  1. Initially I attempted upgrading the kernel from 6.1.26 to 6.1.33 using the build scripts to generate the newer kernel and headers. After rebooting I found that the system just appeared to hang around starting kernel. I did wait 10 minutes at first, thinking that perhaps their maybe some stuff going on in the background but after that conclude that it had most certainly crashed. The frustrating thing being that I did not appear to get any errors come through the debug port. At this point I assumed that perhaps something may have broke during the upgrade. My second attempt was using a completely fresh compiled image but unfortunately the result was still the same. 2. Because I'm a glutton for punishment, I decided to test a bunch of PCDuino3 images. Hopefully this will be helpful for someone. Feel free to double-check my work. 3.X kernels work perfect. 4.11-4.14 no HDMI Audio 4.19-5.8 there's a bug where the console won't show up if you connect a high resolution screen. It complains about not enough memory reserved for the frame buffer. So if you have a blank screen, it's possibly working, but you just can't see anything. Also, still no HDMI audio even though it's built into the kernel. 5.9-current hangs at "Starting Kernel" showing in the serial port.
  3. hi new armbian user here.. ive recently got a pcduino v3b and the old OSs for it suck, cant update anything or find what i need... ive tryed downloading a few builds of armbian for pcduino, but im having some issues, firstly hdmi doesnt boot, i mean, never get anything on screen, the only access i have is via the serial port ive just grabbed the latest build that says the board is supported, but i cannot get a network connection, ethernet is plugged an 'up" but no ip or connection, and it seems the onboard wifi cant be found either.... also receiving error messages about failing to reset the ethernet dma ... 4. Hi, I have downloaded and installed Armbian to my Pcduino3 board with the legacy kernel 3.4.113. But now I want to downgrade it to the kernel version 3.4.79. Is there any way to do it? Regards,
  5. Hi all. I have been doing some interesting reading here. Thank you that you started this project. I saw it already in 2014 I think when I bought my Pcduino 3 Version A but I wasn't sure back there if this project was for real. The reason why I bought Pcduino3 in the first place was an idea of a media client/server so I could hook it up to my TV and watch youtube and or Netflix and maybe have a little ftpserver on it so I can transfer my favorite tv shows to it (I currently live in germany but I do not speak/understand it fluently and all tv channels here and in german ) and watch them comfortably on the sofa (my back hurts if I sit too long by PC), and a small webserver on it as a playground or testing for different smaller webserver projects (PHP/MYSQL). But I was not satisfied with Linksprites Ubunty distro and I installed Arch Linux on it. But this is where it all stopped for me and in Arch I could not watch even a single youtube video or any kinda of video for that matter without heavy stutter or "video lag" as I call it. The same was happening in Linksprite distro Ubunty so eventually I gave up with the idea. Now I would like to give it some try again and I need your help/guidence. I have read all the links and infos on linksprites site about pcduino 3 and kompiled my "own" Arch Linux for Pcduino 3. I have also updated Arch to the latest kernel. Please help me or provide me with links in how to do the following. Compile own kernel with support for video hardware acceleration on Pcduino 3 as well as drivers for the Mali 400 graphic card if that is even possible? On this link http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_Kernel they are stating that "older" unsupported 3.4 linux kernel version is needed for hardware accelerated video. The current Kernel that is runing on Pcduino 3 is: PS. This is the original post I made in the "old" Linkpsrite forum. They just reposted it in the new forum. http://forum.linksprite.com/index.php?/topic/3795-trying-to-run-archlinux-from-nand/?hl=arch Also if I would use Armbian is there any difference between Armbian and Arch? I mean in distro packages /software and so on. I would like to add that I am not new to linux, but I am not sure I understand SBCs yet. The first linux I ever used/tested was Red Hat 5.2. Please provide me with some links or guides how to do this. Thank you in advance, Nick.
