Yep. but it have other "magic" setting if video don't have same resolution as screen or play it in window, we can use fast scaler --sws-scaler=fast-bilinear With software decoding we haven't hw scaler and by default scaler in mpv very demanding of resources..

Spoiler

@balbes150

Spoiler

upd

Spoiler

1.msowldF.png

2. tKSCmDQ.png

https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=140&t=30724&sid=61c5b04b4100ee8c9fcc76a229a00b4b

I may have "psychological glitches" but I have a feeling that the image version is 20180817 (after adding the settings file" /etc/mpv.conf") works better. Videos play smoothly, and in the version 20180819 there are noticeable artifacts. This is just me, isn't it ?

It's not a glitch. :)

I have a USB system 5.55 (presumably this is version 20180817, but it is not accurate). I don't remember exactly what actions I was doing with it, copied it and changed the advanced settings etc. But the fact is, it has 1080p video running smoothly, without friezes and brakes on the VIM2 S912. My test videos with 4K also work with almost no brakes, there are microfreezes that I write off to the USB drive from which I run it. In this version, the "mpv" itself differs in behavior, if during playback , move the mouse in the video window, there are no fading playback, which are typical when working in other images.

Image update 5.55 (20180819).

Looks like any player don't see vaapi backend... If it use custom decoder lib? first need set path to libva and set LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME as  environment variable. Still trying find solution. And in any case we need change --vo from default opengl to x11, wayland or other... no mater software decoding or v4l2_m2m,

Spoiler

vainfo
libva info: VA-API version 1.1.0
libva info: va_getDriverName() returns -1
libva error: va_getDriverName() failed with unknown libva error,driver_name=(null)
vaInitialize failed with error code -1 (unknown libva error),exit

Hi,

On X92 S912 Box i do not get the UI to start anymore with the newer releases.

After initial script asking for the user details, screen is only flashing between mangled text and blank, like x11 starting crashing starting...

With 4.18-rc5 kernel it was working.

Use the correct dtb.

Used the corresponding q201 dtb that came with the image file.

On the VIM2 everything is working correctly. Try downloading the image again and rewriting the media.

How can I scale up the whole DE ? I have a 4k screen and everything looks so small, increasing font DPI doesn't give very good results

In the settings screen, change the settings to a lower resolution (1920x1080).

Thanks, that fixed the issue to an extent.

After some reading it seems like Xfce doesn't have the best support for HIDPI, big screens (mine is 55") and a better choice would be cinnamon or Enlightenment 18

Hi,

I'm trying to build a custom kernel and boot it using the rootfs provided by the Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.18.0 image.

I compiled the kernel from torvalds tree (after applying the text_offset patch of course) and used your config (https://github.com/150balbes/Build-Armbian/blob/master/config/kernel/linux-aml-s9xxx-default.config)

but the kernel get's stuck when it reaches userspace

Hey,

i have a problem with 4.18 kernel version on H96 Pro Plus. It's not booting from usb. Stuck with "no signal" on the display. Kernel 3.14 was ok with "gxm_q201_3g.dtb". Any advices?

Exactly same behaviour here. Had to use the 3.14 kernel version from 4.44

I've compiled the kernel successfully from Torvalds tree by using the next config instead of the default, I've applied Maxime v4l2-m2m patches and I get video decoder but it doesn't really work when playing files, as far as I can see it only works with FFmpeg when dumping raw frames.

@Shimon or anybody else, does someone knows which dtb should be used for h96+ S912 box with 4.1x kernel ?

I tried to install the usb_modeswitch package on ubuntu bionic 3.14 kernel. It work, but after restarting, I cannit boot anymore, there is an exception during boot.

Thank you in advance for your help

I'm experiencing problem installing Armbian 5.59 / 4.18 based on Ubuntu Bionic on my H96 Pro (s912 3/16) using (presumably correct) gxm_q200 dtb from image  - amlogic logo goes away after some time and then appears again in endless loop. Strange thing is that the same 5.59 / 4.18 based on xenial with the same dtb boots just fine. Not a big deal since xenial is also ok for me too

I downloaded latest image, bionic desktop with 4.18 kernel , copied dtb, pasted it to root folder, renamed it to dtb.img, and i still don’t have wifi network.

I did even try to load modules, modprobe wifi_dummy and modprobe dhd, as root of course, nothing worked.

Balbes wrote that Vim wifi was fixed in this version, my Vim doesn't show anything, i've tried dtb from both folders, nothing worked.

Device is Vim1 pro.

Hi Balbes,

great work with your images. I´m trying to use them with serial device which requires CONFIG_USB_ACM configured in the kernel. It was setup on 3.1X versions of your images but it´s not on this ones.  Could you enable it please?

Thanks

@balbes150 We should make a repository for our custom packages and add them to apt lists, it doesn't make sense to reflash the image or manually downloading and installing deb packages every time the kernel gets updated, I think we can use SourceForge to host the packages for free.
