log show 9 apr 2020, but i dont have rom that at 9 apr, perhap it show that because i get it from multitool bash shell, i alway boot with multitool and install with first page instructions. i flashed many box with rk322x but that box is new version with emcp not with emmc and ram separate, and failed :(. after flash and shutdown it cant boot and only go to Mask Rom mode flash one rom with rk322x ( I use H96 Mini H8 rom )  , it can boot and i use Multitool to restore orginal ROM. Perhap i must use libreelec temporary with that box version. thx

Ah ok, now I understand that the four logs you posted before are all produced by the Multitool...!

I never encountered any box with eMCP. Looking at the Multitool log, both eMMC and DRAM parts of eMCP are detected and everything is working as usual. It is possible that the problem involves u-boot somehow, so the serial log would be really useful to understand what is really going on.

As long as you can flash the image using the regular instructions means that the kernel is able to use the eMCP the same way it does with eMMC with no differences, and the fact that LibreELEC works proves this also.

If you could share the serial log, the original firmware (or the device tree binary/source), and some photos of board and chips I can try to guess what is going on.

your bootloader is ok,i have two same boxes,the other is bricked before i get it,i try rk factory tools,it failed also,the RK factory tools manual said this situation maybe emmc is broken. unless i replace emmc,but it is difficult. thk for your reply

I don't think that the eMMC is broken, I have a bad feeling that something is still wrong with memory initialization. Only the serial debug log can tell us what is really going on.

As usual, original dtb, photos and serial log are useful.

I used that rom to restore with MASK Rom mode: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1mxqba_lReweZw9IQCfI_LceVfj2nUYj7

If you ran rk322x-config, it automatically added wlan-esp8089 overlay, but on your board the dtbo misconfigures the power on pin of the wifi chip.

What you can do is remove wlan-esp8089 from overlays= line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and then reboot.

It should work automatically, no need to manually load the driver.

From the photo you posted, it looks to me that the crystal is 26Mhz, so the option should be set to 1

Modprobe the module is useless if the module is already loaded during boot, you have to change the value in /etc/modprobe.d/esp8089.conf and then reboot.

Also please provide the full dmesg log in a spoiler section, few lines don't help at all.

@Hoangtnt Nguyen

Hmm, the problem is that the wifi chip is not detected at all, in fact you can see that the mmc1 device is probed four times and then the kernel gives up.

Are you sure you removed the wlan-esp8089 overlay from /boot/armbianEnv.txt?

I need to check better the device tree because I may have missed something, I'll do that in a few hours!

yes, i removed wlan-esp8089 overlay from /boot/armbianEnv.txt. I notice when it boot 1st when i type rk322x-config. it show: Wifi Device: not available

I took a look into the original dtb and the configuration looks the same to me. There is something I can't spot that turns off the wifi.

Also the wifi device: not available on first reboot means that there is really something missing

Hallo team

first thanks for the good work

i am now a long time active with balbes150 on the Amlogic S805/S812 forum side , but last week i bought two Rockchip box for small amount .

i am very happy for this good support on this box

my box Leelbox Q2 Pro RK3229 2gb ddr3 / 16GB emmc , Ap6255

but i have two problems

first is that both trigger of the rk322x-config tool ->emmc and nand  are stop the initramfs  script to boot the box i always get stuck that the uuid of emmc is missing or incorrect ,

without the emmc or nand config the box works great  !!!!

secound the high idle temperature of the box , i have long time a M8S Box with a Amlogic S812 and the idle temp is around 30-35 celcius , this rockchip box are idle at around 55-60 celcius , some load and the box hit the 75 celcius and shut down ( also the other rockchip box with rk3328 idle around 55 celcius on android)  is that normal or do i have a faulty chip ?

both problem on latest buster minimal 20.04 kernel 5.10  and bionic desktop 20.04 kernel 5.10 rom

i dont use the lagecy kernel 4.4 rom because i didnt not get wifi running

Hi @Hoangtnt Nguyen, I searched through the dtb for some faults but everything looks correct to me.

The fact that rk322x-config does not show you the wifi device means that it is not properly powered, so the kernel is not even able to discover it.

Looking at the original android log you provided I stumbled upon something suspicious, so I ask you to replace /boot/dtb/rk322x-box.dtb with this one: rk322x-box.dtb and then reboot

rk322x-config proposes three choices, the first one (eMMC or NAND) is the most compatible but does not enable any optional speed optimization;

The second choice (eMMC) enables DDR mode for eMMC, but not all boards are able to drive the eMMC this way.

The third choice (NAND) disables the eMMC at all and enables the NAND gpio pins configuration for use with NAND only.