  6. Using the Ubuntu Armbian image for pcDuino 3 I am unable to get the ethernet device eth1 to work. Wireless works fine, but trying to get an IP address for eth1 fails consistently. I have read various indications that this may be an issue with GMAC TX delays or similar, but as a newbie to pcDuino and embedded Linux I do not know how to alter or adjust this, or if this is even the problem. Has anybody else experienced this with the pcDuino3 and is there a solution? As a long time UNIX developer I am reasonably confident this is not merely a UNIX configuration issue, as I have configured the pcDuino 3 Ubuntu identically to my other reference Ubuntu servers which work fine. This is the exact image file I built: Armbian_5.32_Pcduino3_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113_desktop.img
  7. Hello, I am just trying to set up a pcduino3 nano with Debian Jessie. I downloaded 4.9.7 and put it onto SD card, booted, logged into my sudo account, and then apt-get install lightdm followed by apt-get update apt-get upgrade as per "Getting Started" guide. 8. I've had success with Armbian runing on Orange Pi One and pcDuino2. I'm using the legacy kernels on these boards. Today I've got a pcDuino3B - similar to pcDuino3 except it has GB ethernet from the pcDuino3 nano. I tried legacy kernels for both the 3 and the 3 nano. I see high cpu load ~35% from one of the kworker processes. Then I tried the mainline kernels from the 3 and the 3 nano. No cpu load problems but the GbE does not appear to be configured in the 3 image. 3 nano works on both ethernet and wifi so I'm wondering whether to stick with this one and see if there are any other differences. I don't have a build environment set up and no experience with kernel debugging. I'd like to try and resolve the high cpu issue with the legacy kernel so what should I look for or is there any info I can post here that might help point me in the right direction? Thanks, Nick.
  9. Hello ! I have a pcduino 3 with 4gb nand memory. I tried to install armbian server 5.25 with Kernel Legacy 3.4.113. The SDcard boot works well but when i try to boot from nand just after nand-sata-install, nothing happens. I tried to install LXDE 14 nand from official pcduino repositories and boot works so the memrory is not corrupted. Thanks in advance ! Guillaume UPDATE : I found this solution to my problem. Thanks to walkin-corpse who had the same bug in the meantime. https://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/3481-cubieboard-a20-2012-version-does-not-boot-with-armbian-525/?p=25060
  10. Seems when I upgrade my pcDuino3 Nano (pcDuino3b to be specific) from the Mainline server 4.7.3 using apt-get to the newest of everything, wifi is no longer seen. I have tried following the kernel upgrade guide as listed here: https://www.armbian.com/pcduino3nano/, but that doesn't seem to solve it. The device isn't even seen anymore. I did at one point get an error in dimes about ‘/lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8188eufw.bin' being missing, which was odd because i don't think thats wifi, but replacing that with one i found on the rpi boards didnt help either. Ive been working on this issue for hours. Everything seems to work great as long as i don't upgrade, but I don't really want my armbian devices to be exposed like that. Thanks, Mark
  11. Just downloaded armbian, but there is no wlan0. Looks like there is some mess with driver versions... Am I rigth? Can you update img file? 12. Boot from SD without any problems, then install to NAND (no error)... In NAND boot it comes in the log... (transcription from a photo) [ OK ] Started LSB: Set preliminary keymap. Starting Remount Root and Kernel File Systems... [FAILED] Failed to start Remount Root and Kernel File Systems See 'systemctl status systemd-remount-fs.service' for details. Starting Load/Save Random Seed... [ OK ] Reached target Local File Systems (Pre). Mounting /boot. [ OK ] Started Load/Save Random Seed [ OK ] Mounted /boot. The 'Failed' message is the only error in the log. Problem: Can ssh locally ('ssh localhost') but can't from outside (it shows nothing). ping is responding. If I boot from SD all ok. I upgrade ( 'apt-get upgrade' ) but problem persist. Thank you.
