  1. Just started using the thinker board, and got fed up with the OEM builds which brought me here. So I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work, Im sure it can't be easy fixing things blind! Cheers mates. As the Tinkerboard runs hot under load, i run a program that adjusts pwm to adjust fan speed. so I noticed right away when upgrading to 4.13.0 that both soc and gpu thermal zones had broken. I've tried 4.13.1 and 4.13.2 as well they are broken as well. 4.13.x all kick error messages into dmesg as well. root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# uname -r 4.12.0-rockchip root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone[1-2]/temp 32272 32727 root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# uname -r 4.13.0-rockchip root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone[0-1]/temp cat: /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp: Invalid argument cat: /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone1/temp: Invalid argument nothermal.log
  2. Hello! I've been using Armbian on my newly bought Tinker Board for less than two weeks now and I've to say that the work you guys have put into this is incredible! It truly is remarkable and inspires us newcomers which haven't started studying computer science or are currently studying - as myself. So, I will definitely contribute and help others in the future to increase the Armbian community! However, as I'm new to Unix, Tinker Board, everything that's not Windows or Mac OS, I've a deep learning curve ahead! Let's start with my setup: Build: ARMBIAN 5.32.170921 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.14.0-rc1-rockchip (I know it's nightly so there are bugs, yet I would like to help to fix them by giving helpful information if needed) My main sudo user is only used to connect to the Tinker Board through ssh and Remote Desktop. The other users have separate tasks, like the vpn user is connected through OpenVPN and runs rTorrent (split tunnel), another user is running Monit, Resilio Sync, Plex Media Server (with Transcoding), NFS File Server and so on. The connection is wired and the main issue occurs when I reboot my router or the power cuts as the Tinker Board won't try to re-establish the connection. All my other devices that are connected through ethernet will, so I assume this is a bug or something I've to configure. The only way to reconnect the Tinker Board is to cut the power as I'm using the Tinker Board as a NAS with no mouse, keyboard and HDMI cable. My syslog has thousands of lines so if there are some specific information you need, please point me in the right direction. Again, thanks for the incredible support and the effort you guys have put into this! I couldn't dream of a better experience with my Tinker Board using Armbian and considering everything I've installed and done so far without facing critical bugs or big problems is almost to good to be true! So keep up the excellent work:)
  3. I'm using Armbian_5.32.170920_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.13.0_desktop.img (yes I know it's a nightly) and it works great. However if I run "apt-get upgrade" something gets "upgraded" and the display no longer works. I've tested this on multiple tinkerboards with the same results. The tinkerboard is running, I can ssh into it. Just no display. dmesg output:
  4. Hi! I'm using Tinker board with armbian 5.31 stable (Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.4.73-rockchip), and using this as File Server. Cause i've install lighttpd and php7-0-fpm, and install Nextcloud (Owncloud). HTTPS is installed using Let's encrypt certification. Network is directly connected broadband, Half-Giga network. It looks working smoothly but little slow. BUT it's not. it's stuck on every file downloading. It's occurred both HTTPS and HTTP. First, HTTPS file downloading is stopped unexpectedly, cause can't download any files. HTTP is same but automatically resume, cause download is can be completed. I've tested these methods; 1. Change http daemon. (lighttpd to nginx) 2. Change server software. (Nextcloud to h5ai, or direct serve using http daemon) 3. Drop all firewall settings. but not changed anything. Can't be using Tinker board as HTTP File Server?
  5. Hi, I am looking for owners of RK3288 who can help to find missing information in the system. A lot already works from the template. Vcore has been added thanks to @TonyMac32 , but some important information like RAM frequency (dynamic.5.name=dram_frequency) is still missing. This is my adjusted version, but to do some more HW testing we need as much information about the board as possible. This is the Template from armbian. cp /etc/rpimonitor/template/raspbian.conf /etc/rpimonitor/template/raspbian.conf.orig so you have a backup. Now delete all the text within the file ctrl + k and paste this text into it: Now you will see that some information is missing, like RAM-frequency, but also 'Detailed CPU Stats'.
