it, I read the Armbian Documentation. But I don't getting an overview, how the boot and configuration of u-Boot works. After "googleing" I understand the boot-process like this: Armbian seems to use U-Boot as Bootloader. The Bootloader is started by the Firmware of the SoC. The Bootloader takes the zImage (Linux Kernel Image) AND an DeviceTreeBlob (.dtb) file to get hardware info and Kernel together and starts the System up - device tree (DT) principle for ARM devices. For this there must be an "zImage" AND an "*.dtb" file in /boot. But direcly in this directory I just find the first one, the image. I've downloaded the SD-Image exactly for the BananaPiPro, so I wonder, where U-Boot gets the information about the DeviceTree, if not in /boot. Another question is: Where is the U-Boot configuration file? The boot.cmd? (I don't find an file like "uboot.cfg", which would be self-explaining). In the Armbian documentation (Hardware_Allwinner) is mentioned a "CONFIG_VIDEO_LCD_MODE" for "Kconfig", but no info, what this means. I found out, this seems to be an generic config-file, everywhere in Linux context. If I google this config string, I find the sunxi doc.( http://linux-sunxi.org/LCD ) But there too, I don't understand, where to set. It is in the Kernelmodul, must it be get compiled new, or is it just an configfile? If so, where to find? Is armbianEnv.txt the U-Boot config file - or just for DeviceTree? When it gets read and it takes effect? Somebody will know what the documentations mean and has an overview. It would be very nice to write some explainations, not just me would be grateful. Or just tell me, what you think I need to get of knowledge. Greetings Pepsifan
  9. Hello Igor! Please help. What am I doing wrong? My device: LeMaker BananaPiPro (black board with yellow GPIO). http://www.armbian.com/banana-pi-pro/ Your build: Debian jessie Legacy Kernel 3.4.109 uname -a Linux bananapi 3.4.109-banana #5 SMP PREEMPT Wed Sep 30 14:20:25 CEST 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux I need the following: 1. Sound from HDMI (bananapipro connect to my tv) The items 1, 2 and 4 - No problem. The item 3 - Very poor quality video. What has been done: http://linux-sunxi.org/Mali_binary_driver http://wiki.lemaker.org/BananaPro/Pi:GPU I see a smoothed triangle. The console were tell me which renderer is being used: ... Please any help! P.S.: If insert Android-sdcard to my device then on-line video is good. I apologize for my English.
  10. Hello, I run Debian/Jessie on a bananapi pro. The board suddenly stopped working completely. When I plug the power supply, the red led shows up (not blinking) and nothing more, no sign of activity at all, like on screen (hdmi). It is very surprising as it has been running very well for two years now, with a 5V/3A power supply and a sandisk SD card (like those advised). I checked that the sd card runs well on my laptop, the filesystem was not broken and no sign of corruption so far, especially in the /boot directory, no changes made lastly in this directory : latest modification dater are a few months ago. EDIT: I decided to completely reinstall debian/jessie on the sdcard, following the guidelines, checking the image and burning integrity. Same symptoms. I also tried to boot with two other power supplies with only the board, nothing connected on usb or sata ports, no sign of activity at all except the red led. I sometimes had troubles with debian updates, but in this case the hdmi screen is working and I can debug. Also, I looked into the system logs (on the sd card), no sign of dysfunctioning at all, I just now more or less the last time it booted properly. The AC power supply is itself plugged on a lightning protector socket. So I doubt it is the power supply or the sdcard in itself that is causing the issue. The only change I made lastly is to plug a 2.5" hard drive (wd red) on one usb port, in addition to the one plugged on the sata port. Could this be the cause ? Thanks in advance for your help Regards
  11. Hi, i switched from Bananian Linux to Armbian xenial due to reaching its "end of life". Everything is working except it wont power off the system after a shutdown neither will it reboot properly. Hope someone could help me?
