  1. Hi friends, I am using armbian on orangepi lite and it is brilliant! My orange pi zero is on the way. One question - sometimes I want to make wifi AP from my armbian and sometimes I want armbian to be wifi client. Now it connects successfully to my wifi as a client. I am looking for terminal commands to switch between modes (AP vs. client) on the fly. Any ideas how to do it? Ideally I would like to run two commands: - one command to act as wifi AP (with specified wifi name, password, etc.) - second command to act as wifi client (to connect to specific network with password, etc.) Any idea how to do it, please? P.S. LAN port (on orange pi zero) should always stay as client (in case wifi goes wrong to be able to simply connect via LAN cable).
  2. Dear experts. I'm using Armbian_5.20_Orangepilite_Debian_jessie_3.4.112 image on a Orange Pi Lite. I used a serial console to operate. I can't see boot message after initial boot up from console, but it outputs to HDMI display tty1 instead. How can I change it back to serial or have both to display boot message?
  3. I have a non compliant usb device that I want to work with my Orange Pi Lite board. I know how to make it work under Arch linux. For that I need to edit source for the usb generic hid driver (kernel/drivers/hid/hid-core.c), recompile the usb kernel module and reinstall it to intramfs (mkinitcpio -p linux). To recompile kernel module I followed this guide: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compile_kernel_module What procedure do I need to follow under Armbian? One way is to set up a development environment on a PC, with Virtual Box running Ubuntu Xenial, etc. Recompile the whole armbian and copy the compiled kernel module over to Orange Pi Lite. But it takes a long time. Is there any way to recompile a kernel modue directly on the board? Thanks for your time.
  4. I configured the on board wifi access point on my Orange Pi Lite, (WPA / WPA2 encrypted, hostapd, dnsmasq). Everything was fine. I could power the board, connect to its wi-fi and ssh into it. Just a day ago I connected to the board with ssh, just to test that it was working and closed the connection immediately. So I know that it should be working and that all the configs are good. But now I keep on getting Connection Timed Out error, tested under Arch Linux and Mac (as the connecting clients). Under arch linux my card finds the wi-fi, finds its bssid and gets to sending an "ASSOCIATING" request which gets a Timeout response. It does not seem to be a hardware failure, because the wi-fi is still created and is visible. Config files also have not changed since the last time it worked. Any ideas?
  5. I recently bought an Orange Pi Lite and installed Armbian on it. Everything works fine except I can't write to USB drive. I'm not logged in as root. USB mounts automatically but other users can't seem to write to it. I searched this issue on the internet but could not figure out how to change permission as this is the first time I'm using a Linux machine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below is what I see when I open up USB properties. Thank you.
  6. So I'm pretty new at using serial ports in linux so not even sure if this is the right place. I'm playing around with MIDI using the serial ports on the Orange PiLite - it uses the baud rate of 31250 to achieve this you use setserial to get the base_baud (which it reports as 1500000) and you divide by the speed you want to get the divisor i.e. 1500000/31250 = 48 this becomes >setserial /dev/ttyS1 divisor 48 speed_cust So now when you use 38400 as your baud speed it actually becomes 31250.... ...in theory after some fiddling I found the divsor is actually 50 as 48 gives you weird results which would suggest that the base_baud is actually 1562500 not 1500000 So where is this initial base_baud set? I assuming in the kernel? I see this: sources/u-boot/v2016.11/include/configs/rk3399_common.h:16:#define CONFIG_BAUDRATE 1500000 But i really don't know if this is correct Edit: oops I put spaces in setserial
  7. Hi there, I would like to play hardware accelerated video with VLC on orangepi lite. Any idea how this can be done? When I tried it on RaspberryPi, it has option to select OpenmaxIL. Is this possible on Orangepi Lite, too? (I installed vlc but there is no OpenmaxIL option)
  8. Hello, my syntek is on Orangepi Lite successfully identified as 05e1:0408 Syntek Semiconductor Co., Ltd STK1160 Video Capture Device but I don't see it in /dev (usually it displays as /dev/video0 on Raspberry) Any idea how can I play video from Syntek in vlc? Many thanks

