I seem to have the same x96q v5.1 board as @Trauma.
He reported some time ago that your x98h image runs as intended on the x96q v5.1 board if the following patch is applied:

Although the v5.1 image from @sicxnull does work as well including ethernet and wifi, I would also prefer the more recent armbian version.
Can you briefly explain the steps necessary to build a corresponding image for the x96q v5.1?