  12. [EDIT: The solution to this was realizing I'd been handed Banana Pi's (which have no WiFi), not Banana Pro's (which do have WiFi). I wasted a few days on this.] Hey guys, I'm sure you're sick of hearing this, but I have no WiFi with latest Banana Pi Pro image. No errors in dmesg, lsmod shows "brcmfmac" is present, but no device in iwconfig.
  13. I'm having trouble getting the RaZberry zwave extension board working in Armbian 5.31 with the mainline kernel. Previously on Bananian I just symlinked ttyS2 to ttyUSB99 and I was able to use the RaZberry with OpenZwave. But now, I have no idea how to get it working. I guess it has got something to do with overlays for the kernel but I haven't been able to find out exactly sifting thru the internet... Help very much appreciated.
  14. Hey there,I am having trouble with SPI on my Banana Pro. I am trying to access the SPI interface via WiringPI (the Lemaker Banana Pro version). But whenever I try to access it, it tells me: Unable to open SPI device: No such file or directory The message is correct, as there are no /dev/spi* files present. The question is: How do I get them?(according to http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort#Status_Matrix it should be available since 3.15)For the 3.4.x, one had to load modules (spidev, etc.) but this doesn't seem to work for 4.9.x. There is a 'spidev' module which loads fine (according to lsmod) but with no recognizable outcome. Is there anything special I have to load/enable/etc.? Unformtunately I didn't find anything usefull on the web regarding this topic. Which either means, it is working for everyone else or I do not know what to look for. :-(Any help is appriciated! This is my welcome string with OS and kernel version: Welcome to ARMBIAN 5.25 stable Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 4.9.12-sunxi PS: This is a cross-post from the Lemaker forum - no answer over there so far, however. -------- Thanks to zador.blood.stained I was able to enable SPI/SPIDEV for the mainline kernel (4.10.). For people with the same problem: This post contains a working device tree blob file (.dtb) which needs to be put into /boot/dtb folder. Additionally, an overlays=bananapro needs to be added to /boot/armbianEnv.txt Post containing compiled device tree blob

  16. I was hoping I could find some information as to why linux-jessie-root-next-bananapipro was being held on my BPi Pro system. The kernel and u-boot packages have been upgraded. I've held back on updating linux-jessie-root-next-bananapipro because I'm concerned it would break something. Is there some log file I should look at or some documentation somewhere?
  17. Updated my bananapi pro to from 5.30 minutes ago...but now it doesnt boot ;-( Any possibility to get my system back without setting up completely new? Never had this with all update before.....

  20. Greetings, all! I've got a LeMaker A20 BananaPro, on which I'm using the Armbian mainline distribution (for a more complete description of my setup, please see below). I'm using a serial console to the board; I'm not connecting anything to HDMI for display. I'm running the distribution off of a brand new 8Gig SanDisk Extreme Pro. I would like to use alsa (at least in part) in the audio stack. I'm experiencing the following: When I have no audio playing through the audio out jack, I get a loud (powerline, probably) hum on my speakers. When I start audio playback (a wav through aplay, or an mp3 through mpd, etc.) the hum disappears, and the sound quality is fine. If I pause or stop playback, the hum resumes roughly seven seconds after the audio stops. The pause between the audio stopping and the hum seems consistant. I have found in my research a similar problem people have been having with Ubuntu: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-general-1/buzzing-sound-from-speakers-only-when-no-sound-is-playing-ubuntu-kk-790610/ ...which seems to be due to a power saving feature of the driver, but I can't find any reference to a similar feature for the sun4i_codec module. Can anyone offer assistance? I'm not sure what to try next. I'm very happy to test things, try things, etc. Thanks! -Paul Various configuration details below. 