Which kernel is the armbian supported one for OPI Zero H2?

Armbianmonitor:

I'm on a years old Orange pi zero H2, an often forgotten single purpose print/scan server board.

So i want to upgrade to the latest kernel via armbian-config->system->other(switch kernel).

Previously its on 4.19.

so when i tried to change to current 5.8.16, 5.8.14, 5.8.12 & 5.8.5,  i got "No end-user support: unsupported (stretch) userspace!"

it has taken me an hours plus just switching kernel, hoping to find the supported ones.

though i dont mind unsupported / legacy kernel, i still prefer the latest supported ones.

Is any of the kernel on the list supported?

if there none on the list, is there a way to add a supported kernel?

or change back to 4.19?

Is not kernel. That is Debian base which is getting old / obsolete / out of support. Kernel (hardware interface layer) - on the other hand - you are already on latest.

I had two questions, which were mostly for my own education:

1. I don't see "Orange Pi Zero H2" listed at all on Downloads page for Orangepi, although I see several very similarly named boards (but no exact match).[0]  Is OP's board same as "Orange Pi Zero 2" or one of the others?  Or not?

2. Maybe dumb question, but how is it possible that kernel, drivers, etc. can be on mainline (latest kernel) but userspace would not work?  In other words, why would upgrade from Stretch to Buster not be supported if "userspace is upstream Debian anyway" as I often tell people?

[0] This is one of things which drive me nuts about SBCs in general, there is often such similar naming which makes it at times confusing what board someone is referring to.

OK, so it is simply regular "Orange Pi Zero" which has "H2" chip.  Obvious now when I follow your link, and see the large photo.  :D  Thanks, Martin.

A few years in now and I still don't know all these boards, even though I have broaden my own horizons a lot by moderating forums.

Other (perhaps more complicated) question #2 remains, for anyone keeping score at home.  ;)

Distro upgrades like from Bionic to Focal or Stretch to Buster are neither tested nor supported. Backup is highly recommended when trying to do that.

Yeah mos def. luckily its just a print server. not much to backup.

may be the upgrade it self that is not supported, rather than the user space.

oh well i'll just take the plunge and see whats what.

Welcome to Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) with Linux 5.8.16-sunxi

No end-user support: unsupported (stretch) userspace!

why am i still on stretch user space?

what did i do wrong?

Most likely nothing and your upgrade went fine. But as mentioned distro upgrades are not supported (simply due to lack of (human) resources) and this tells us that such an upgrade has been performed which could cause unknown issues.