  6. Let's make a topic dedicated to the latest issues with the latest Linux Release Candidate provided on the Linus Torvalds git repository. So, on the 4.13.0-rc6, I got a crash on boot on my MiQi devices due to some changes in the logging functions used by the STMMAC Ethernet driver. I reverted some of their changes by just commenting the new logging function. I'll try to get in touch with the person who wrote the commit that generated this issue, as he tends to roam in the #linux-rockchip IRC channel. Meanwhile, here's the patch : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/blob/master/patches/kernel/v4.13/0012-net-stmmac-Reverting-a-part-of-Use-the-right-logging.patch Here's the issue : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/issues/1 And here's the commit that generated that issue : https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/drivers/net/ethernet/stmicro/stmmac/stmmac_mdio.c?id=fbca164776e438b639af592c522b8b0506b54dcc
  7. Hi, i just tried to install ubuntu 16.04.2 on my tinkerboard, but i got a problem while changing the password as prompt on the first boot : when i try to change it, by anything i write, it just give me that message i use as title. can anyone give me help ? i dont find anyway to go further.
  8. I would like to setup NTPD with PPS but seems GPIO PPS is not yet supported. Anyone working on this?
  9. Hi I have a Philips pcf8563 RTC that connects to i2c-1. Could you please add support for RTC modules please particularly the pcf8563 and the DS1307 as these seem to be the most popular although some more models would be welcome. I have been trying to create a dtb with a previous kernel that included the needed modules but failed to get it to compile. I even tried adding it to the main device tree with no such luck. I know it's not been talked about much but would love to get RTC working on the tinkerboard. For those that haven't noticed the RK808 power management chip on the tinkerboard has RTC capability built in and even has the driver load at boot but for some silly reason ASUS didn't include the header to be able to connect a battery to. Regards Gareth
  10. It doesn't detect any wifi network. And when I run iwconfig. wlan0 doesn't appear (only eth0) What can I do?
  11. Hi, i want to disable the "rockchipminiarm" sound card: root@innotune:~# aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: Audio [USB Audio], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Audio [USB Audio], device 1: USB Audio [USB Audio #1] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: Audio [USB Audio], device 2: USB Audio [USB Audio #2] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 1: rockchipminiarm [rockchip,miniarm-codec], device 0: ff890000.i2s-i2s-hifi i2s-hifi-0 [] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 I wanted to add the module of the soundcard into /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist but i can't find out wich module the soundcard uses. Thanks in advance!
  12. So, if you use the mainline DTSI files, you'll encounter an issue when loading the Mali Midgard GPL kernel module, since the main ARM kernel maintainers changed how the "compatible" properties of Midgard GPU nodes should be defined. Don't ask me why, they created an entire documentation stating that now the Mali Midgard GPU nodes have to harbour the chip series number, a vendor-specific statement, and drop the "arm,mali-midgard" property. The additions are nice, since they allow a quick detection of the chip number and the chip vendor using /sys nodes names. However, turns out that the Mali kernel driver used the dropped property to detect the GPU. So, I've patched the driver to detect T700 and T800 chips. I forgot the T600 ones, I'll update the patch on the next release. https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/blob/master/patches/Midgard/r19p0-01rel0/0005-Added-the-new-compatible-list-mainly-used-by-Rockchi.patch The patch is quite simple : diff --git a/drivers/gpu/arm/midgard/mali_kbase_core_linux.c b/drivers/gpu/arm/midgard/mali_kbase_core_linux.c index 27dcd9c1..cc4932a4 100644 --- a/drivers/gpu/arm/midgard/mali_kbase_core_linux.c +++ b/drivers/gpu/arm/midgard/mali_kbase_core_linux.c @@ -4742,6 +4742,12 @@ static const struct dev_pm_ops kbase_pm_ops = { static const struct of_device_id kbase_dt_ids[] = { { .compatible = "arm,malit6xx" }, { .compatible = "arm,mali-midgard" }, + { .compatible = "arm,mali-t720" }, + { .compatible = "arm,mali-t760" }, + { .compatible = "arm,mali-t820" }, + { .compatible = "arm,mali-t830" }, + { .compatible = "arm,mali-t860" }, + { .compatible = "arm,mali-t880" }, { /* sentinel */ } }; MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE(of, kbase_dt_ids);
  13. Just got my new tinkerboard powered up with armbian. For some reason I could not get anything after build 1.3 off the Asus site to boot! Anway, first impressions good, however in the graphics settings it seems to max out at 1920 x 1080 whilst on paper the tinkerboard is supposed to support 4k. I'll admit I am new to linux so perhaps i'm missing something ovbious, but if someone could explain how I can up the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160 that would be great. For the avoidance of doubt I have it connected to an Acer 27" 4k monitor.
  14. I've installed the Armbian distro for Tinker Board, updated it, fiddles with PulseAudio settings, added Codecs but for the life of me I can't get any audio from the headphone jack. Hopefully someone can suggest a solution. TIA.
