  1. tl;dr: irc://irc.libera.chat/armbian Feel free to join us: Server: irc.libera.chat Ports: 6697 / non-SSL: 6667 Channels: #armbian, #armbian-commits, #armbian-rss There are even more channels available. Information about those and our services can be found in our documentation: https://docs.armbian.com/Community_IRC/ Registration with Nickserv is mandatory to join primary #armbian channel. Don't hesitate to get in touch with us
  2. Some users may experience issues when downloading new v23.11 images from our website or also sometimes with apt not having the new packages. The reason is that we had a (not so) small whoopsie at the very last minute and the infra is still recovering and syncing. Easiest workaround would be to simply try multiple times until the redirector hits a mirror that has the files you want to download. Alternatively go directly to https://fi.mirror.armbian.de/ which (seems to) have all the files atm. Will work with apt as well.

  5. Check community rolling releases of armhf arm64 riscv and x86 Armbian Linux images. Fresh from development for testings and meeting with the bleeding edge: https://github.com/armbian/community
  6. Apologies for the short downtime about an hour ago. Both forums and main website have been relocated to new hardware. You may notice a significant performance improvement, especially in forums. Enjoy
  7. Hey fellows, we have published some info about board maintainership. What to expect from Armbian and what Armbian expects from maintainers. Check it out: https://docs.armbian.com/Board_Maintainers_Procedures_and_Guidelines/
  8. Hello All, While we haven't had a chance yet to post a job posting for it but we are looking for a graphical designer to help us revamp some of the Armbian logos as well as help design a skin for the upcoming graphical Armbian Configurator interface based on QT5. We are happy to discuss realistic hourly rates (keeping in mind we have a limited budget) if you are not able to volunteer your time, though would also accept those who are able to donate or volunteer their time as well. There is currently no deadlines set for this work, so we can work with volunteers on a time schedule that works best for them, as long as they are dedicated to getting the work completed in a reasonable time. If you are interested in helping, please feel free to reach out to me in direct message or reply here and I will follow-up with you by message! Thanks everyone! Cheers!
  9. To secure top download speed around the globe, we need to have as many torrent seeders as possible. Currently we have dedicated seeders in: Estonia, Germany, Pakistan, Slovenia, Argentina, Singapore, USA, ... but we might be slower in China or Japan. Prerequisite: - Armbian or any Debian or Ubuntu based distribution (check instructions how to run armbian-config on a generic Debian/Ubuntu), - 1TB of free space. a) Installation with installing Transmission server login and obtain superuser rights, execute armbian-config, select Software -> Softy, install Transmission server. (use space to confirm and enter to proceed with install) Leave armbian-config and after a few minutes check your torrent server status with the following command: transmission-remote -n 'transmission:transmission' -l and you should see some progress: Note: Torrent server installed this way is auto updating - it checks daily for new images, adds new and purge old ones. b.) Installation to the existing Transmission server You only need to install a cron job script that your client serve only most recent files. Create file: sudo nano /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent with this content: Change username(transmission) and password(transmission) if have something else than stock, save and exit, then run: sudo chmod +x /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent sudo /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent Optional: If you use GUI, you can install desktop front end for simple torrent server monitoring. apt install transmission-remote-gtk Host: localhost Username: transmission Password: transmission Confirm and click connect. How to stop seeding torrents? Remove cron job: sudo rm /etc/cron.daily/seed-armbian-torrent Remove torrents: transmission-remote -n transmission:transmission -t all --remove-and-delete This command will remove all files on your torrent server! If you seed other stuff do a cherry pick.
  10. The mirror mentioned above will go offline at 8th of March, so in one week from now. While remaining functional by itself until this date it will be removed from automatic redirect within next few hours. If you have hard-coded this mirror in your sources.list it is strongly recommended to swap for a different one or use the generic redirector code { font-family: Consolas,"courier new"; color: crimson; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2); padding: 2px; font-size: 105%; } apt.armbian.com

  13. tl;dr: connect to irc.libera.chat and join #armbian --------------------------------------------------------------- Due to the weird stuff happening on Freenode we decided to move our channels to the recently founded Libera.chat network. The announcement thread in forums as well as our documentation have been updated accordingly. To make transition more comfortable a relay bot has been put in place to sync messages between the #armbian channel on both Freenode and Libera. For those who had project affiliation cloaks please drop me a message to get them reassigned. Be sure to have your nick registered with Nickserv beforehand. For more information about what happened use your favorite search engine or reddit and look for stuff like "freenode hostile takeover" or similar.
