A bit more testing info ... Also confirmed that sound will only be output on the HDMI monitor with speakers connected. There is no double route to both the HDMI and the Audio Jack. I would prefer the Audio Jack setting. The Pulse Audio Volume Control only has one Analog Output Port Selection.
