are you using a armbian-Linux? https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-one/
For the Orange Pi One there is only a legacy kernel 3.x and you got 4.11.12

h3disp isnt available in othe linux distros - I think.

It could update DEV kernel ... but anyway this utility is only for kernel 3.4.y

The more recent kernel 4.13.y has EDID auto detection while 4.11.y is already deprecated / EOL - we don't deal with it anymore.

Now I see clear: I used the Ubuntu_xenial_dev_nightly form https://dl.armbian.com/orangepione/

I'll wait for it

Tnx L

P.S. The 4.11 makes the CPU temperature much lower than the 3.4, when idle, it is 31°C vs 45°C

h3disp is only supported and needed with H3 legacy kernel. I started with this stuff a while before Armbian supported H3 boards so it's meant to work on all legacy kernel based OS images everywhere (even on really old OS images for Orange Pi from 2015). We kept the code this way to search for the file to patch so it's ensured it can still work everywhere (though then also needing our modified HDMI driver for legacy kernel with the additional modes patched in).

That said h3disp code works fine on all community H3 images I ever tested, on community developed H3Droid (a better Android for H3 devices), on all FriendlyELEC and Xunlong images for these boards. Just one fruit pi vendor (the one who never listens) managed to move this file to a location where it can't be found (told them multiple times, got ignored multiple times)