  15. Hi all, looking for a bit of advise. I had an idea recently in that I have a problem of syncing a 20Tb USB 3.0 RAID0 drive with a 20Tb NAS. I have two fully duplicated RAID0 drives with no protection, so whenever I upgrade the capacity of a drive, I do a full sync. I do this maybe once a year. Whenever I have to do a full sync however it usually ties my MacBook up for a few weeks to transfer that much data over, so I had the idea recently of having a maker board do it since Linux/Armbian supports HFS+, I can just do an rsync between the two. I opted to purchase a Tinkerboard for the GigE Ethernet (I'll live with the USB 2.0), installed, up and running all perfect but then I encountered a snag. When I tried to mount the 20Tb USB3.0 volume I got a 'File too large' error. I discovered that the problem was the 32bit kernel did not support drives upwards of 16Tb due to the page size! Doh! Since the CPU is 32bit I'll never get it to work. Even if I got it to work on the Raspberry Pi 3 (64bit chip) its not worth it due to 10/100 Ethernet. It'll take an age to transfer that data. So that brings me to google searching and I came across the Rock64. GigE, USB3.0 (win!) 64bit CPU (win! win!). Perfect, but its currently unreleased. So the question begins, What operating systems will be available for the Rock64, will the kernel be 64bit? Do we have USB 3.0 drivers working for the current build. I can't seem to find these answers anywhere just yet so I thought I'd try the forum. Or does anyone know how I can make this work with the kit I already have? Thanks. khaaaan!
  16. Hi out there! F.Y.I. I've tried a lot of things to customize the kernel for Tinker Board on 32-bits host platform, but finally I gave it up. Instead other messy things, I followed the armbian instructions exactly, and successfully created an Armbian_5.32_Tinkerboard_Debian_jessie_default_4.4.76.img using the comile script on the recommended Ubuntu host. Unfortunately the resulted image does not boot: root@eepc:~# ttysh /dev/ttyUSB0 -s 115200 U-Boot SPL 2017.07-armbian (Jul 18 2017 - 17:40:48) Returning to boot ROM... It worked! During the build procedure I choose Tinker Board, choose to customize the kernel (menuconfig, to unleash all of all serial ports of Rockchip), and choose the server version. All other things remained as is. Probably the last mkimage step is somehow missing from the procedure. Regads, M5
  17. Hello, I have Tinker Board. If I install Armbian I see screen only over HDMI. I would like to enable DSI touchscreen display. Is it possible? How make it? Thank you
  18. Anything targeting the mainline will be getting 4.12 tonight, I can confirm some patch failures for Tinker Board/MiQi NEXT, Specifically: 0002-Adaptation-ARM-dts-rockchip-fix-the-MiQi-board-s-LED Was patched in the kernel. 9002_dts_rk3288_updates - Fixed and the packaging postinstall-scripts patch specific chunk: scripts/package/builddeb There is no "Provides:" statement.
  19. I confess, I have no idea what to do with the contents of this repository. Any help would be great, as I've said before, my Linux experience is lacking on things, the work I do is usually in hardware with kiB of RAM... I'm working on the assumption that this would be the best lib to install, if I'm wrong, let me know. https://github.com/rockchip-linux/libmali
  20. Hey My Tinker board is my first dev board and it runs damn hot, I saw this and it says its for the PI, can somebody in the know tell me if It would work on the Tinker Board please. I am running Armbian Ubuntu server temp fan control Thanks!
  21. Hello Forum, i just got my new tinker board running with armbian, thanks for the good work ! I want to set up a vdr vnsi server on this to replace the existing Raspberry 2. To get the DVB USB Skystar Tuners running several modules out of kernel/drivers/media like dvb-core and usb are needed. Are this kernel drivers already compiled available or what to do to get them ? Thanks Thomas
  22. I build a kernel last night because I wanted a headless debian based system, not the nightly desktop available for download. Everything went well (almost*) until I tried installing NFS Apr 21 09:16:39 tinker1 rpc.idmapd[7408]: main: fcntl(/run/rpc_pipefs/nfs): Invalid argument Apr 21 09:16:39 tinker1 nfs-common[7394]: Starting NFS common utilities: statd idmapd failed! Apr 21 09:16:39 tinker1 systemd[1]: Unit nfs-common.service entered failed state. A little googling leads me to believe dnotify is not enabled in the kernel... which was supposed to be replaced by inotify many years ago. Is this simply a config option in the kernel? If it is, can someone point me towards the way I go about enabling this? I've been building in the recommended Ubuntu 16.04 VM * almost... eth0 doesn't get an IPv4 address anymore since it's first boot. manually running dhclient after boot from the console works.
