Support for custom resolution 1680x1050

Try to use the utility named 'h3disp', it sets the display resolution, running it without arguments it will show you the available options, then you choose what to set as resolution with its command line parameter. This will be a permanent setting and needs a reboot to be applied.

I tried sudo h3disp -m 36 which according h3disp is 1680x1050 but my monitor showed only a message that this is not supported. using sudo h3disp -m 10 sets stuff outside the screen which is a bit annoying. I suspect that the 1680x1050 is not 60Hz or is otherwise imcompatible. Any suggestions?