The "high" idle temperature is quite normal; many things influence it, from the manufacturing process to the position of the thermistor on the SoC die, to the board dissipation capacity and ambient temperature. Yours is pretty in the average (a board I have here is idling at 52°C with 20°C ambient temperature). it is not an absolute temperature and cannot be related among various chips even from the same manufacturer.

The abnormal thing is that it shut downs at 75°C: the shutdown temperature is configured in the dtb to 120°C and there are various trip points in the middle (the first one is at 90°C) that reduce the maximum frequency to prevent overheating.

Boxes I have here, but also some from other people reporting around, can go above 90°C with no particular issues.

The original dtb of your box may be helpful to understand if your board has particular settings or gpio configurations. Photos of the board are always welcome!

if you have original rom image you can use some tools  ( if you scroll and read the whole 3ad those tools have been published several times ) to extract the dtb .
Not sure i those tools work even on a backup img but I guess yes !
It seems to me it is a board sometimes called SARDINE :) , I have on but different wifi, all is working on mine
About temperature .. put finger CLOSE to  heatsink or even touch it .. if you are not burned and feel the temperature quite confortable, well is just an error in temperature reading.
Consider that temperature higher of 60 celsius are unconfortable for persons

@fabiobassa thanks for fast answer ,  i know some tools from amlogic when android still at internal memoryy ->read boot partition , extract file , convert dtb to dts . but i have no instruction for read boot partition from a image  ( and no i have no orginal image leelbox-tech.com is only a placeholder) , i have also no clou how read that from backup file

my infrared thermo meter say also around 45-50 degree , also my finger say it get warm

I know that tools for amlogic too and those mentioned in this 3ad aren't so different. Basically they " open" the img by searching some " headers" in the bin and extract the righ information.

Scroll back to  search for these tools on this forum and give them a try on the backup you have . I guess something will come out

About 45/50 is ok then the strike points for temperature protection are already been mentioned by @jock

@Hoangtnt Nguyen I'm sorry it did not work, I really can't try anything more to help without having the board on my desk :(

@RaptorSDSI took a quick look at the dts you provided, it looks quite usual to me, the shutdown temperature is set to 120°C in the original dts too. It looks very strange the board shuts down at 75°C, even because that temperature is not set anywhere in the dtb or in the linux system.

You board (T95N_RK3229) is similar to another one we encountered in the past from @Maker39 (see this post https://forum.armbian.com/profile/14842-maker39/), but he never told about temperature issues so far.

I buy a TV Box Mxq pro 4k 5G, Soc Rk3229. I chose model 4GB Ram and 32GB Rom (emmc).

First time I turn on it and run Android OS, I install Cpu-z tool in this Android and check, it's correct that it has 4GB Ram and 32GB Rom

But after I install Armbian OS in emmc, and login in Armbian screen, it shows system has only 1GB Ram and 8GB Rom. So why are they (ram and rom) are difference like that?
Tks and Best regards

You may be right. I bought it via shop online from China.

But why I check in CPU-Z app in its original Android firmware, CPU-Z still shows 4G/32G ?

You should ask to the online shop from China, I have my own personal opinion but I like the keep it for mine.

Sometimes disreputable manufacturers will modify the kernel in the android firmware to provide false information. (easy way to cut costs by not actually including the memory/storage advertized).

This is only for Ubuntu Focal Legacy 4.4.194 Kernel builds.

<thanks>

Hey @jock, let me start by saying I love you. Thank you so much for this. I know it is not only you, but still: huge thanks!</thanks>

<purpose>

Now, I am VERY new to linux. I have been reading and researching for the past month about setting up Linux on a TV Box and I'm typing this from a rk322x (possibly 3228a) thanks to the efforts of you amazing guys. My purpose is to have it as an "usable" desktop. I know, probably hard, too slow and all that. I get it. But I am managing. I can watch YouTube at 360p, browse the web... It's a work in progress and I think I'm going places. I am running Debian Legacy with iceWM (well, it's not well configured but it's something to start!)</purpose>

<questions>

But I am struggling with videos. I tried using Focal Legacy but it is not worth it, it's just too slow.

  1. Is there a way to use your media framework on Debian legacy? I tried but it doesn't install.
  2. Also, if it is not too much to ask, is there a trusty tutorial on overclocking the CPU/GPU/RAM? It may not be worth it nor make a significant difference, but then again it might!

I even might have something to add: running the rk322x-config is a MUST to enable the ssv6051p. However, regardless of what I choose, it will always force me back to a "UUID=xxx does not exist Dropping to a shell" boot error (and I tried a shit ton of combinations...). Yet, I figured out that if I edit "/boot/armbianEnv.txt" right after running rk322x-config and delete whatever "overlays" line is there, I "fix" it: Wi-Fi works and I can boot normally! Not a single clue as to why it happens, but hope this can help someone...</tip>
