  1. Hello everybody, I'm very new to the topic 'armbian' and yet excited. Just played with the BananaPi and downloaded the distro from the first link I got (light/mainline I think). Now I have bought an Odroid XU4 and want to build a Home-Server / NAS with it, wondering which distro to choose. Of course without the heavy-load desktop, but (xenial) next oder default? Thank you. Regards AXEL
  2. Hi, just bought a HC1 and tryin to setup Armbian. I installed Armbian_5.37_Odroidxu4_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.9.71, works with SDHC. Now I put in my ADATA SP550 (480GB) SSD, but something fails, see dmesg: There is no device for the SSD, therefor no installation to SATA possible. Any suggestions?? Power is ok (5V, 4A), SSD works fine on my desktop, without any hassles.
  3. I recently hooked up my XU4 to a DVD/CD Enclosure, essentially just SATA to USB, and am having an issue mounting the drive. After researching online it seems this is a filesystem issue. So, I was wondering if anybody else has encountered this problem, and if so, how did you fix it? Thanks Armbian: Image: Armbian_5.37_Odroidxu4_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.9.71_desktop.7z Kernel: [default] 4.9.61-odroidxu4 #2 SMP PREEMPT Wed Nov 22 16:34:23 CET 2017 Errors: # mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr0 /media/ceru/cdrom mount: /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so. /etc/fstab edit with this line "/dev/sr0 /media/ceru/cdrom udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0" does nothing, same error as above ^ Note: Enclosure checked to be working with Windows, and that disc is using ISO9660 filesystem.
  4. I installed a Debian Jessie on an Odroid HC1, and trying to connect an encrypted disk to it via USB. blkid lists the device: # blkid /dev/sdb1: UUID="2288876d-0fe8-4b5a-b7d1-1660df8b2e25" TYPE="crypto_LUKS" PARTUUID="c8895b7f-01" but when I try to open it with luksOpen: # cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sdb1 sdb1_crypted Enter passphrase for /dev/sda1: After entering the passphrase (and Enter), it hangs. The SSH connection times out after 1-2 minutes (where to enlarge?) and there is no HDMI on the HC1, so I am left blind. The disk was created and used in another system and worked perfectly on a Raspberry PI and my Linux PC. I created a key file and added it to /etc/crypttab, hoping the system will open it such, but no luck. I cannot connect to the board then, it doesn't set up even the network interface (it uses a wired Ethernet). It is on for 45 minutes now, and the 3 LEDs: blue and green on the Odroid, and the one at the disk are flashing or lighting continuously, but I don't know what is happening (cannot connect). The disk is connected through a powered USB HUB to the Odroid USB2 host port. What could be happening? Forum admins: can you pls. message me somehow if this is or not posted? I submitted another message a few weeks ago but could not find it on the forum ("Notify me of replies" is on, but I could not find even my post). Thanks,
  5. I learned that the cpu on my hc2 has 4 'slow' cores and 4 fast ones. Now I would want certain apps to always use the fast cores. I found `taskset` to do so. My idea was to just add `taskset --cpu-list 4,5,6,7` in the .service file of the desired app in the execstart line in front. To have it always use the big cores. Would this work? Also I have apps 'calling' unrar to extract files. I don't know how I would do it in this case. I think it'll be a bit complicated to tell the apps to call unrar with `taskset --cpu-list 4,5,6,7`. Is there a way to have unrar always run on the big cores?
  6. Dear all, thanks for the work of you, to provide us with the Armbian Images for our arm-based boards. BUt i've a small issue, starting the last Image for Odroid XU4. If I write the Image to a SD-Card and start the XU4, all Things run well. When I write the Image to my eMMC-Card (original Hardkernel, 64GB), the XU4 doesn't start. Normally, it's not such a big Problem, but there is a massive speedup, using eMMC with XU4. How can I get Armbian startet, installed on an eMMC? Many thanks for your Support, Burkhard

  8. In short: disabling zram-config.service and using "pure partition swap via ssd" causes problems HC-1, armbianmonitor -u = http://sprunge.us/aRZc UPDATE: "New year problems party" continues: armbianmonitor -u = http://sprunge.us/ZYLE
  9. I recently built Armbian with Open Media Vault installed at build time. After configuring the system and wanting to make a backup image when I use Win32DiskImager to create an image it succeeds but after I plug the SD back in the board it wont boot. I recently lost power and I have the same issue of the board not booting after power is disconnected. If I make a fresh image it can boot and reboot but if I ever remove power the board will not boot into the OS. What happens when there is power loss the alive led is blinking and the HDMI outputs a black screen with a blinking cursor even when left for hours it doesn't ever stop. The SD card is readable and can view the files in the underlying system if I load it up in Ubuntu. I'm unsure what I can do to help figure out why this happens to the board.
  10. My System: ODROID XU4 Armbian stable: Linux odroidxu4 4.9.56-odroidxu4 USB-3 HDD Cage with 3 SATA drives, connected to XU4 via USB2-HUB (Since XU4 onboard USB3 does not recognize drive cage, never has) The drives are 1.5TB, 3TB and 4TB in size. All have one partition of full size and are encrypted with luks/dm-crypt. I'm switching from a Debian 8 system on the XU4, which had no problem with disk decryption. After the initial setup on Armbian I'm now trying to use those disks. I can successfully decrypt and mount the 1.5 TB disk. But when I do cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/disk/by-uuid/9ef4da01-8c26-48f1-a945-d2f419068e2f somename the system reboots after I've entered my passphrase and a few seconds of disk activity. I get no error, I see no new messages with dmesg. I can reliably reproduce this behaviour for both the 3TB and 4TB disks. Any help on how to identify/fix the problem would be greatly appreciated.