  14. Media info: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2020/12/openzfs-2-0-release-unifies-linux-bsd-and-adds-tons-of-new-features/ Remarks: 32bit support is broken in Debian Stretch, no upgrade there. Also this upgrade is needed to bump kernel to 5.10.y
  15. Armbian have historically been much more geared towards "server/headless" usage, for many different reasons. It has taken a much longer time not only for upstream development of underlying graphical libraries / drivers to mature, but also for us (the Armbian project itself) to come up with a sensible implementation that would fit nicely into our existing build framework. However, this work has been going on in the background for quite some time already. Announcement Finally, the time is right to announce we are publishing our initial implementation of these "desktop" features! Warning! We are only announcing this here on our own forums for the time being, as this is still early days. In fact, at this point we are still mainly looking for testers. You should consider this an alpha quality release at this time! What works so far? Features we plan to develop works, we are already hunting bugs for months, but they are certainly still present. Remember, we are not looking for bugs that are tied to specific hardware feature, but bugs that are linked to the build process, userland and basic desktop functionality. Report bugs in Armbian build framework section: https://forum.armbian.com/forum/12-armbian-build-framework/ Currently, the following Desktop Environments (DEs) are considered to have early "support": In addition, there are more DEs which should be considered very much WIP, in other words, not really fully working (yet), but we designed a system that can have unlimited variants. Help Wanted! These changes are wide ranging and touch many parts of the code. Therefore even if you don't plan on using any "desktop" features, your testing can help to find bugs, even in "server" versions (as eventually this code will be merged with master in matter of weeks). If you have been looking for some opportunity to help the project by getting involved a bit more, this could be your chance! When you notice a problem make a pull request: https://github.com/armbian/build/pulls ( currently sits on a branch "desktop" ) Going forward we will be looking for additional desktop maintainers. Currently the plan is for the Armbian core team to maintain the framework and perhaps settle on 2-3 DE options. Any which are to be considered in addition to that, will need to come with some commitment to ongoing maintenance by whoever is interested in those additional desktops. Join #armbian-devel IRC channel for development level chat and strengthen the desktop team. Welcome! Getting Started If this is your very first time using the build scripts, start with general instructions. If you are already familiar with the basics of building, some additional detailed instructions pertaining to desktop features can be found here. You will also need to add: ./compile.sh LIB_TAG=desktop EXPERT=yes If you don't have option or desire to build from sources, you can also check if your board has nightly images - we are compiling them from this new development branch for a few weeks now - for the desktop you want to try / see: Documentation For end users, if you just want to build image interactively and by choosing supported OS variants, things hasn't changed much and should just work while advanced documentation has changed significantly. Its pretty much WIP and is scattered around in those files: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/desktop/config/desktop/README.md https://github.com/armbian/documentation/pull/125 https://github.com/armbian/documentation/pull/98 Additional During this change we also added most recent userland(s):
  16. Hey fellows, quite a while ago we started working on a better way to guide users through the way of properly reporting bugs at the correct places and help them avoid common issues the same time. We came up with a form that, depending on users input and conditional logic, leads to the correct place or a dead-end with explanation why specific bugs are not accepted. A link to this has been added to the documentation, the download page for each board and will pop up when creating a new topic in the bug tracker forums. We appreciate your feedback and bring issues with the form to our attention. We are also aware that using Google forms is everything but ideal but in my opinion it is a good point to start with. If you know a good way to implement this in WordPress or even have a proof-of-concept handy we'd love to hear from you. Put your thoughts below this topic: For those who want to test it directly, here it is https://www.armbian.com/bugs