  13. Hi, I've had a PcDuino3 for some time now, but I have barely used it because linksprite work was shoddy; so I never bothered to give the pcduino much time. I Also own a banana pi (A20), an O-DROID XU-4, several rPi's and an Orange Pi PC. All non rPi's are running armbian; you are all awesome for your work! I think I understand this problem with 4.x has something to do with the device tree .dtb files, but no clue what to do to get it to boot and display through HDMI. I'm actually wanting to use it as a headless server, but initial setup requires me to see the screen only because the onboard wifi is not working either (despite manually editing /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf and /etc/network/interfaces with the same settings that work under the 3.x kernel). Any help would be much appreciated. For now I'm just going to re-flash 3.x and use that
  14. hi, having power problems with the two usb ports of my pcduino3 nano, i checked the schematics and it appears the otg port is not powered by the USB_5V rail but directly from the VCC_5V input rail, so i was hoping it would solve my problem. Unfortunately it seems the port acts as an OTG port by default and i can't find a way to restore the otg host mode as advertised in the vanilla kernel features. The documentation only details how to use various OTG modes but not how to revert it back to host. I'm using xenial vanilla image. thank you.
  15. So ARMbian is my preferred OS for the pcduino3 because it outperforms all of the other options. However, I'm having trouble altering the screen resolution. I'm trying to get it set to 1024x768@60p and it's not playing ball. I've edited script.bin and boot.cmd to change the display mode to output mode/type 4 (desired res and VGA mode respectively) but it just goes to a blank screen and refuses to boot when I reboot it. What exactly do I need to do to get this resolution working? If 1024x768@60 isn't an option, I can work with 1280x1024@60 as well, but I'm still clueless as to the necessary steps to take to change it. -edit- Sorry I should add I'm using the jessie desktop legacy build.
  16. Wondering if there's anything similar to retroarch or mednafen that'll work for armbian on a pcduino3? I can't get the former to compile/install and the latter gives me guff about not being able to find a GLX visual when it tries to load video. It's worth noting that I'm pretty green when it comes to Linux, especially when it comes to "exotic"/SoC builds. I have nothing against learning, but I've found the signal-to-noise ratio for this product in particular is very poor and a lot of the info is woefully obsolete.
  17. Hi! I love this Linux distribution, I have tried some months ago and had worked very well. Now, I want install armbian in a pdduino3b, I go to "downloads" select pcduino3, and I have two options: Xenial_server_vanilla and Xenial_server_legacy. I want hardware acceleration and most options of drivers and compatibility possible, so, I go for legacy option. But I realize that the two images have not a desktop environment, this is true? If yes, where can I download the full newer armbian version with legacy kernel and desktop ready? I try install xcfe over legacy image, but I have found for errors like "screen not found" and others... Regards.
  18. Hello, I've just purchased a PCduino3B. I installed Armbian (Jessie Desktop) on it. Since I've done this I have the issue of the HDMI signal dropping out occasionally. This has happened with 2 different HDMI cables and 2 different monitors (one an actual PC monitor, the other my Panasonic Plasma TV). Has anyone else come across this issue before? Is there anything I can check? Also I'm having trouble getting the wired network to connect using the WICD Network Manager (The Wifi connects OK). Is there anything I can check here? I haven't used Linux for many years and am very rusty on troubleshooting issues. Many thanks in advance for your help. No.42
