Cubietruck - which image to chooe?

over year end I tried to re-set up my 2 cubietrucks , one as a a: music machine b) server.

a) Pity is, Volumio is no longer available for Cubietruck - anyone has a later image than 2.118? Any other proposal?

b) When trying to find a workable image for Igors selection, I figured that I run into issues with all of them.

Test 1
Armbian_5.69_Cubietruck_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.13.img
boots
initial input on hdmi, then neither on hdmi nor on VGA  ????
ssh works, login as root works

sudo armbian-config
Boot from SD - system on hdd - works

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
boot from SD - works, but still 'headless', no signal to hdmi or VGA

-> server starts, but no signal to VGA or HDMI?

Test 2 Same effect with  Armbian_5.69_Cubietruck_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.13.img

Test 3 (for some reason I like to use NAND more than SD)

Armbian_5.59_Cubietruck_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113_desktop.img
boots
initial input on hdmi, then hdmi works
ssh works, login as root works
sudo armbian-config
boot from nand - system on hdd -> works
initial input on hdmi, then hdmi works
sudo armbian-config - apt-get update and upgrade
does not boot any more

-> server starts, but corrupts after first apt-get upgrade?

Test 4 same effect with Armbian_5.35_Cubietruck_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113_desktop.img

Any idea? What did I miss?

- screen must be attached at boot time.

- if you use some HDMI2VGA converter you might have problems

- images were tested many times and they work fine

- NAND is less reliable than a modern SD card and not supported in modern kernel
