  1. Hey fellow tinkerers, I'm pretty happy with my Rock64 boards so far, however, when I recently upgraded the kernel on the oldest one and rebooted, I couldn't ssh back in. So I hooked it up to a monitor and was blown away from all the error-like text that kept flowing on my screen. Since I have if this is logged anywhere (I looked but couldn't find anything after mounting the sdcard in my laptop), I had to film it. See attached video. It basically consists of lots of errors formatted like this: [<ffffffxxxxxxxxxx>] and a lot of errors looking like this: dma-pl330 ff1f0000.dmac: pl330_update:1783 Unexpected! Is there any way to salvage this? Eg, tinker with some boot file? Or should I just be done with it and reinstall the entire system? Is it board-related aka is my board done and needs to be replaced? System info: Rock64 with 4GB RAM, running Armbian Ubuntu 16.04. Has been working solid before the kernel upgrade and reboot. VID_20180617_094424_1_1.mp4
  2. Hi, I'm unable to get my Rock64 to boot either the Xenial or Stretch Armbian images from SD or Emmc. I can get all of the other OS's to boot fine off of either media. Ive tried with multiple Emmc chips, SD cards and Rock64's with the same results so its not the hardware. Seems like it cant find the boot loader. Ive used win32diskimager, Etcher and the Rock64 instakk software. I've formatted the SD card completely, used new SD cards... I'm stuck! Any suggestions Thanks!
  3. Is there a guide somewhere how to enable 1wire support on a rock64 using stretch or xenial. Im trying to read a dallas DS18b20 sensor. I see some examples for other boards but cant figure out how to apply them to the Rock64. Thanks
  4. Has anyone here tested the Rock64 successfully with an u-boot version which is not the one from ayufan? I did not have much luck with the rk3328 default config and mainline u-boot when I tried it a while back. The same is true when I tried to use the board config from ayufan with mainline u-boot. The version by ayufan is working in principle but also is rather dated as far as I know and therefore does not support some newer features. Anyone knows if the version from ayufan will be bumped or has a working config for a more recent u-boot version?

  6. I got the Rock64 specifically for router-like functionality. In addition to the native ethernet port, I've added two USB3 RTL8153 Gigabit adapters: http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=56&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=326 I've tried multiple 0.5.x and 0.6.x Ayufan images, and also Stretch armbian here (which also uses the Ayufan kernel). I've tried both the 4.4 kernel all these distros come with, and up to 4.17 as well. In all cases I see terrible and unreliable USB3/USB2 and ethernet performance. It seems Rock64 don't actually support this board properly, and just rely on Ayufan.
  7. Hi, I've burn "Armbian Stretch desktop legacy kernel 4.4.y" on sd card on use nand-sata-install on emmc but when I remove sd card it's no boot. I read on Pine forum we must put a jumper on "emmc pin" then remove 3/4s after power on. So I've try but no success. I can see emmc when I boot from sd card but no more.
  8. /usr/lib/dri/rockchip_dri.so just doesn't exist but not really sure if the xorg package is the xenial one or rockchip one. If it is the rockchip one then for some reason rockchip_dri.so isn't being built. On a startx it gives it a good go but always drops out to software rendering because its missing the above.

  10. Hello, I was able to overclock the CPU to 1.488Ghz by editing rk3328-rock64.dtb file. But I can not figure out how to set the RAM-clock-speed. Is there any chance to ramp up the RAM clock?

  12. I tried the stable Arabian image for rock 64 and found out that full HD video is played with strong brakes, when playing HEVC image is missing How to force video to be reproduced normally, maybe I don't understand something ?

Hello, I want to try out Armbian OS as opposed to Ubuntu Artful 17.10 on my Rock64, mainly to see how it compares(I am aware Armbian minimal for Rock64 is derived from Ubuntu Xenial, but I understand it's optimized for ARM CPUs) Long story short, I have a 32GB eMMC and a eMMC to USB adapter from Pine64 and would like to run Rock64 Armbian off it, but I was unable to simply flash Armbian to it using 'dd' or Etcher as with ayufan's Ubuntu images. I am aware it's possible to boot from an microSD card and use the "nand-sata-install" bash script to achieve this as described in the Armbian documentation, so I am inquiring if I can bypass using the microSD card. * I want to know if it's possible to flash Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 on my eMMC, mount it in my Rock64 and attempt to an build Armbian image, which I can later copy to a separate storage media and flash to my eMMC card. If this is indeed achievable, I will share the Armbian eMMC rock64 image for all to enjoy. Regards,
  15. I have some questions about the Linux images that Ayufan built for the Rock64 board. Not really technical issues so I did not think they should go on the Github page. If this is not the appropriate place for these, let me now and I'll remove this post. Also, if this is not the place, where should I be asking these types of questions? I just downloaded the new PRE-RELEASE version of Debian Stretch from the Github page (Yes, I know it's bleeding edge, but just experimenting for now). Specifically the stretch-minimal-rock64-0.6.5-152-arm64 image. I just burned it to my eMMC board. Will boot and see how it all works tomorrow. There are a number of other .deb packages that are on the download list. Do I need any of them?   16. Hello all. I've made a video about the Rock64. I've tried different distro's, but Armbian was the best for me. The only problems I've found was that Synaptic Package Manager didn't work. It crashes when I press the search button. And sometimes surfing was extremely slow. Otherwise it did fix all the problems I've had with the other distro's I've tried. Thank you for all the great work. Now I've started my research with the Orange Pi +2, and again Armbian is the best choice. Greetings, NicoD Here is my video.
  17. I have installed open media vault on my rock64 and I have a sata3 disc drive connected to the usb3 port. I have tried both armbian and ayufan firmwares and the speed of the samba shares is 30 MB/sec. I know that the system can do more as with FTP I get 100MB/sec. I have tried many samba tweaks but nothing changes, is this the max I can expect?

I have been trying to compile some packages that do work on the x86 platform and versions of Ubuntu and Debian but it seems like this define is missing so the program in question cannot compile a specific syscall in the file. Is SYS_getdents defined in the standard location unistd.h? I looked at the header but had some difficulties working through some of the defines. Thanks, Carter.
  20. Hello. I use a Rock64 and installed the latest night build (https://dl.armbian.com/rock64/nightly/Armbian_5.42.180328_Rock64_Debian_stretch_dev_4.16.0-rc3.7z) and installed it to my SD card. After booting there was no "/dev/spidevX.X" file. I tried to enable the spidev module (modprobe spidev) and also tried to add it to /etc/rc.local but there was still no spidev device file. Is there a problem with the module? Do I have to enable something else?

  22. I'm using Rock64 image with my V88 Piano RK3328 box and when trying to build ZFS (SPL), it gives me an error. It's probably due to the maching kernel headers for running kernel is missing. When i run apt-get install kernel-headers-generic it installs 4.4.116 headers and not 4.4.77 kernel i'm running. How can i get the correct kernel headers? Thanks.

It was initially intended to be a discussion of a board bring up procedure / proposal format, and has since evolved into discussion of the rock64 generally. Current issues with Armbian board support: -U-Boot problems (various) Solutions so far: - fix the method of generating idbloader.bin. <--- update: the "release" and "mainline-master" behave significantly differently. Mainline-master behaves as it should as far as writing the bootloader. Release does not.
  25. I have successfully gotten Armbian to boot from a USB flash drive on the Rock64 board. Followed ayufan's instructions on how to update SPI Flash with his boot code and then wrote the Armbian Rock64 image to a USB flash drive. All worked as expected. Thanks to everyone at Armbian for all the great work!