  19. Dear all, I need your help. I've built a fresh pcDuino3 firmware: Armbian 5.14 Pcduino3 -default - Debian 8 Jessie - CLI - Kernel 3.4.112 And now I'm trying to enable UARTs (2, 5 and 6). I've edited script.bin and now I got 4 ttyS devices. Could you please tell me how to "atctivate" those UARTs and which pins shoul I use. I guess that UART2 (ttyS1) uses D0 and D1 pins UART5 (ttyS2) uses SPI0_CS and SPI0_CLK pins UART6 (ttyS3) uses SPI0_MOSI and SPI0_MISO pins Am I right ? And how to enable ttySs? I tried following for the UART2 echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/export echo 25 > /sys/class/gpio/export I attached my fex. file and pcDuino3 schema Unfortunately it does not help me. Thank you in advance. pcDuino3_Schema.pdf script_pcDuinoV3_4UARTs.txt
  20. I am having a problem getting armbian 5.10 trusty to work on my pcduino3 nano lite. I tried both the Vanilla and Legacy kernels of the Trusty server flavor. With the Vanilla kernel I can see the boot process via usb console debug cable but when it gets to extracting kernel I lose output. With the Legacy Kernel via the console debug cable I get this error repeating: init: ttySAC2 main process ended If I try to ssh into root@<ip of pcduino> I get denied with password 1234 Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

  22. Hi Guys, sorry if its a stupid question I have edited the script.fex in the boot folder and enabled the extra uart ports on the board. #dmesg | grep uart [ 0.676838] [uart]: used uart info.: 0x3f [ 0.681530] [uart]: serial probe 0 irq 33 mapbase 0x01c28000 [ 0.707837] sunxi-uart.0: ttyS0 at MMIO 0x1c28000 (irq = 33) is a U6_16550A [ 0.712720] [uart]: serial probe 1 irq 34 mapbase 0x01c28400 [ 0.738944] sunxi-uart.1: ttyS1 at MMIO 0x1c28400 (irq = 34) is a U6_16550A [ 0.743804] [uart]: serial probe 2 irq 35 mapbase 0x01c28800 [ 0.770000] sunxi-uart.2: ttyS2 at MMIO 0x1c28800 (irq = 35) is a U6_16550A [ 0.774874] [uart]: serial probe 3 irq 36 mapbase 0x01c28c00 [ 0.801075] sunxi-uart.3: ttyS3 at MMIO 0x1c28c00 (irq = 36) is a U6_16550A [ 0.805926] [uart]: serial probe 4 irq 49 mapbase 0x01c29000 [ 0.832111] sunxi-uart.4: ttyS4 at MMIO 0x1c29000 (irq = 49) is a U6_16550A [ 0.836977] [uart]: serial probe 5 irq 50 mapbase 0x01c29400 [ 0.863160] sunxi-uart.5: ttyS5 at MMIO 0x1c29400 (irq = 50) is a U6_16550A however i cant appear to use them and any ttl device i plugin wil not send/recv data - is there more i need to do ? on the original pcduino kernel you also had to echo "3" > /sys/device/virtual/misc/gpio/mode/gpio12 to the appropriate pins however this kernel does not appear to have an equivilant ? Thanks.
  23. Hi, back a again for a question. Got an 7" LCD Display connected to my pcDuino with Armbian (Kernel 4.x) and it displays nearly fine on HDMI. First i altered display resolution in /boot(boot.cmd) but i still got "cutted sides" of the display... On my Raspberry with Raspbian i had to alter /boot/config.txt with the foloowing content: # Pollin 7 Zoll Display hdmi_force_hotplug=1 framebuffer_width=1024 framebuffer_height=600 framebuffer_depth=24 hdmi_group=2 hdmi_mode=87 hdmi_cvt=1024 600 60 3 0 0 0 # Pollin Display Ende Where can i do that similar with armbian, think i have to change hdmi_group and hdmi_mode like i did with the raspberry, so that the LCD displays everything correct. Maybe someone could help? Scheik
  24. Hi Igor, I've a Pcduino 3 (not B or nano). Can you build an image for him? .FEX exists (https://github.com/linux-sunxi/sunxi-boards/blob/master/sys_config/a20/linksprite_pcduino3.fex) and I think the difference it's only a patch for GMAC. I'm newbee and I try to install your system on my board but I don't know how... I followed your post on Armbian...I created ' output ' but now? What am I doing? which files write on sdcard and how (dd?) May be I didn't see the tuto after to build image... Best regards JohnGO
