Clean install Odroidc2 Armbian 5.21 and upgrade to 5.23 to eMMC blue solid light after rebooting 2 times

did a clean install of Armbian_5.21_Odroidc2_Debian_jessie_3.14.79.img

when i today apt-get upgrade to Armbian 5.23 the same problem occured on the eMMC after rebooting the system 2 times.

 

did the same install on a micro-sd card 1 UHS no problem :S

 

it appears to happen every time on a Armbian version upgrade.

 

Please HELP!

We used to have this problem:

I fixed the image afterwards. Are you using some self build or previously downloaded image? What I did today was - download Armbian_5.21_Odroidc2_Debian_jessie_3.14.79.7z - burn to eMMC - upgrade and several reboots. Everything is normal.

Hello, I'm new here and new to armbian,too.

 

I have exactly same error. Clean install of 5.21 and I can reboot and shutdown any times. After running apt-get upgrade I can restart once, the second time it hangs.

 

I've noticed this error during upgrade:

I fixed the image afterwards. Are you using some self build or previously downloaded image? What I did today was - download Armbian_5.21_Odroidc2_Debian_jessie_3.14.79.7z - burn to eMMC - upgrade and several reboots. Everything is normal.

I know i reported it last time.

I use the 5.21 image from the site (not self build) clean install sudo dd if of bla

apt-get update apt-get upgrade

Reboot first time no problem

Reboot second time blue solid light

This is normal since we have a FAT boot partition where links don't work and it's copied in this case. Perhaps we could suppress the error once.

Hello

 

I'am facing the same problem on my odriodc2 board. Installed 2 times according to the instructions given in post #6.

16 GB eMMC card setup with microSD Card Reader from hardkernel.

Unfortunately, i don't have a serial adapter to provide detailed boot logs.

Currently, i'am trying to set the eMMC up with nand-sata-install script. See wether it makes any differences.

I am experiencing exactly the same issue with my C2, booting form eMMC, upgrading and rebooting twice.

 

I have completely disabled the video system in boot.ini since you indicated above it might be connected to the video system. The problem still persists.

I have downloaded the beat image for Odroid C2, burned it onto the eMMC module using Etcher and booted the device.

Everything seems to work fine, apt-get update / upgrade do not show any updates besides some unimportant libraries.

Rebooting twice, three times, ... works all fine.

 

Can you draw any conclusion from this?

Will there be an updated headless Debian Jessie image any time soon?

  • Fresh install of Jessie Server, 5.21 image
  • boot
  • apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade
  • apt-get install linux-firmware-image-odroidc2
  • reboot -> everything allright
  • reboot -> blue light, stuck at boot

Yes, this is known to break on some boards withing eMMC. Please try images from beta section since they are done differently.

Hi Igor,

 

as stated above, beta image works fine (the 5.24 Xenial Image).

 

I'd love to run a headless Debian Jessie, but there is no image yet. Do you have an estimate on when you will be able to release it?

Hmm sorry about that. It must have been that combined with something else I did because one of my boards is working and the others ran into this same issue. 

 

Edit:

I putzed around a bit more and found that running 

apt-get install --reinstall linux-dtb-odroidc2 linux-firmware-image-odroidc2 linux-headers-odroidc2 linux-image-odroidc2 linux-jessie-root-odroidc2 linux-u-boot-odroidc2-default

after the upgrade seems to get it working.

 

It is probably best to wait for Igor to fix things though :)

@andrwmorph indeed, reinstalling all packages resolves the problem for me. Thanks for sharing!

 

@Igor: any news with the packages? Do you expect any problems if I now install 5.21 from the Debian Jessie image, upgrade with above method, and later on update to 5.24 once you have it released?

It looks like the problem is related with partition resizing. In this case, better start with a new image ... when it will be updated, or build from sources. It's fixed there.
