main spec:

* Amlogic S905X3 Quad-Core Cortex-A55 (2.0xxGHz) Processor
* Mali-G31 GPU
* 4GB LPDDR4
* 16GB eMMC flash on board.
* 4 USB 3.0 port
* 1 GbE LAN por
* HDMI output

Nice board. Clean and simple.
I like this SoC a lot, very power efficient and good thermals.

What will be the price? When will it be sold?
I'd like to see wifi/BT on-board. But not everyone needs that for their tasks, I understand why not to have it.
I also like to have a barrel jack for power. Type-C is ok. But still a lot of issue's with bad cables and bad contacts.

Good luck.

Agreed.

Also curios about the USB3 performance. I learned about bad performance with the N2+ and wonder how they do on this board.

The BPi M5 is just an ODROID C4 clone (check also the serial console output in the wall of text above) so simply look there. They even took the same VL817 hub (a way better choice than the Genesis Logic thingy on the N2+) but of course decided to change the power circuitry so that their users suffer from the usual Banana undervoltage drama (unlike the C4 which is up to the task powering a number of USB3 consumers with stable 5V unlike the M5 here).

Oh wow.... :o

Thanks for sharing this info.

Welp, nothing much to add here...

Lion, thanks for your input and facts.

Does it come with a heat-sink?

What remains is, when will it be available?

Are there pre-production Beta parts available now?

Thanks, Jon

PS BTW, it looks to me that the Odroid C4 only has a eMMC socket, not onboard flash. So this can raise the price of a "running" system

by yet another 12.90 USD minimum. Yes the socket will allow more options (8, 16 32 and 64GB), but it comes at a price.

BPI M2 Pro, Amlogic S905X3 on sale right now on Aliexpress.

About 52€ plus shipping.

Amlogic S905X3 + Mali-G31 GPU

2GB LPDDR4

16GB eMMC flash

2 USB 3,0

RT8821CU WiFi + BT 4,2 on board

1 GbE ethernet

HDMI

The form factor and port situation is good, more or less like many Android TV box without case.

I tried to troubleshoot some USB throughput issues with the M2 Pro unit and possibly narrowed it down to all USB ports apparently being on the same USB 2.0 Bus:

lsusb -t
/:  Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/1p, 5000M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 5000M
/:  Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, Class=root_hub, Driver=xhci-hcd/2p, 480M
    |__ Port 1: Dev 2, If 0, Class=Hub, Driver=hub/4p, 480M
        |__ Port 2: Dev 4, If 0, Class=Wireless, Driver=btusb, 480M
        |__ Port 2: Dev 4, If 1, Class=Wireless, Driver=btusb, 480M
        |__ Port 2: Dev 4, If 2, Class=Vendor Specific Class, Driver=rtl8821cu, 480M

From lsusb -v USB HUBs look like this:

Bus 002 Device 002: ID 2109:0817 VIA Labs, Inc. USB3.0 Hub

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 2109:2817 VIA Labs, Inc. USB2.0 Hub

While plugging things into various ports on the board this is what they layout looks like:

1-1.1 - bottom USB
1-1.2 - WiFi
1-1.4 - top USB
1-2 - OTG

Everything is tied to Bus 01.

There does not appear to be anything on the Bus 02 , which is what apparently actually is the USB 3.0 (5000M).

I am a tiny bit out of my depth here, am I reading the output right? Is the M2 board design really broken?

The same layout as Jan Gregor showed is also on the M5.

Additionally, it seems the SD card is not being reset by BL2 (maybe not possible?) when the OS initiates a reboot. Then it doesn't find the SD card anymore and can't continue booting. :(

I tested SanDisk Ultra 128GB, Kingston 16 GB SDCA 10/16GB, Intenso Class 10 64 GB, all with the same problem.