  11. hi, I am VERY happy with how 4.9 is running odroid-xu4. as i use it as media server and player wanted to see if i could get latencies (poitential) down by applying latest RT patches that are in line with current xu4-next kernel sources. added pathes to userpatches/kernel/odoirdxu4-next directory, build process went fine, have selected FULL-RT but it does not boot (final image) source: https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/tre ... dxu4-4.9.y rt-patches: https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel ... ts/rt/4.9/ it compiles ok but it does not boot ... has anyone looked at what the issue might be ? i don't have serial debuigger yet, have ordered but need someone else with more brains to help out in the process ? Thank you !!!
  12. After a major failure of my file server I bought a pair of seagate desktop USB3 drives to use for temporary storage while I sort out the mess. I plugged them into an XU4 and started transferring several 100GBs of data only to have it lock up solid. dmesg indicates a number of uas restarts, the last of which doesn't complete. I had the same thing on another SBC (one of the orange PIs I think, although I can't remember which model) and I also found references to the same problem on x86 boxes, so I think the problem is fairly generic. Apparently it can be worked around by adding a conf file to to /etc/modprobe.d, but I haven't got that to work yet (time has been in short supply). Hanging the drives off SBCs running an older kernel or connecting to the USB2 port on the xu4 gets things running smoothly (if slowly).
  13. I am trying to set up serial communications over the CON10 connector (UART0 pins 4,5,6,8) to another board (BeagleBone Black) to transmit data parsed as strings between the boards. Based on this link, this should correspond to /dev/ttySAC0. I have been unsuccessful in achieving communication via these pins and device node. In using setserial to probe the port settings, I was concerned about the following output: setserial /dev/ttySAC0 /dev/ttySAC0, UART: undefined, Port: 0x0000, IRQ 83 In using dmesg to probe for more information, I found an identifier for SAC0: dmesg | egrep -i 'serial|tty' [ 1.020896] [c4] 12c00000.serial: ttySAC0 at MMIO 0x12c00000 (irq = 83) is a S3C6400/10 but have been unable to locate any definitive information from that identifier to inform my configuration attempts. Finally, in looking back at the documentation of my OS, I found this link which seems to indicate that there may be an issue with serial communications at the OS level. The four pin connector mapped to /dev/ttySAC2 works fine, however, so I wasn't sure how far this problem extends. Has anyone used the CON10 serial connection to send and receive data, or run into any similar problems with Jessie on the XU4?
  14. Is there anywhere I can find pulseaudio-equalizer or package with similar capabilities for Armbian on XU4? It appears to be out there for arm64 ...
  15. Hi, I'm considering reinstalling OpenMediaVault using an Armbian image as the NAS performance on the current image I use is very bad (4-7 megabyte via Samba over Gigabit) and I've heard that it should be much better with Armbian. Since I have some data on my NAS that's protected with Ecryptfs, I wonder if the kernel config in a future update could be changed to include Ecrypt_fs module support. Thanks for considering making this change. All the best, Sebastian EDIT: tkaiser from the openmediavault forum took care of this. Thanks!
  16. Dear all.problem with my Xu4My router is a bit buggy..[ i think or my isp ]When my isp has a hick in the wan lineMy Xu4 does not automatic reconnect with my lanIs there a option to auto reconnect when there is a connection lose Now i reboot the xu4 manually and then is working everything fine'I use the latest armbian on my Xu4
  17. I wonder if anyone can help. I have downloaded the latest build for my odroid-xu4 and have the kernel version 4.9.51-odroidxu4. The trouble is I cannot find any where the kernel headers for this particular version. The kernel headers that come with the dist is 4.9.31-odroidxu4 and when I do apt-get kernel-headers-$(uname -r) or apt-get kernel-headers-next I get version 5.0.33 and I cannot seem to download the version that I need to compile drivers. Anyone know where the version 4.9.51-odroidxu4 linux headers are? Thanks
  18. Just a little question: I'm new with this device, but not with armbian. Tested the Image for HC1 and it works fine, but if i try to boot root filesystem from sata device (using armbian-config, sata install) it didn't boot. Anyone tested that with success? Thx
  19. Hi All, I've just got the new Orange Pi R1 and as expected it's working just well with the Orange Pi Zero armbian image. The only thing I'm struggeling with is the Wifi driver. The driver compiles succesfully but it seems that the kernel needs patching as well: ... 22. Hi All! I was wondering if there is a proper way to deploy a freshly built armbian for Odroid XU4 on an eMMC? Unfortunately, the SD-Card version doesn't seem to work with the eMMC. After searching for this topic I couldn't find anythin in particular related to Odroid. Thanks, Viktor

  24. Hi, Tried searching on docs.armbian.com and the forums but got more confused than anything else. I just installed legacy armbian on my xu4 and the only thing missing is proper video decoding ( vlc won't show any image and mplayer complains that my configuration is too slow ). Could somebody point me to a tutorial on how to enable hardware ( mali t628 ) video decoding ? Thanks for your help !
  25. after installing armbian on my odroid-xu4-box and about one hour later the screen was going black. But I was not able to get back the running X-Session. So I rebootet as first and as next step I disabled the xdg-screensaver to off, but with no succes - the screen goes black again and neither a moving of the mouse nor a touch the keyboard brings the screan back to activity. So - now what can I do here ? The same behavior appears, if I switch off the screen, if I wanna make a pause for some times. After controlling the xdg-screensaver status I get "off". So it seems, that no screensver is active and running. Which process produces this behavior ? Hope anyone does have an idea ? Thanks in advance bye silverplate
