Hi,

my configuration is: Asus 5V 2A power adapter with usb to 1,7mm cable, Kingston microsd 16GB class 10 with Jessie desktop

I can SSH the OPi so I can use H3disp

output to HDMI (TV) works fine

output to HDMI -> DVI to PC monitor works fine

is it possible to use HDMI adapter to DVI, DVI to VGA and get the image to a PC monitor via VGA?

i tried it using -d switch but nothing shown on monitor,

do I need any special command? or this is not possible at all?

please advice,

Thanks

No. HDMI signal is digital, DVI can be either digital only (DVI-D) or digital+analog (DVI-I) and VGA is analog only. All passive HDMI to DVI adapters provide only digital signal (as far as I know), so unless you buy active DVI-D to VGA converter like this or this you won't get any signal on VGA monitor, but at that point you may want to buy HDMI to VGA converter instead.

Thanks guys!

I will buy the converter BUT I wonder why simple DVI -> VGA adapter work for use it to get output from an ASUS Eee to my VGA monitor?

like this one : https://goo.gl/g2dAqA

by the way I suppose this https://goo.gl/pWJlH1  won't work it says : a signal conversion box is required

but this should right?

https://goo.gl/MXKHg4

it says Built-in converter chip, support hot plugging

I Don't need the sound

Because your laptop has DVI-I output, which has analog signal in addition to digital. If it had DVI-D output, you would not be able to insert your DVI to VGA adapter: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#/media/File:DVI_Connector_Types.svg
