  1. Hi all, anyone here ever used a Khadas Tone Board on a Nanopi M4 ? I've just bought one but can't get any sound out of it. What I'm trying to achieve is run Logitech media server in conjunction with squeezelite using the Khadas as my DAC. LMS and Squeezelite both installed and run without errors BUT ! there is no sound. How can I make the Khadas the default output device ? Edit I have it working now you have to edit /etc/defaults/squeezelite and tell it what card to use SL_SOUNDCARD="hw:CARD=Control,DEV=0"
  2. Hi everyone, I'm trying to get 4k output from my NanoPi M4. I have tried (using a Steamlink HDMI cable) directly connected to my TV (to eliminate my receiver as a point of failure/bugs) to get something to output to the screen in 4k. I haven't succeeded. What information I've gathered so far: There are two "vops" a big and little, and the little one is not designed to, and cannot output 4k (there was a patch hacking that into vopl but I never dared test it and can't find it now). There was this change setting the maximum resolution to 4k in a file/subdirectory I cannot find in recent kernels anymore: https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/uboot/patch/20200402114125.2501-6-jagan@amarulasolutions.com/ Any LibreElec/Kodi build (Joern-P, @Kwiboo, @balbes150, @@lex) didn't seem to give me any 4K output options, on kernel 4.4 or 5.x. The EDID returned from my TV contains the 4k modes (but seems to not be able to handle them correctly): Section "Monitor" Identifier "LG TV" ModelName "LG TV" VendorName "GSM" # Monitor Manufactured week 1 of 2015 # EDID version 1.3 # Digital Display DisplaySize 1600 900 Gamma 2.20 Option "DPMS" "false" Horizsync 30-83 VertRefresh 58-62 # Maximum pixel clock is 160MHz #Not giving standard mode: 640x480, 60Hz #Not giving standard mode: 800x600, 60Hz #Not giving standard mode: 1024x768, 60Hz #Not giving standard mode: 1152x864, 60Hz #Not giving standard mode: 1280x1024, 60Hz #Extension block found. My question is then, what am I missing and how do I get 4k output from my NanoPi M4? Thanks for any input!
  3. Hi all, I'd just like to share a problem I experienced and what solved after a bit of Googling. Basically, I have Nextcloud installed on my Nanopi M4 (v1) with Armbian: $ uname -a Linux nanopim4 4.4.192-rk3399 When I sync files from my Android phone via local wifi, often the transfers were just failed. Not always but usually, it's when a directory contains lot of large files. After a bit of Googling and came across this: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/494290/nanopi-m4-rk3399-apache2-ssl-large-download-hangs/495378#495378 It works. The problem's solved after: ethtool -K eth0 rx off tx off and put the command in /etc/network/if-up.d/ethtool Just wondering if anyone knows the root cause and have better solution than disabling things. Thanks,

    M4 Died

One of my boards gave up today - I was just connecting the SATA power cable to the hat and no leds came on - no sound or smoke just nothing - I tried several times to re power it and all I saw on a couple of occasions was a very faint flicker of the leds -so I guess it's dead.
  5. Hi everyone, I have been playing a lot (too much maybe) with my NanoPi M4. It seems that most of what I need will be working "soon" (yay for hardware decoding), except HDMI audio bitstream passthrough. Whatever kernel I try, I always get this output from Kodi: Device 1 m_deviceName : default m_displayName : Default (hdmi-sound ff8a0000.i2s-i2s-hifi i2s-hifi-0) () m_displayNameExtra: m_deviceType : AE_DEVTYPE_PCM m_channels : FL, FR, LFE, UNKNOWN1, FC, BC, BL, BR, BLOC, BROC, FLOC, FROC m_sampleRates : 32000,44100,48000,88200,96000,176400,192000 m_dataFormats : AE_FMT_S24NE4,AE_FMT_S32NE,AE_FMT_S16NE,AE_FMT_S16LE m_streamTypes : No passthrough capabilities And PCM audio works just fine of course, but Kodi shows an empty "Audio Passthrough" section. The most functional OS I have seen for HDMI audio passthrough was Joern-p's custom branches: https://github.com/Joern-P/LibreELEC.tv/releases This gave me functional passthrough for DD and DTS and some of the HD formats (I think it was DTS-HD that worked, but Dolby Atmos gave sharp noise). I tried extracting the changes he applied, and also tried various 4.4 kernels, but none of them seem to be enough to enable the passthrough options. I wonder if I'm looking for this in the wrong place, and this needs to be configured somewhere higher-level (ALSA?) than the kernel. I'm used to everything working out of the box with the right kernel, but I may be spoiled by x86 systems. Does anyone have any idea how to enable HDMI audio passthrough on the NanoPi M4 with Kodi? Thanks!
  6. Hi, I want to do a NAS RAID(4,1) with the M4 with SATA hat. This thing is f... damned fast with SAMBA. I meassured 60MB/s with a 1.5TB 2.5" drive I had just laying around. OK, I forgot to mention that I installed Armbian. It's been three years since my last attempt to build a useful PC with AARCH64 and many things happened meanwhile. Looks like the time has come finally. (To say good bye to x86 and Windows.) Can someone point me to a direction before I gonna buy four SSDs?
  7. Hi all. I'm doing some tests and I noticed wifi isn't working on the M4 with Bionic 5.4(server from download page) and 5.3(desktop self build) Both on-board wifi any usb wifi dongles aren't working. Anyone an idea why this is? Cheers.