21. Hello, actually i have "Bananian" with the kernel "3.4.113-bananian", and I would like to switch to the Armbian mainline kernel! My problem / question is how does it work with the GPIO in the mainline kernel? I use these commands under the legacy kernel... (I use the modified WiringPI from LeMaker) echo "17" > /sys/class/gpio/export echo "out" > /sys/class/gpio/gpio17/direction echo "1" > /sys/class/gpio17/value But these unfortunately no longer work under the mainline kernel! I don't understand how i calculate now the right GPIO Pin. (http://linux-sunxi.org/GPIO#Accessing_the_GPIO_pins_through_sysfs_with_mainline_kernel) I look forward to your help! Greeting, Marcel
  22. I've got a BPi Pro with a PMP as a sort of backup box. It appears to be running find so far and I'm not running RAID of any sort on it as I've had issues with that an PMPs on other platforms. The question I have is dmesg is filling up with entries like this: [66451.217935] sdb: sdb1 [66752.272509] sdb: sdb1 [66752.593223] sdd: sdd1 [67964.907826] sdc: sdc1 [67974.038562] sdd: sdd1 [68595.107245] sdb: sdb1 [69525.179964] sdb: sdb1 [69835.958729] sdd: sdd1 [70766.572499] sdb: sdb1 [71076.828494] sdb: sdb1 [71377.605195] sdd: sdd1 [72298.301984] sdb: sdb1 [73219.937015] sdd: sdd1 [73637.287585] sdb: sdb1 [73637.660971] sdd: sdd1 [73840.037079] sdb: sdb1 For any particular disk, they appear to go away once the partition is mounted, but I'm curious to know what the information is being attempted to be communicated and whether I should be concerned. I'm currently running ARMBIAN Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 4.9.12-sunxi.
  23. Hello everybody, I was running Armbian Wheezy for a very long time. Now I switched to the latest build and I have some problems. My System: BananaPi Pro Lemaker 7" touchscreen with ft5x_ts touch controller Armbian 5.25 Kernel 3.4.113 LXDE Desktop (task-lxde-desktop) Here you can download my image: www.geier-media.de/upload/armbian/armbian_jessie_5.25_3.4.113_4gb_20170319_01.zip And here is the install text file: www.geier-media.de/upload/armbian/armbian_jessie_5.25_3.4.113_4gb_20170319_01.txt Users: root (PW: ".root") / vispro (PW: ".vispro") The BIN-File for the touchscreen is activated! In Debian Whezzy I activated the third button emulation with the following tasks: "touch /etc/X11/xorg.conf" "nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf" Section "InputClass" Identifier "Touchscreen" MatchProduct "ft5x_ts" Driver "evdev" Option "EmulateThirdButton" "1" Option "EmulateThirdButtonTimeout" "750" Option "EmulateThirdButtonMoveThreshold" "30" EndSection Unfortunately it is not working with Debian Jessie. Does anybody has an idea? Thanks. Steffen
  24. Dear all, I am using armbian Mainline Debian Jessie 4.9.7 and 4.9.12 on a Banana Pi Pro (A20). Coming from legacy and fex, I came a long way learning a lot about Device Trees, Overlays, etc. the last 2 weeks. I even compiled some dev kernels to experiment. I currently struggle with with the OTG port. I have two devices on the primary slots and need to get the OTG in host mode to attach my third device. I've read that the OTG is not providing 5V to the device. Therefore, I use Pin4 5V DC and Pin6 GND of the 40Pin header. It works well when connecting Device #3 on USB 1 or 2. But not on OTG. I used dmesg to track devices. Is there anything I am missing? Do I need to edit armbianEnv.txt with some parameter? Thank you very much for your help!
  25. Hi, Thanks for the excellent distribution I noticed that in the hardwareinfo script there is no bananapipro result and when I boot new vanilla 4.5 Kernel the banana.dtb file is used instead of the bananapro.dtb As a result, no wifi, see also last two replies here for similar issue with M1: http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/340-banana-pi-m1plus-no-wifi/?p=2138 Dirty Solution: hardcode loading bananapipro.dtb in boot.cmd. Wifi works This is result of "cat /proc/cpuinfo"
