forever_ noob
There is a patched version that enables noscan=1 , but the one I'm using seems like it hasn't been patched. When there is no AP's around HT40 kicks in ok without noscan=1. With noscan=1 and AP's are around hostapd won't even start in HT20 mode. Any help? root@orangepilite2:~# modinfo 88x2bu|grep version: version: v5.8.7.1_35809.20191129_COEX20191120-7777 srcversion: 43C721C4A870A632EBDE0B5 parm: rtw_chip_version:int root@orangepilite2:~# uname -a && hostapd -v Linux orangepilite2 5.4.43-sunxi64 #20.05.2 SMP Tue Jun 2 17:20:17 CEST 2020 aarch64 GNU/Linux hostapd v2.9 User space daemon for IEEE 802.11 AP management, IEEE 802.1X/WPA/WPA2/EAP/RADIUS Authenticator Copyright (c) 2002-2019, Jouni Malinen <j@w1.fi> and contributors
sfx2000
the noscan=1 patch take the AP out of compliance with 802.11 simply put - I could fix it, but not inclined to do so... root@cbsim:/etc/config# modinfo ath9k module: /lib/modules/5.4.65/ath9k.ko license: Dual BSD/GPL depends: mac80211,ath9k_hw,ath9k_common,compat,cfg80211,ath name: ath9k vermagic: 5.4.65 mod_unload MIPS32_R2 32BIT root@cbsim:/etc/config# uname -a && hostapd -v Linux cbsim 5.4.65 #0 Sun Sep 13 22:19:27 2020 mips GNU/Linux hostapd v2.10-devel User space daemon for IEEE 802.11 AP management, IEEE 802.1X/WPA/WPA2/EAP/RADIUS Authenticator Copyright (c) 2002-2019, Jouni Malinen <j@w1.fi> and contributors
Werner
Providing logs with armbianmonitor -u significantly raises chances that issue is getting addressed.
forever_ noob
Thanks guys! @sfx2000, are you suggesting me to go with hostapd v2.10-devel and it would work? @Werner, here's the armbianmonitor -u http://ix.io/2x61 root@orangepilite2:~# hostapd /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf Configuration file: /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf Line 9: unknown configuration item 'noscan ' 1 errors found in configuration file '/etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf' Failed to set up interface with /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf Failed to initialize interface
Igor
In case if it doesn't work, check here: https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/master/packages/extras-buildpkgs/hostapd/debian and build from sources. But its possible that noscan need some code adjustment due to upstream changes: https://w1.fi/cgit/hostap/
forever_ noob
@Igor , in a nutshell, to be safe it would work, I have to find source code for the hostapd 2.6, put your patches in that project and compile it? Does that patched hostapd 2.6 already exists so that I can skip all the hassle of compiling I'm not familiar with, like a *.deb file?

No, I think the exact problem is as I describe it, but I don't plan to dig into that anytime soon. You can also later fix our scripts and save us some hassle
Matthai
I had the same issue after upgrade and I just removed noscan=1 option from hostapd.conf. BTW, here is the listing from armbianmonitor, if anyone finds it useful: http://ix.io/3xDv
