Unable to boot in Recovery Mode after factory reset

Hi everyone!

I have been reading a lot of topics here and is definitely helpful but I'm no expert nor experienced in this area. I know the basics and stuff but that is as far as I can go. A little bit of history to help with the issue.

I tried to do a factory reset via the recovery mode for my RK 3229 but did not finish. I then received the following messages every time I try to access the Recovery mode:

E:failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)
E:failed to mount /metadata (Invalid argument)
Supported API: 3
E:failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)
E:Can ́t mount /cache/recovery/last_locale

I read a topic that points me to @jock pinned post about the RK 322x boxes but got overwhelmed with info and is not sure what to do. If anyone can point me to the right direction, that will be greatly appreciated.

What I did so far is to prep an SD card with the Multitool and is currently downloading an Armbian image from this site (https://www.armbian.com/rk322x-tv-box/#kernels-archive-all). I chose to download the (Armbian Buster: minimal mainline based kernel 5.10.y) and is hoping is the correct one for my box. I'll also share the pics of my board and any relevant details that can help (hopefully!).

Apologies for the links, not sure what image URL is accepted by I tried different ones and it does not seem to be showing.

Hoping to get help on this and thank you in advance!

Dan

Hello,

you didn't say what you want to do with your box.

If you want to restore android, this is totally the wrong place.

If you want to install/try armbian (and wipe out android), the other thread you already found has clear and simple step-by-step instructions on what to do for that.

ps: link to the photos are not working

Thank you for the reply @jock, sorry I missed that part. Just wanted to give you an update on this.

My main goal was to see if I can still use this box to watch movie streams like Netflix since it has been boot looping in it's android OS. So I followed your instructions to try Armbian and was able to get the SD card working but not the eMMC. I think it's shot and may need to do the screwdriver thing because the instructions to install in eMMC using multitool does not work, it just not power on. But my comfortability on that matter is zero.

I guess the main question is, once Armbian is setup and working via the SD card on that box, what's next? After following and completing the instructions, I'm clueless of what I need to do to be able to get to the goal. This part is what I'm hoping you can shed some light since I'm almost ready to give up with that box.

I understand. Well, if you don't have any experience with Linux, it will be hard to suggest you to do anything valuable with such box.

Surely Armbian, at the current state, is probably not going to be a good experience with netflix, multimedia things are still trying to get sorted out. Maybe you would give a look to LibreELEC, if your purpose is mainly multimedia.
