zador.blood.stained Posted April 28, 2017 Share Posted April 28, 2017 Initrd is an init ramdisk, it is used at an early boot stage by the kernel. You can "use" it only for an emergency/rescue shell for debugging boot related problems and can't use it without the kernel (zImage). If you want to use rootfs on RAM then it's not related to initrd, but to a solutions like overlayroot, which was discussed several times already.