    NanoPi M4 /w TFT

Hi Folks, I have a NanoPiM4 and loaded Ambian 5.75 onto an SD card, it boots great (Thanks Armbian!). How I've added the FriendlyElec 2.8 TFT module (240x320) and want to configure it. So I used the handy `armbian-config` to pick up the kernel headers and sources, and went to go an add fbtft and select the ST7789V driver. Only when I went to run `make menuconfig` I got: root@nanopim4:/usr/src/linux-source-4.4.174-rk3399# make menuconfig scripts/kconfig/mconf Kconfig net/Kconfig:83: can't open file "net/wireguard/Kconfig" scripts/kconfig/Makefile:28: recipe for target 'menuconfig' failed I've updated the armbian monitor stuff here: http://ix.io/1B9n Can anyone give me some tips to resolve this ? At worst I'll manually edit the config file and try building.
  10. For a few Weeks i have little problem with my Nano Pi M4. Whenever I boot up it says: "Loading, please wait...starting version 237" and then i have to wait . Finally it boots up, but there were times this SBC was booting really fast. Is there something i could do, to speed up booting again? Regards

  12. I would like to reset USB power for some reasons. Now I'm using NanoPi M4 and "uname -a" returns the following I was wondering if I could power off/on of my USB device with commands, and found people are doing it with different PCs like topic below Is this possible with NanoPi M4? and if possible, how?
  13. Hello, I'm trying to use a NanoPi M4 with an old TV. When the system boots, the TV displays "Invalid resolution." However, it works with a different TV, which unfortunately I cannot use full time. I note that on the working TV, there's a line in dmesg stating "Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 240x67" which would imply that this can be configured somewhere?? However I tried searching, the only docs I get are outdated, for other hardware, or don't work. I tried adding 'disp.screen0_output_mode=1280x720p60' to /boot/armbianEnv.txt, but it had no effect. A pointer as to where these settings are actually controlled would be very helpful. Thanks
  14. Hi, I own a NanoPi M4 and I am wondering how to get the USB OTG working. I would like to set up Ethernet via USB OTG on my NanoPi M4. The only reference I can find is with https://vjordan.info/log/fpga/nanopi-neo-usb-otg-with-armbian-mainline-4x-kernel.html and I want to know if the steps are similar for NanoPi M4.

  16. I have a suggestion for the moderators: Please move the Rockchip 3399 subforum from development to Bug Tracker if its ok! Most of the boards listed there: Nanopi Neo4, M4, NanoPC T4, Rock64PRO, Rock Pi4 are now marked as supported on the Armbian download page. I read a comment from @Igor sometime ago (not able to locate right now) that the only thing holding back the sub forum transfer was a lack of moderator action. Thanks.
  17. I have a nanopi m4 and I want to use the /dev/ttyS4 (UART4) for communication, but only the RX is working, and the TX does not, but when I set the GPIO nr. 40 (the TX pin) to output through sysfs I can change the voltage level from high to low and back... Please help, what am I missing here, that I can not transmit anything ? I am using the latest friendlycore.
  18. Hi, in Germany electrical Power ist getting more and more expensive (reaching 30ct per kWh). So I am trying to work out a Desktop Usercase Scenario (Mail, Office, Browsing, Video Streaming, Audio Streaming) on a SBC System. My experience is growing in Using a Manjaro XFCE on the Pi 4B (4GB), Booting from SSD. It works very well, nearly like the former used Deskmini A300 with Athlon 200GE. And I also tried out the Jetson Nano, Ubuntu 18.04. On both Systems you can get a satifsfying Desktop Experience, but the Jetson with ist Cortex A57 Core Base is a bit slower, also while it is used from an micro SD SanDisk A1 Card. For a long time I ve been watching the SBC market, I think the RK 3399 should perform very well in this Usecase, but how mature is the support by the OS? Is it possible to stream Videos in a Browser on the Desktop (like the both above)? Thank you for answering! Regards Dirk
  19. Hi! I have the problem that when I try to boot with any Kernel other than 4.4.x, U-boot gives me the "Bad ARM64 Image Magic" Error and stops booting. I can build my own 4.4 Kernels without any problem, those will boot fine. But If I try any newer kernel, for example a NEXT Kernel (package linux-image-next-rockchip), or a DEV Kernel (package linux-image-dev-rockchip), or even if I compile my own 5.3 Kernel, a boot attempt always results in the Bad Magic error. I also have this problem when I install a whole 5.3 Armbian Image (for example https://dl.armbian.com/rockpro64/Buster_current_desktop) I have three RK3399-based boards: 1.) NanoPi M4, 2.) RockPi 4B, and 3.) RockPro64 .... And the problem is with all of them ... Any Ideas? Do I need a newer U-Boot? And where to get that for RK3399 based boards? Even Ayufan packages use 2017.09 ... Regards, MikeDK

Hi all, has anyone managed to get wifi working on the Buster image for M4 v 1 ? Works perfectly with Bionic but I couln't connect at all on the Buster image ( eth0 on physical cable was fine ), using armbian-config lists available networks but is unable to connect ( which is what the error message is )