I'm trying to get audio out work on Orange Pi Lite using HDMI. aplay -l lists sndhdmi as card #1 and I have set it up as default in ~/.asoundrc. aplay -v shows it being used, but my AV receiver doesn't recognise the Pi nor output any sound. The same cable & receiver works fine with e.g. Macbook Pro. Should the HDMI audio output work in the legacy Jessie server image for OPi Lite? If yes, how could I debug more why it doesn't seem to work?
  10. Hi! I've coded a script that allows me to create a bootable disk of my favorite systems for different boards. it does a dd of the mbr (446 kb), then with fdisk and mkfs create the partitions, and at the end copy all the data for the root partition and others. This works for raspberry pi2 pi3, but for the orange pi it works only if the sd card is the same of the one used to backup the system, so i've investigated if the fstab or boot.cmd has some uuid of the disk but everywhere i found the device name instead of the uuid identifier. I don't understand why the orange pi lite don't boot with a different sd card if it have the same mbr and the same partitions. apparently everithing is the same of the original sd! The same method works for other boards!

If I plug the device to i2c-1 it works even after the upgrade. So only i2c-0 is broken after upgrade. A strange thing is: If I unplug the device from i2c-0 and run i2cdetect again it still shows UU at the address of the device although it is not connected anymore.

  13. Hello, i've got a problem with my orangepi lite. Here are a few posts about problems with connecting to wifi networks, but my device can't even find wifi networks (with iwlist wlan0 scan ). In my area are multiple access point active. The OS is armbian for OrangePi Lite Version: 5.20. iwconfig shows the chip with no errors. I have tried multiple settings in /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf after posts in this forum but nothing is working ...
  14. Hello Folks, sorry for popping up here with a technical problem first thing - but I have some trouble. I have a circuit where an attenuator is connected to PA19. Sadly, the port seems to have a pull up which stays active even when I use wiringPi to set the port to input - in fact, even if I short the pin to low via my Keithley ammeter, it still shows up as high.   15. I am experiencing serious problems with booting Armbian on OrangePi Lite. I flashed SD card with a fresh image of Armbian_5.20_Orangepilite_Debian_jessie_3.4.112_desktop.img At the first boot it always freezes right after this line: Started WPA supplicant. It stays there forever and I have no choice but power off the system. At each subsequent boot the system freezes very frequently but at different lines so again I need to reset it. However sometimes it succeeds at the second boot and I am able to login as root and then create new user and enter the desktop after that. I was very happy that it finally started and everything was working fine (including WiFi). Unfortunately after shutting down Armbian was not able to start again - after apparently successful boot when it was time to launch the Xwindow desktop the screen stayed completely black (at one of the tries there was even a mouse cursor at the middle but unable to move). I have gone through all this process 10+ times with flashing a fresh image and result is always the same. I'm aware that similar problems might be caused by crappy SD card or faulty power unit but I'm absolutely sure that it is not the case. I have tried this with 3 different SD cards Samsung 16 GB EVO HS-1. I have quality PSU giving stable 5.25 V at 2.5 A. Moreover I also tried at least 5 different images (based on Debian and Slackware) provided by loboris. All of them are working just fine and stable. They are able to boot at the first and every time and they are working perfectly (except that none of them supports WiFi drivers for OrangePI Lite). Obviously it is not a hardware issue either. In my opinion the problem is definitely in Armbian. Has anyone experienced such problems? Can you help please

Since I want to use a rotary encoder and not loose any steps I want to use a interrupt driven callback. There is an example as well but that does not work. I get: wiringPiISR: unable to open /sys/class/gpio/gpio25/value: No such file or directory I also tried several other libraries but non was working. Has anybody managed to get GPIO interrupt based callbacks working with python an an Oragnge Pi ?
  17. Like most people that have consumer ipv6 service, I have NATted ipv4 + global ipv6. I'm trying to get my v4 to be a static address and my v6 to be slaac with privext 2. However if I try to set this, I end up with the ipv6 configuration not enabled. As a workaround, I've set both v4 + v6 static, but would really like to get slaac working, as my global /64 has not changed to date but is not guaranteed to remain the same.   19. Hello everyone, I am kinda of new to the orange, I think it's fantastic, I worked with rasp for while and I think the orange just slashes it. Pampering the orange aside, I am trying to hook up an old webcam to the Orange pi lite and I running into some issue, my lsusb info is this: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 1e4e:0100 Cubeternet WebCam When I start motion, everything works fine, although when I go on the browser a gray screen comes up saying: unable to open video device I have changed the configuration file of /etc/motion/motion.conf and /etc/default/motion as instructed here: http://www.orangepi.org/Docs/Webcams.html Plus I have changed the with my ip and removed the semicolin netcam_url I changed so I can connect localhost:off I have tried everything on the net to make it work, it just doesn't, I have even changed multiple cameras that I do know for sure work, but nothing, I don't know what I am doing wrong. Update: The webcam seems to run with mplayer Now motion does not even stream anymore, I did not change anything or touched it FIY I think this is obvious I am running armbian Thanks

