  1. I've had a 100% stable system for 16 days now, no cpufreq tweaks, only vanilla armbian config (+zram though).

    17:32:07 up 16 days, 20:13,  1 user,  load average: 0,12, 0,17, 0,14

    Using this kernel:

    5.10.21-rockchip64

    And I've _never_ gotten the red led blink when my system froze. Have you tried different or fewer drives?

    Also remove any vdd voltage tweak you might have put in /boot/boot.cmd. If you had vdd tweak you will need to rebuild u-boot boot script after removing the lines in /boot/boot.cmd

    Let us know how the new kernel improves the stability.

    I did a dist-upgrade yesterday, and I've had two freezes since then due to high IO (probably). But I've reverted the cpufreq tweaks now (ondemand+min/max 400000/1800000), and I never enabled he vdd tweaks in boot.cmd, so there wasn't anything to revert. So we'll see how it goes, I'll try to put a lot of IO load on it the coming days.

    Otherwise, on my side, it is 100% clear that in my situation the freezes are not related to disk I/O : i have nearly nothing in crontab, and i'm encountering some freezes during the night, with 0 CPU activity / 0 disk usage (and as said before, i have nearly no processes configured outside MDADM, SSH, and NETDATA).

    Are you getting data corruption due to the freezes, I mean broken raids or checksum errors if it's zfs?

    I can provoke a freeze by loading with a lot of IO+CPU at will, so I think the dev's have a real challenge ahead both separating the issues and troubleshooting them.

    I've lowered the cpufreq min/max to 800mhz now, and max download speed to 7MB/s, hoping that will perhaps help.

  5. I seem to have freezes as well. I stayed on the recommended release with zero updates from the default installation. I'm running Sonarr, Radarr, Jackett, Transmission, Samba, NFS server and Zram swap.

    It seems like when I do a lot of I/O and put a high load on the cpu, the system just freezes. There's nothing in the syslog but I haven't looked in the serial console.

    I'm only running SSD's in this machine, so there's no shortage of bandwidth on the drives. If there's no load, I haven't had one freeze at all. Medium load doesn't seem to be an issue either.

    Has anyone tried adding active cooling on the cpu?

    I'm guessing this is the same issue that was posted about on the 27th of October in the blog, why hasn't there been an update on it?

     

    And for the mods: how can I remove this forum posting limitation, like one post per week or something?

  6. What was your speed when the disks were mounted in a different machine?

    7,2rpm sata drives usually sustain these kind of numbers for sequential reads and writes, more speed can be attained by adding more spindles (drives). Although I think your read speed potential should be a bit higher. Try piping a file to /dev/null to measure the real read speed of one disk first and piping /dev/zero (make it larger than the cache) to a file on that disk or another disk to get the max write speed.