Hi All, I'll start with I know this is a dev image...... but I would like to see the 4.x kernels working on the Orange Pi Lite, so would like to be able to find out why it's not and help get that resolved in any way I can. I have 2 images, both were built using the compile.sh: Armbian_5.20_Orangepilite_Ubuntu_xenial_3.4.112.img Armbian_5.21_Orangepilite_Ubuntu_xenial_4.7.6.img I dd'd the 3.4.112 kernel image onto a Micro SD, put it in to my Orange Pi Lite and booted it up and confirmed it was working as expected, the green light flashed, the red one also flashed on first boot, then after the reboot I logged in, changed password etc. I then powered off the Orange Pi Lite, removed the Micro SD card and dd'd the 4.7.6 image, then repeated the process, however this time no green light on the Orange Pi Lite even after waiting over 10 min and pressing the power button a few times. To rule out hardware, I have in both cases used exactly the same hardware (Same Micro SD card, same power supply, same cable, same Orange Pi Lite). After this failed boot, i removed the SD card and mounted on a linux machine to try and figure out what happened, I looked in: $ cat microsd/var/log/dmesg (Nothing has been logged yet.) I looked in a few other files but don't know what I am looking for. I am not that familiar with the boot process of the H3 boards, but I'm guessing by the content of dmesg and the lack of a green light that the kernel never booted? I was also not able to connect via the OTG port. Any suggestions on what I should look at next? I also tried Armbian_5.17_Orangepilite_Ubuntu_xenial_4.7.2.raw a while back and had the same result, but gave up there at that time. Dave.
  21. There is problem with the internal wifi on Orange Pi Lite and Armbian 5.20 (5.16 too). I installed tshark (and tcpdump) and try to capture wifi packets in monitor mode. Without success. What's better. Aircrack-ng works flawlessly. I think, pcap library has a problem with switching the device to monitor mode. "dumpcap: The capture session could not be initiated on interface 'wlan0' (wlan0: SIOCGIWPRIV: Argument list too long)." 'iwpriv' command runs without error, but the private command list is really long. Buffer too small?? Dumpcap run with no errors on external USB wifi dongle (TP-Link TL-WN722N), so I think problem is in firmware of internal wlan chip (or armbian driver).

Hello every one, I have used crosstool-ng on my Jessie server (x86), and downloaded the linaro toolchain for my Ubuntu (x64 / 16.04) laptop, but ran into a wall both times: the cross-compilers won't (and now that I think about it, can't) link to the host libraries. Do I simply get all the sources for the libraries I want/need, and adjust their configure parameters to point to dedicated directory, and then build my target? Is there an easy way to manage the versions / dependencies to match Jessie (the version on my target OPi)? I am trying to compile Duktape with libreadline, if that matters. Thanks, Steve
  23. I need/want USB ethernet via OTG. I've wasted over 16 hours trying to get the g_ether module to work. A prominent poster told me that all recent Armbian images have this ability, just follow the directions... It's not. I'm using the stock Armbian image from this website, and I've updated it via "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade". Still no luck. The OTG connection currently shows up as a USB serial gadget, but I want a USB Ethernet gadget.

Hi, I have recently called apt-get upgrade (with my regular installation and also with a fresh one) and after trying to extract armbian-firmware (I think it was that name but I'm not totally sure) dpkg returns an error. All other packages are installed without error. Unfortunately the OrangePiLite then hangs on next boot. I guess this package is broken in the repositories? Has anybody else encountered this issue?

Orange Pi Lite - Armbian 5.14 The desktop shutdown (or shutdown -h now) shuts down the desktop, the system starts shutting down, then the desktop starts again, then disappears and the system shuts down. Its not a disastrous problem, but just annoying. I've traced it to the fact that 'nodm' is seeing the desktop stop, and then restarting it. Apparently either 'nodm' isn't getting the shutdown signal, or ignoring it, or getting it too late. Any guidance on what 'nodm' config, or some other config might help me to fix this? /K
